Precious Trailer
Looks very good IMHO. The only thing I worry about is Lionsgate releasing, however they did handle Fahrenheit 9/11 on a platform release and that got 100M.

I dunno, looks kinda crappy to me. If I have to watch one more "I'm black and I overcame the odds" flick I'll be sick, what about poor abused white, indian, asian, latino, etc... kids.

Re: Precious Trailer
I remember one time there was this story about Egyptian immigrint kids going to college. They marked on the application that they were "African American" but they wouldn't honor that because of the color of their skin. They couldn't get any of the financial aid, scholarships, and etc that black kids get. Stuff like that irks me.
I don't know why that came in my mind, but it did...

Sleepers(1996) is defintely one for white kids. Or you can choose Smart People or The Informers
Then there is Slumdog Millionaire for Indian kids.
City of God and The Motorcycle Diariesfor Latino kids.
The Counterfeiters and Schindler's List for Jewish kids.
My Left Foot for um "special" kids
I'm sure there are some for Asian kids too.

Re: Precious Trailer
Yeah, but when's the last time anyone has seen a poor Asian kid?
It's like seeing a whole family of Native Americans in one place at one time, it just doesn't happen. *Chris Rock reference*

The best part of that is that the people who wrote that form and made that ruling probably don't even realize that Egypt is in Africa. And yet they make rules at a college. To make a movie quote for that.
Magneto: "Shoot a bolt of lightning at a giant copper conductor? I thought you people lived at a school."

Well I bet there are, just not in America. LOL The poor kids can't afford to get here because they are making our iPods and Nikes.
Re: Precious Trailer
Back on topic, I am reading the book now actually. It is very good and an interesting voice that is a huge paradigm shift from my world. How different can you get reading about a 15 year old illiterate black girl from the projects???
The problem with a lot of modern books is that a huge portion of the genres I like are written by middle aged white people. I like to read other works to get different perspectives. I am currently reading this book and I just picked up The Gospel According to Jesus Christ by Jose Saramago.
I also have a sci-fi novel written by a middle aged black woman. How unique is she???

I thought it actually looked pretty good. The fact that Oprah Winfrey is producing may stop me though...

Re: Precious Trailer
I guess i'll be the first to say it, I think it looks horrible and depressing. There's nothing entertaining to me about watching someone get abused or trying to live life obese. I know it's hard to lose weight, i've troubled with it myself, but you would think though that once you hit a certain weight you would do anything to get healthy. You say, well maybe the movie will teach you something. Maybe, but i kinda doubt it.
to answer your question geez, i know some pervy guys that would do anything that walks. I'm sure that there are those kinds all over the world.

Not all Oprah Winfrey projects suck. The Color Purple and Beloved were both good.

Re: Precious Trailer
Beloved was one of the worst movies I have ever seen, it marred my opinion of Thandie Newton as an actress forever (not that any of her subsequent projects have really been any more impressive), I'll never be able to objectively watch her perform again. The story itself could have been really great and haunting, but the movie was so badly done I was just left feeling my time was wasted.Buscemi wrote:mfrendo wrote:I thought it actually looked pretty good.
