Who belongs at the top of the list?
Re: New Idea: The Fantaverse Creates Our 100 favorite Movie Characters
I agree with you there, W. Everyone knows King Kong. Even if they haven't seen it. That's a rare feat.
Besides that, I think the characters we've come up with are a pretty diverse pool. I wouldn't put anywhere near as many Full Metal Jacket characters or superheroes myself, and there are some blatant omissions, but for the most part it's a good list as a whole.

As i suspected, Napoleon is still on the bottom. You could have ranked him first and he still would have been, Donte.
Re: New Idea: The Fantaverse Creates Our 100 favorite Movie Characters
I love Napoleon but this is the greatest cinematic characters ever. It was hard to even keep him in the top 20. If I had more time to debate this list would be different. I dropped RDJ in rank in Tropic Thunder simply because I haven't seen it yet.
Re: New Idea: The Fantaverse Creates Our 100 favorite Movie Characters
So I know I said I would let it go until 10 pm, but... It takes me at least an hour to put in all the data every time someone submits a list, and I've already had more than enough lists... so If you have been left out, my apologies, but I just took the additional time of actually putting the final list together, so I'd rather not change it now.
It was a very interesting process. Part of this process involved figuring out what to do in the case of ties. Well, I decided that since it doesn't make that much of a difference, I would just put whichever one I felt deserved to be higher that one spot ahead. I don't think anyone has too big of an issue with that. There were a lot of close calls, several being separated by one point.
However... there are a very clear top 2... And well.. those top two ended up... TIED!
Now I'm sure you can all guess what two characters I am referring to: Indiana Jones and Darth Vader.
If I used the same logic I did for the rest of the list, I would just give it to Vader and that would be the end of it. He topped my list and several others. But I figured since this is going to be the end all-be all master rank, the fantaverse should be allowed to vote for who comes out on top.
So I am going to put a poll up. Vote for who you want to be our greatest character of all time.
In the Meantime, here's the list numbered 100-3.

I voted Indiana Jones. I might get some crap for this but i hate darth vader. throughout the first trilogy he is this badass formidable opponent, then at the end its basically SPOILERS (doubt anyone here hasnt seen it yet, but just in case, i dont like to be a spoiler, i hate it when people dont put a spoiler warning, it has to be one of the biggest pet peeves of mine)
at the end he turns into whiny 'im sorry i was bad, it made me be bad'. ok i might be over exaggerating a bit, but i see it as a cop out, 'he's about to die so lets make him good again'.

He's an ape from an age before the age where f/x meant chocolate syrup instead of blood. Much better than most of the people on this list.

Actually, <edit> undeadmonkey <end edit>, he was never "good" during the original trilogy, which none of the background was done beforehand. He overcame the dark side and saved his "soul" by returning to the light side. During the three films, he goes from bad to good and its not really just all of a sudden. If he were only a bad guy, he'd have killed Luke when he first had the chance.

Re: New Idea: The Fantaverse Creates Our 100 favorite Movie Characters
Darth Vader represents every individual on the planet. We all have a dark side, a little evil, a yin to our yang. Now, granted, the lines between evil and good are much more defined and therefore easily visible in Star Wars. Someone great once said that evil inpart is defined by what side of the battlefield you are standing. Not the case in Star Wars.
Vader is the character you love to hate, until he redeems himself. Then he becomes the hero, cape and all. This was one of the best underlying twist in cinema, because until the end of the final chapter, we the audience did not realize that the story had been about Vader and his evolution within the force all along.
Indiana Jones is basically a comic book hero not based on a comic book. Professor and lectuerer by day, world travelling adveturer and saviour of all things dusty and/or buried by night. He's a great character who provided audiences with omigosh moments with all the stuntwork and some of the SFX, but the character is just not as strong as Vader. I don't know that any other character can or will ever have as big an impact on film as Darth Vader.

Geezer, I got with jackburton last night and he is currently without internet after moving. He would like to 1) vote for Vader, and 2) declare shenanigans for the character that landed at #87. He thinks he should be higher. His words not mine.

I have to disagree about Indiana Jones not being as strong a character...He might be a little less iconic than Lord Vader, not too much less, but he's definitely just as relatable for the most part. I mean, he's smart, funny, good-looking, brave, adventurous, kind of a jerk, afraid of snakes...Name one kid from the 80s who didn't want to be Indiana Jones. I sure as hell did. I still do to a certain extent. He's the epitome of a Man's Man in my opinion.

I have to vote for Vader. I love Indiana Jones but Vader is the first bad guy I idolized. And since I had him at 10 and Indy at 14 I have to stick with my guns.
Ash should still be higher and the McMannus Brothers in the lower 5 is crap. Some of you people are too nice and voting for ET and Wall-E instead of cool killers.

Donte,
I love cool killers. That's why I had Anton Chygurh rated as high as I did. The McMannus Brothers, in my opinion, couldn't even carry his cow killer.
I had Vader rated as #1 so I guess that beats whereever I had Indiana Jones rated.
I love cool killers. That's why I had Anton Chygurh rated as high as I did. The McMannus Brothers, in my opinion, couldn't even carry his cow killer.
I had Vader rated as #1 so I guess that beats whereever I had Indiana Jones rated.

I voted for Indy. The prequels kind of ruined any kind of respect I had for Vader as a character.

See JackO, that is where you made a mistake. The prequels do not count since they aren't even star wars movies. LOL I am not even sure if they actually exist.
Re: New Idea: The Fantaverse Creates Our 100 favorite Movie Characters
Yeah, the prequels don't count as there is only the actual character of "Darth Vader" in the last few minutes of episode 3. It's kinda like saying Anakin was a character in the original's although you don't actually see "Anakin" until Luke removes Vader's mask in Jedi and then a few minutes later as a spirit along with Obi Wan and Yoda.

Yeah but Anakin IS Darth Vader, you cant just overlook that. The same person is the same charcater, thats like saying Bruce Wayne and Batman are two different people. And cause Anakin is vader i couldn`t give him a high rating, though Vader is badass, anakin just sucks balls
Im happy with the most of the list, but i agree with Donte as with the ET comment

I guess we are waiting till Barca gets back to implement this. I'm really dissapointed I'll never get my chance to be Napoleon Dynamite though......

Yeah, don't worry Surfer -- we'll just make sure that the first 1,000 posts don't count so that we're all Napoleon Dynamite for weeks.

Damn it! Who voted for Indiana Jones to tie this up! I should have deleted the poll. Now its a tie. I think I'm going to leave the final deciding factor in the hands of Barca. It is his site afterall.
