Some Big Date Changes Empty Some Big Date Changes

Post by J.I. Wed Apr 15, 2009 2:31 am

First, Star Trek will now be released on May 7th at 7PM. http://www.comingsoon.net/news/startreknews.php?id=54437

I guess this is to help word of mouth for the opening weekend, but after Iron Man made nothing the day before I don't see why this was done.

Second, the MOST OBVIOUS excuse for "news" since Clay Aiken admitted he was gay. Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince has been moved up two days to Wednesday July 15th. Dang it, this was going to be the biggest opening weekend of the year with around $115 million, and now that is completely ruined. I see no way except for Avatar for any movie this year to have over a $100 million opening (and that Avatar thing is just complete hope and early outrageous guessing.) http://www.comingsoon.net/news/movienews.php?id=54475

There isn't a possibility of T2 doing it? The first one did, I think...

i imagine Terminator 2 has a very slim chance of a $100M+ opening weekend in 2009

It comes out on a Thursday, and Indiana Jones barely managed $100 million opening weekend, even though it rose considerably from Thursday to Friday and Friday to Saturday and I can't see T4 doing that.

When referring to 2009, T2 means Transformers 2. I'm just too lazy to write it while doing other stuff like I was...

Yeah I think T2 will always be Terminator 2 until they make a Tootsie 2. Smile

I really don't think these are big date changes. They are big movies, but moving a movie back two days isn't really big news.

And T2 is always Terminator 2.

I see Transformers 2, Terminator Salvation and Harry Potter all doing 100m OW, Transformers being the biggest of the lot.

But he means over the 3 day, not the 5 day. That is his point.

I know, and I think they can all do that over the 3 day weekend. Iron Man did it last year and leading up to it had no prior hype from being a franchise.

Tank Girl should have remained a comic only. A truly horrendous movie.

Avatar probably won't open better than $40 million.

I can see why they pushed back Star Trek. The fanboy effect. Which is too bad. The 3 day probably won't get past 40M now.

It will still get past $40 million 3-day, but Iron Man's move actually stopped it from hitting $100 million opening weekend.
