Song Shuffle Game - Page 7 Empty Re: Song Shuffle Game

Post by leestu Thu Mar 05, 2009 9:05 am

Over the weekend I tripled the amount of songs on my player so hopefully some better mixes will arise.

FAKER - Hurricane
HAPPY MONDAYS - 24 Hour Party People
THE VERVE PIPE - The Freshmen
DEAD KENNEDIES - Too Drunk Too Fuck
WHITE STRIPES - Icky Thump
VIOLENT FEMMES - Country Death Song
DAVID BOWIE - The Man Who Sold The World
DR DRE - Bitches Ain't Shit
SIMON & GARFUNKEL - The Boxer
AT THE DRIVE-IN - Invalid Litter Dept

What a great way to start and end this shuffle. The 2 highlights of this list would be FAKER and AT THE DRIVE-IN (and my favourite song of each to boot). I think this shuffle effectively showcases my eclectic taste. A mix of genres. About the only genre I don't like at least a little bit of is probably boy bands, and I haven't really had any exposure to death metal/death core (to keep up with the current topic).

Kaki King - Doing the Wrong Thing
Dire Straits - Six Blade Knife
Megadeth - Foreclosure of a Dream
Blind Melon - Change
The Mars Volta - Take the Veil Cerpin Taxt (whatever the hell that means LOL)
U.P.O. - Dust
Darwin's Waiting Room - Realize
Aerosmith - Draw the Line
Rob Zombie - Superbeast
Rammstein - Laichzeit (whatever the hell that means again)

interesting. 3 languages in that shuffle. English, German, and Voltese. LOL I love listening to The Mars Volta but what the fuck are they talking about. Does anybody know. Even when they are in english the lyrics make no sense.. Sample lyric from that song.

A mass of gallon sloth
As flys have walls for feet
A rapturous verbatim-someone said but who is to know
And when you find the fringe
The one last hit that spent you
You'll find the ossuary spilling by the day

To quote John Malcovich from Burn After Reading.

Couldn't help you Donte...though I think Mars Volta are okay, I'm not a fan. Saw them open for system of a down a few years back, and they were kinda...well...boring. We lest during their slot to stand outside.

The Breeders - Fortunately Gone
Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds - There is a Kingdom
The Clash - Police on my Back (live)
The Replacements - Somethin' To Du
Rebel Meets Rebel - Cowboys Do More Dope
Guns N' Roses - Nightrain
Flogging Molly - Between a Man and a Woman
Rancid - As Wicked
Dropkick Murphys - The Fighting 69th
Paul Westerberg - Century

BJORK - It's Oh So Quiet
THE POGUES - Gentleman Soldier
BECK - Banjo Story (Instrumental)
AT THE DRIVE-IN - Quarintined
AT THE DRIVE-IN - Cosmonaut
AT THE DRIVE-IN - Metronome Arthritis
BUTTERFINGER - Get Up Outta The Dirt
BILLY BRAGG - Walk Away Renee
BILLY BRAGG - The Milkman Of Human Kindness
BUTTHOLE SURFERS - Pepper

3 AT THE DRIVE-IN songs in a row!!! I probably have between 10-20 of their songs out of a total of ~1000 songs, which makes about 1-2%, not 30% which 3/10 would indicate. So that is bucking the odds.

Yeah it does look like his shuffle is only shuffling A and B doesn't it. LOL

I have noticed that the shuffle on my iPod is more limited than the shuffle on my iTunes even though the songs are identical. I get a lot more repeat bands on the pod.

Never 3 in a row though.

FriendO I do remember reading your story and thought I had replied to you about it. I will search through my google mail and see if I did or not.

Tranny you never fail to have 1 or 2 bands that I have never heard of. The only problem is that I haven't liked many of them. LOL Priestess wasn't bad but that Arsonist band was blech. Reminds me of the stuff I listened to when I was young and stupid. Smile

I don't like the way my shuffle works. It seems to play a bunch of songs from sections instead of the whole thing, BUT if it was broke it would have been all At The drive In. There is more As and Bs because I am still building up my playlist every day so and you gotta start somewhere so why not start at A. (after all the must have's of course).

Anyway, broken or not here is what came up next.

THE HERD - The King Is Dead
BEN FOLDS FIVE - You Don't Know Me
MISFITS - Halloween
BLACK FLAG - Louie Louie
BUSH - Superman
VAMPIRE WEEKEND - Cape Cod Kwassa Kwassa
BLACK FLAG - Wasted
BLONDIE - Denis
BUTTERFINGERS - Jesus I Was Evil
PLAIN WHITE T's - Hey There Delilah

Only 6 B's that time but no A's.

Song Shuffle Game - Page 7 Empty Re: Song Shuffle Game

Post by Donte77 Mon Mar 09, 2009 9:28 pm

The cool thing about music is that no matter what genre or style of music is playing, someone, somewhere, thinks it is fucking great and someone else thinks it is shite. When I was a teenager and into death metal (cannibal corpse, morbid angel, deicide, slayer) I could not stand a lot of other music, including stuff I love now. If I had heard Wilco or The Mars Volta when I was in high school I would have said it was terrible. Now I realize that my musical tastes were just a reflection of all the bad attitude and hate that I felt being a fucing weirdo. Now I embrace my weirdo-ness and so I love stuff that is odd.
I still like heavy music but when it is that growly metal stuff (like that Arsonists stuff you named) I laugh at the guy singing now. It doesn't even seem necessary but I know that it was for me at that age so I understand.

On to my mix for the day.

Wilco - You Are My Face
David Sanborn - Daydreaming
The Doors - Riders on the Storm
Gary Moore - Jumpin at Shadows
Creedence Clearwater Revival - Hey Tonight
Korn - Play Me
The Cranberries - Ridiculous Thoughts
Soundgarden - The Day I Tried to Live
Counting Crows - Catapult
Eric Clapton - Traveling Riverside Blues

Couple of blues songs in that mix. Not bad but I am in a heavier mood today.

A friend and I went to see Slayer in 2002 when they came to Indiana. We went for the nostalgia since he was one of my headbanging death metal friends in high school (as oppossed to the other half of my friends who went grunge). We had a blast, especially watching the mullets. I like your little rap oreo filling in the middle of the rock, punk and metal mix. LOL

Slayer are great live. They play nonstop from start to finish and crawl off the encore-less stage exhausted. A friend of mine used to run the coffee shop in one of our bigger hotels in the city. Slayer were staying at the hotel and she knew exactly who they were because she's a big metal head. Tom Araya came down in the morning and in a very shy and quiet voice asked for that most metal of morning drinks...
