Interesting query. I didn't start watching Star Trek until TNG was on tv. I was too young to see the original until I watched it years later on syndication and it was just too cheesey for me. I didn't see Shatner until AFTER everybody had already done impersonations of Shatner for years so I was already ruined for it. I have seen almost all of the movies and I did enjoy most of them. I liked DS9 and hated Voyager. So I am not exactly an old school trekkie but I have been a fan for about 15 years now. I am really excited for it. I wasn't sure until I saw the newer trailers. It looks great.
We will always have the fanboys either thinking it is THE BEST EVER or THE WORST EVER, same as we did with Watchmen, Spider-Man, and soon to be Terminator Salvation, etc. (although I don't know anybody who thought spider-man was crap)
