Denominate Hairspray! And that final second completed the bracket for this period.

I don't get it. The godawful Hot Rod gets seconded but the entertaining Hairspray gets denominated. At least no one nominated Across The Universe.

Can't comment on Hot Rod, as I have never seen it. Hairspray made me want to tear my eyes out though, a feat only equalled in recent times by Mamma Mia. This incident also happened with Dirty Dancing. I think I have a thing against girly musicals.....

Someone did nominate Across the Universe, didn't they?
I do agree that Hot Rod is awful, however.

Yes, Donte did. I think he is in love with the director. He said so to me one time and asked me to keep it in the strictest of confidence. I couldn't hold out....[grin]

Across the Universe is an AMAZING...music video. It's a terrible fucking movie though. Haven't seen all of Hot Rod, but I do enjoy me some irreverent Andy Samberg every now and then even though I still don't understand how the ADHD kid who just says and does random shit for a laugh even if he doesn't get one made it onto such a prestigious showcase of today's comedic talent. And as for The Ten...I love Paul Rudd so I've been dying to see it ever since I first heard about it. I just saw it this past week, and I have to be completely honest...I'm not a RELIGIOUS person by any stretch of the imagination, and I can take pretty much everything for what it is especially when it comes to comedy, and even I was a tad more than slightly offended a few times, but as that seems to be the point of the movie I guess I have to say it did it's job admirably. Although, anytime I get to see Winona Rider rape a ventriloquist dummy is time well spent.

Irreverent Andy Samberg is funny when it's a 4 minute digital short -- like 'Dick in a Box' or 'Lazy Sunday' or 'Jizz in My Pants' -- but extended out to a feature length movie, it gets a little tiresome.

Hot rod is one of a short list of movies that my brother and I know that not too many people will like, but we think are absolutely hilarious. We don't care what people say, they are hilarious to us. Also on this list are Kung Pow! Enter the Fist and BASEketball.
Re: Best Films of The 2000's NOMINATIONS PAGE [Oct-Dec 2008 Nominations Open]
Uh, Geez...BASEketball is one of the funniest movies I've ever seen in my entire life. There was a period in my life where I could recite the first half hour or so by heart. My brother and I used to watch it over and over again...man I LOVE that effing movie!

I didn't say that we were the only ones who liked it. Just mean that the majority don't really consider these "quality" films. I completely agree with you, obviously.

I saw BASEketball at a drive in playing with There's Something About Mary years ago. BASEketball played first and we laughed our asses off at it. We were quoting the movie that night. Then Mary came on and after BASE it was not really that funny. I think I would have enjoyed it more if I had seen it alone but following BASEketball on a double bill is like hitting the stage after Led Zepelin.

Re: Best Films of The 2000's NOMINATIONS PAGE [Oct-Dec 2008 Nominations Open]
I denominate Southland Tales. One of the worst films of the decade.
And [Rec] isn't eligible since it has never received a US release (and probably never will since the director seems to have the worst luck with US distributors*).
I second Walk Hard.
I nominate Control, Youth Without Youth and The Mist.
*- The Nameless spent five years without a distributor before getting a 2004 DTV release, Darkness was shelved for two years before being released heavily edited in 2004, Fragile has never been released due to its distributor going bankrupt and [Rec] has yet to see a distributor.

Thank you Donte. I was very worried with the amount of decent movies in this period that such a foreign masterpiece would miss out. I knew I could rely on my northern hemisphere twin [GRIN].
