I belive Superbad is rated exactly as it should be. It's probably the best HS movie ever and easily one of the funniest movies of all time.

Re: Overrated/Underrated
I think there are a few John Hughes fans that would debate that statement...
Re: Overrated/Underrated
Well, I haven't seen all of Hughes' movies, but Superbad is pretty close to The Breakfast Club (the only one I've seen). They're completely different, but I wouldn't say one is easily better than the other.

I wouldn't either, just saying, they are out there. Personally, I think that Fast Times at Ridgemont High is tough to beat regarding high school movies, but Superbad is definitely up there and in the conversation.
Re: Overrated/Underrated
Oh ok. I haven't seen Fast Times yet, all I've seen is Phoebe Cate's topless scene

Re: Overrated/Underrated
in terms of high school movies, neither Superbad or Fast Times makes my top 5.. i'd take Dazed & Confused (the greatest high school movie ever made), the Stoned Age, Heathers, Rushmore, and Ferris Bueller's Day Off before either...

Overrated: The Graduate (good, but not that good IMO).
Underrated: The Downfall

Re: Overrated/Underrated
The best high school movies of all-time are not movies, but TV series. Therefore, I'd rank My-So Called Life, Freaks and Geeks and Degrassi Junior High/Degrassi High (same series, different titles) as my top three.

Re: Overrated/Underrated
Ugh, Dazed & Confused is an awful movie. But I guess being from Texas is some sort of bias?
And, Busc, why are naming TV shows as the best HS movies?

Re: Overrated/Underrated
Because TV shows are of the same medium as movies and usually TV shows do a better job of showing what high school is like.

TV shows did evolve from movies and many TV shows could be considered mini-movies or today's version of the serial as seen back in the 1930's.

Serves me right for expecting more from a Freo supporter.

What the hell is Brassed Off?
And, Busc, you really can't compare TV shows and movies? Movies have like 2 hours to set up a universe and do something with it. TV shows can have years to do this. It's not a fair comparison.

It was a fad that has since flamed out. I don't think people will be quoting it in ten years like Breakfast Club (next year will be 25). Just look at its "referenced" page on IMDB: http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0088847/movieconnections

I would very much go with that, though I didn't think Spider-Man 2 was loved by anyone until earlier this week (or was it last week). For Hellboy, can anyone really say that Ron Perlman doesn't play that character as well as anyone plays any other character in any particular film? If a role is perfect for someone, then its perfect and can't be surpassed by anyone else's perfect role.

Won't argue with that--but it's not necessarily a case for saying it's a great film...For Hellboy, can anyone really say that Ron Perlman doesn't play that character as well as anyone plays any other character in any particular film? Did you have to mention that. This Sunday hurt enough. At least you didn't accuse us of being a cancer in the AFL as one online poster did yesterday (probably, an Eagles fan)

Yes! I am not alone. Thanks UDM.

A British movie about a small coal mining town where nearly all the miners are in a Brass Orchestra. Stars Ewan McGregor, Pete Postlethwaite and was written and directed by the same guy who did The Boy In The Striped Pyjamas. It is a touching heartfelt story. I call it under rated because I think it is a quality movie (I am sure it won BAFTA's etc) yet it only rates 7.1 on IMDB. Probably because of all the music haters.
