Players should be allowed to change their slates until the actual deadline?
Re: Super-contest of 2009// Blockbusters of 2009
You can add at your top 10, any movie that has the release or the re-release in 2009. BUT we'll consider just the money won in entirely 2009 and until February 28, 2010.
Re: Super-contest of 2009// Blockbusters of 2009
Awww, you mean I can't just start at $191,796,233? Damn. [Grin]
I'll have my Super Contest II list posted here shortly, then. Many thanks!

When did Brad Pitt turn into the Hunchback Of Notre Dame? And even more curiously, is that Orlando Bloom in the dress???

Re: Super-contest of 2009// Blockbusters of 2009
I thought this would be an interesting experiment. Here is my original Super Contest list I made using my estimates for each movie in december. (The one I did not have access to when I made my official list due to the power outage) I figure I would post it also and see if I did better the first time or the second independant draft.
Super Contest list made Dec 23rd. Top 10 Movies of 09 in order
Harry potter 300+
Transformers 2 300+
Ice Age 3 200-230
Night at the Museum2 200-230
Up 200+
Watchmen 150-175+
Star Trek 150-175+
Terminator Salvation 150+
New Moon 150+
Monsters vs Aliens 150+
G.I. Joe 120+
X-Men Origins Wolverine 100-140
Wolfman 100-140
Angels and Demons 100-140
Avatar 100-120

Re: Super-contest of 2009// Blockbusters of 2009
You think this year is going to be down that much Donte? Fuck, Paul Blart is rivaling making that list and Gran Torino would already be on it. Not in the top 10, but on it nonetheless.
Re: Super-contest of 2009// Blockbusters of 2009
Until Swedgin! will bless us with his Top 10 list I offer you Yahoo! Most Anticipated Movies of 2009 (click on link)
Donte77, your predictions look normal, BUT I think that we'll have some surprises this year too, both pleasant and unpleasant
Nobody has chosen these movies: 2012, Funny People, Hannah Montana The Movie, Jonas Brothers: The 3-D Concert Experience, Old Dogs, Planet 51, Shutter Island, Surrogates, The Lovely Bones, The Tooth Fairy or The Wolfman...
They all look in the range of 50-120 M, BUT I do believe that we'll have some surprises from here or others appearing from nowhere...
Also, a very few of us has chosen: New Moon, G.I. Joe, Alvin and the Chipmunks: The Squeakuel, Bruno, Where the Wild Things Are, Public Enemies, Land of the Lost, The Princess and The Frog, The Fantastic Mr. Fox, A Christmas Carol and Sherlock Holmes... movies that have some chances to enter the final Top 10 of 2009...
With Paul Blart already surpassing $100 M mark after Gran Torino did it. With very strong debuts of Taken, HE'S JUST NOT THAT INTO YOU and now Friday the 13th, with the possibility of Slumdog Millionaire to surpass 100 M after winning some Oscars, possibly even the Great One for Best Picture, I think that we'll have a very good year, maybe even better than the last one, which had just 3 movies above $300 M.

Re: Super-contest of 2009// Blockbusters of 2009
Geez, those were my minimum numbers for the movie. I was thinking that each movie would make that much minimum. I am thinking Transformers 2 and Potter will get 350-4 but my original estimate was just to rank. I know some will explode and make much more but I was playing the odds.
I hope GI Joe, Wolverine and Watchmen are good enough to hit 250-3 but I am not convinced yet.

numbersix_99 and geezer9687 have the same choices. So only at them we'll have a tie and the order will matter

Re: Super-contest of 2009// Blockbusters of 2009
Nope, no changes past the end date. That's the point of the game, who was most accurate at the beginning of the year. And yeah... Watchmen might not end up hitting the top 10, still might though, although it won't be higher than 9 or 10.
Re: Super-contest of 2009// Blockbusters of 2009
From 26 players only aquamann2001, BarcaRulz, becs and Lili haven't chosen Watchmen.
After first estimations, Watchmen will have between $55-62 M after opening weekend and $155-160 M in total.
Unfortunately I agree with geezer, Watchmen can be out of Top 10 in final... I saw it. And I can say that it was a very good movie, maybe too intelligent for average American moviegoer. That's why I don't think it will be a Top 10 blockbuster... we'll see...

Re: Super-contest of 2009// Blockbusters of 2009
Well, Watchmen doesn't have to get in the top 10 in order to win. It just has to not bomb. Here's hoping for a less then 60% 2nd weekend drop!

Re: Super-contest of 2009// Blockbusters of 2009
Very true, especially since the vast majority had it.
Re: Super-contest of 2009// Blockbusters of 2009
Wow! Watchmen won't even surpass $120 M, after a disastrous 2nd weekend...
Re: Super-contest of 2009// Blockbusters of 2009
Yup, looked like it could be called a "bomb" after all.

Re: Super-contest of 2009// Blockbusters of 2009
Wow, how many of us ate that hype and pegged it at a 150-200 M film. I myself had it at number 7 I think. It might not even make the top 15 or 20. Wow.
Re: Super-contest of 2009// Blockbusters of 2009
Of course not, considering that... wait for it...
Paul Blart: Mall Cop will outgross Watchmen.
And Taken, but I really wanted to say that.

Re: Super-contest of 2009// Blockbusters of 2009
Wow! NOBODY has been chosen "Fast & Furious"! It seems now a much better choice than Watchmen With $65 M estimated by Steve Mason in opening weekend, it is the best OW All-Time for April, with more than 30% that the producers expected!
That means min $130 M, BUT it can do $150-160 M. I don't know if it will be in final top 10 (I doubt it) because of the strong competition of this year, but it will surely surpass Watchmen...
Monsters vs. Aliens, with $35 M estimated in its second weekend, it will be a strong contender for final Top 10. It can do min $180 M, and even $200-205 M if it will have 3 more strong weekends... We'll see...

Re: Super-contest of 2009// Blockbusters of 2009
Yeah I think we all missed the F and F thing. Even the "experts" at Rotten Tomato and Mase had it pegged at 40 Mil OW and they were only off by 30 Mil. LOL
I guess with the economy tanking people want to see people drive fast and blow shit up.

Fast and Furious
Paul Blart
Taken . .. .
Man I am hoping the Summer and Winter are explosive. Even for films I don't necessarily want to be. Just so I have some films in the top ten.

Re: Super-contest of 2009// Blockbusters of 2009
Steve Mason estimates $86.8 M for Wolverine's OW and that it will finish at $156-$165M. It can miss Top 10 with these numbers!
Only 6 moguls don't have it: Alyson, Buscemi, Donte77, IPKI$$, johnErle and leestu.
It's going to be a very very interesting competition this year Every week starting now, we can have a blockbuster. So, I think that it will matter the 2nd week drop for every movie due to competition... What do you think?
I'll do the first update of the standings next month, when we'll see who hasn't anymore chances to win. I think that the players who don't have Watchmen OR/ AND Wolverine have more chances to win... if their choices don't bomb as well...

Wolverine better do better than F&F or it's a disgrace to movies.
