Even MORE Date Changes!
Sorority Row has been moved up to Sept. 11 from Oct. 2. I don't understand this?
Pandorum has been pushed back a few weeks to Sept. 18 from Sept. 4. Probably won't change anything at the BO.
I Love You, Phillip Morris has finally been given a release date of Feb. 5, 2010. But it's being released by Freestyle, so who knows how wide it'll go.
And Extract will be going wide immediately, instead of limited then expanding.

Re: Even MORE Date Changes!
I think Sorority Row got moved up because Summit likely wanted to avoid releasing in the crowded horror market of October. I don't think they want it to face Shutter Island, Zombieland, Night Of The Demons, The Road, Saw VI or The Box.
And Pandorum's release date I believe may be because of September 4th being crowded and plus, Resident Evil: Extinction (same producers) opened at the same weekend that the new date is in two years earlier. Also, I feel that Pandorum will be a hit. The idea is pretty good for a sci-fi-oriented horror film and the advertising material is rather interesting. Plus, people will avoid the other horror film opening that weekend (Jennifer's Body).

The trailer for Extract got a great reaction from the crowd I saw Transformers with. I think its a good move for it to go wide right away.
Re: Even MORE Date Changes!
Actually, I'm almost positive that Jennifer's Body will beat Pandorum OW. But neither will beat Cloudy With A Chance of Meatballs or Tyler Perry in the 2nd weekend.

Re: Even MORE Date Changes!
Jennifer's Body is a horror/comedy. It could be a hit...if this were 1985. Now in 2009, few people care to watch such a combination (a good example being 2006's Slither, the film was criticially acclaimed but grossed just $8 million). Also, the film has too many issues that will set it up to fail (such as Fox dumping the remaining Fox Atomic titles, the fact that few people take Megan Fox seriously as an actress and that Diablo Cody's fifteen minutes are seemingly running out).
Meanwhile, Pandorum is not a horror comedy. Instead, it looks like an interesting mashup of films such as Alien and the first Saw. Also despite the fact that people hate Paul W.S. Anderson (who produced the film), his films still make money. Plus the ad campaign is pretty good so far (two trailers and three teaser posters that really hit the horror aspect across).
My opening weekend predictions:
Pandorum $9-12 million
Jennifer's Body $3-5 million

Re: Even MORE Date Changes!
just to add one more to the recent moves the boat that rocked has been pushed to sometime in november so says comingsoon. they moved it due to its lack of box office overseas also it switched distributer
And on your note guys I think Pandorum has what it takes altough it wont win the weekend it should do pretty good maybe 11-15 million opening

Re: Even MORE Date Changes!
Technically it didn't switch distributors. Universal is simply handing the film to its arthouse division, Focus (Universal did the same thing with Hot Fuzz, Atonement and quite a few other films).
Also, Focus plans to cut 20 minutes for the US release. This might be a good reason to download the film or import a Region 2 copy as that will be the only way to see the film the way Richard Curtis meant for it to be seen.

Re: Even MORE Date Changes!
New release date change: Armored moves to December 4th. I absolutely do not understand this date change. At the same time last year, Screen Gems had a hit with Lakeview Terrace. The biggest opener at the same time last year (of the new date) was Punisher: War Zone. So does Sony not want this film to do well? Or do they think that Bill Hader and Andy Samberg had more appeal than Matt Dillon and Laurence Fishburne?

Re: Even MORE Date Changes!
I was just thinking the same thing. What a piss-poor choice of release dates.
Oh well, Star Trek broke the "2nd Week of May" curse, maybe Armored can break out a little bit in a weekend well-known for being crappy.

I doubt it...Armored looks shitty. Like really shitty. I wouldn't be surprised if Matt Dillon's mom fakes a terminal illness to get out of having to see it.

Sometimes shitty makes money. Just look at Obsessed.

Re: Even MORE Date Changes!
Yeah, but I don't see where the draw for this is...If they're marketing it toward the male 17-25 audience as it would seem that's who would see a movie like this, why the fuck would they try to push Matt Dillon as the selling point and not Laurence Fishburne? No one wants to see Matt Dillon really anymore. He just got lucky with a good performance in an overall solid ensemble with Crash. Plus movies like this get eaten alive in December. This could have done really well in mid-september even January could have been a better release, I just don't see the ad campaigns doing it any favors.
At least Obsessed knew who it's audience was and had not one, but three popular stars.

Re: Even MORE Date Changes!
Armored to me looks like an ensemble piece. Dillon and Fishburne basically play equals while Jean Reno, Skeet Ulrich (who a while back had a small comeback with TV's Jericho), Columbus Short (that kid from Stomp The Yard who's got a few other projects coming out), Milo Ventimiglia (from Heroes) and Fred Ward in support. The film seems to ooze with testosterone and machismo and could bring in the action crowd and younger teens if promoted well and if Ninja Assassin flops (which I think that will).
Basically it's a smaller Expendables but it should satisfy the wait.

I guess I'm out of the loop as I don't know who the hell any of those guys you just mentioned bar Jean Reno (who I forgot) and Johnny Depp2 are other than in name.

Re: Even MORE Date Changes!
-Fred Ward was Remo Williams and many other tough badass type characters.
-Skeet Ulrich was the bad guy from Scream and appeared in some movies in the 1990's. He was also on the short-lived but cult series Jericho.
-Columbus Short isn't very well known but he was in Stomp The Yard and seems to be developing as an actor to watch for (he's also has Whiteout and a few other films coming out).

Never seen heroes...He was in Pathology also, right? I'm just not as into pop culture as i used to be i guess. Although my mother's People magazine subscription helps me stay up on most of the celebrity gossip so...

Yeah, still don't know him. Was Stomp the Yard really big enough to get the lead noticed enough for bigger projects? Wow.
