Well, I can see why it was delayed after watching it last night. It needs a lot of work

What I saw last night, I'd give a 6/10, but I can't say I saw the finished product. On the other hand, it's the best acting Clive Owen has done since Croupier

Does this mean that Nine will also see a release date change? Or will it simply become a limited release on November 25th before expanding in December?

To be honest after the 2 poor reviews of The Road, I'm thinking of dropping it completely from my slates

I think Nine should've been an expansion release from the start, it just doesn't seem smart to open this wide and watch it fail versus family comedies and New Moon.

And I guess Miramax finally blinked in the contest of which thriller would move its date: The Road or Law Abiding Citizen.

I'm still waiting to see who moves up to October 9th...

The Weinstein Company is releasing The Road, not Miramax.

Meanwhile, I expect Amelia to move up to October 9th.

New Release Dates:

Paranormal Activity 9/25/2009 (another film that Paramount is dumping as the film will only be released in Austin)
Up In The Air 11/13/2009 (from 12/4/2009)
The Lovely Bones 12/11/2009 limited, 1/15/2010 wide (from 12/11/2009 wide)

And next week's theatre estimates:
Cloudy With A Chance Of Meatballs 3,000
Jennifer's Body 2,500
The Informant! 2,400
Love Happens 1,800

Is it me or does the first and last seem low, while the middle two seem high?

Love Happens seems low, the others seem right, maybe high on the Informant but I've seen quite a few ads for it. You only think Jennifer's Body is high because you expect it to crash and burn.

Seriously, there is no buzz on Jennifer's Body except on maybe a few Internet forums (and that buzz is often unrealiable). Also, I haven't seen any ads on TV or the Internet for it. I figured that Fox would lessen the burden and open it in just 1,500 theatres with no screenings to critics.

Cloudy With A Chance Of Meatballs seems to me like a 3,500-3,750 theatre release. I think I remember Open Season opening in that many theatres and that was of less interest that this film.

I too have seen lots of commercials for Informant. And you know what else? Surrogates. Virtually none on Fame, and nothing at all for Jennifer's Body.

I've seen a few for Love Happens, and even a few for Pandorum. Even Whip It is getting TV spots now.

Nothing yet for Serious Man, Zombieland or Invention of Lying... on TV, anyway.

I found that a theatre in St. Charles is doing a midnight advance screening of Zombieland on October 1st. Before the show: a triple feature of 28 Days Later, Shaun Of The Dead and the Dawn Of The Dead remake.

On the advertising for Jennifer's Body:

The buzz is where it needs to be. The audience that is supposed to see it will. They are pushing the electro-emo-pop soundtrack (along with tons of other movie themed merch) extra hard at Hot Topic. We'll see, but I have no doubt this movie will make what it needs to.

I'd have loved it if they had done an original Dawn of the Dead instead, or Night Of The Living Dead. But having 28 Days Later and Shaun in front of it is a smart move.

You guys have to remember who these movies are going for. You probably haven't seen promos for Jennifer's Body or Fame because you probably don't watch MTV, Vh1, Spike, Fox (during reality shows mostly), etc.

They'll get a huge push from the VMAs on Sunday.

I'm thinking JB is a lock for 3rd place OW, I'm seeing loads of ads for it everywhere. More than anything else.

Jennifer's Body is a one-quadrant film and that quadrant is often unrealiable. Otherwise, the movie mostly has disinterest from people (most of the people that I go to college with think that it looks awful and buzz from other places is almost non-existant). Considering that I live in an area where horror does well (even the lesser horror films get decent runs), this is not good for the box office chances.

Sure that they will promote it on Saturday Night Live, but does anyone even watch Saturday Night Live when Tina Fey isn't on it?

I think Jennifer's Body is the film I'm most excited for... not to see it, but for it to be released so we will finally see exactly what it does.
