Yeah Keyser, I overrated Crash earlier, but the more the merrier for that piece of shit.
I love Training Day and Man on Fire, which is definitely underrated.

Re: Overrated/Underrated
I didn't really like anything Denzel did from 2003-2006 except Inside Man and that wasn't because of Denzel. Out of Time, Man on Fire, and Deja Vu just seem like the same film except in a slightly different wrapper to me. Manchurian Candidate just sucked. I have a feeling Pelham is going to be same old, same old like the three I just mentioned...

Pelham 123 seemed like everyone was going through the motions. I'm glad that Unstoppable, the next Denzel/Tony Scott movie set on a train, got cancelled.

Overrated: LOTR: ROTK - a big anticlimax after the two movies which preceeded it.
Underrated: Pee Wee's Big Adventure - Burton's introduction to the big screen and a highly influential one at that.

I don't think Control is underrated. Most people who have seen it can see its brilliance and definitely appreciate it. Not well know enough, but certainly not underrated.

Re: Overrated/Underrated
I listed it as underrated since hardly anyone in the US knows of its existance (thanks to a very limited theatrical release by The Weinstein Company). While we are spoonfed crap like Across The Universe and High School Musical 3, a beautiful and tragic film like Control wallows in obscurity.

Kingpin is great...now. It was so terrible when it first came out, because literally everyone associated with it was has-beens. Now, everyone in it is pretty much back to form. You can look at it as classic, but in context of it's time, it was rated exactly where it should've been.

Just because it is largely unknown does not make it underrated, it just means it is an obscurity waiting to be appreciated. If a lot of people had seen it and not rated it that much, then it could be called underrated, but right now it is not.

Re: Overrated/Underrated
The Faculty was godawful. I remember seeing that after seeing El Mariachi, Desperado and From Dusk Till Dawn (you know, when Rodriguez could do no wrong) and couldn't believe how bad it was. That was a textbook example of why you should let Rodriguez write his own screenplays or at least have major input in them instead of letting flavor-of-the-month writers do them (in this case, it was Kevin Williamson).

Re: Overrated/Underrated
I thought The Faculty was a great send-up of crappy teen slasher movies which were all the craze back then. It's campy and fun. Plus, it's got a great cast, or so I think.

Ipki$$ - Totally agree on your underrated pick, but I just don't think The Departed was overrrated.

Re: Overrated/Underrated
Keyser, I love The Departed, but it's nowhere near as good as some of Scorsese's early work. I mean, a lot of people treat it like the end all be all of crime dramas, when it's actually just above average compared to films like Taxi Driver or Mean Streets...Don't get me wrong, it's a great movie all around, just not AS great as a lot of people consider it. It even won Best Picture for crying out loud.
Tranny, I don't even really have a good answer for you. Just by the time I saw it, I was SLIGHTLY underwhelmed.

There's no question it's not one of Scorcese's best films, but I still thought it was damn good
