Man that was a tough vote for me. I finally went with Memento over The Departed and Memento moves into the lead since they were tied for first.

went with Sin City tough choice though because The Departed and Kill Bill Vol 1 are in my top 10 of all time. And a number of the other films on the board in my top 100.

I'm kinda surprised you are the only one to vote TDK to be honest, Geez. After all the praise it has received on here over the last year I expected at least a decent percentage of votes for it, but I guess many of us were just commenting on it being the best of the year, without it ever really challenging for best of the decade, never mind the best ever!!

I guess. I'm actually surprised you didn't vote for it Surfer. I am just as surprised it hasn't gotten more votes.
I can't wait for 94 and especially 99.

Re: Best Films of The 2000's
there were a handful of great movies this last year--but, overall, i don't think 2008 will be remembered as a particularly noteworthy year for film (except for TDK's box office receipts)..
to be honest, part of what made TDK so amazing was the dearth of quality movies otherwise.. this hit me especially hard when making my "top 10 of 2008" list.. lotsa good ones, not so many GREAT ones

Re: Best Films of The 2000's
I think there were a few great movies, at least in my opinion. Basically my top 5 I would consider great, and all made my top 100.
TDK and The Wrestler were the obvious standouts, but I also thought Tropic Thunder was one of the best comedies in recent years, Benjamin Button was outstanding and I personally loved Cloverfield (although it definitely loses something when converted to the small screen). Plus there are still so many I haven't seen.

Gotta agree with you there NSpan. I mean, my top 5 films of the year included Benjamin Button, Wall-E, In Bruges and The Orphanage, yet I doubt the majority of those will ever touch my top 20 of all time. They were all very good, but not THAT good. And Geez, i voted for Memento, that was one of the most impressive movies I have ever seen and upon each viewing it seems to get better. I also watched Requiem the other night and that too was very, very impressive.

Re: Best Films of The 2000's
I think 2008 had it harder because 2007 was such a great year. Some of the best movies not only of the decade but in a very long time came out.
Into the Wild
There Will Be Blood
Juno
No Country for Old Men
Before the Devil Knows Your Dead
I am Legend
Knocked Up
300
Sweeney Todd
Tyler Perry's best movie to date (Why Did I get Married)
Atonement
The Lives of Others
All of these are really good movies
2008 had a very tough act to follow and it didn't really come out with anything super good other than TDK. It had some really good movies but lacks on the great side.

Re: Best Films of The 2000's
I've seen Memento twice, and I'd put it in my top 150. Its one of those films that I think you appreciate more for its striking innovation than for its actual story, which is why I can't see it as great as some others do. I still loved it, but like I said, it sits somewhere just outside my top 100.
I'd also agree with you on that Pack, especially since you didn't even include the best movie released in 2007 in your list. Actually, I'd agree with you, in spite of most of the films you mentioned. I guess that just proves how strong 07 was, it had something for everyone.

It'll be The Departed. Where as my favourite would be Sunshine, one of Boyle's movies which should have won Oscars before Slumdog.

Tropic Thunder: a good movie, but a bad ending. The ending was fake and unrealistic compared to the rest of the movie, a comedic impression of the turmoil faced from making Apocalypse Now or Heaven's Gate.

i wouldn't word it this way--but i have criticized Tropic Thunder for ultimately becoming a part of which it set out to mock.. (but that's mostly in regards to typical Hollywood excesses)Buscemi wrote:Tropic Thunder: a good movie, but a bad ending. Re: Best Films of The 2000's
Gotta say I was largely let down by Tropic Thunder. I loved the trailer, and thought some of the scenes were good, but most of it just wasn't that funny for me. And the Tom Cruise thing which everyone found so hilarious just came across a little desperate to me, which was pretty much in line with the entire movie for me. It just tried to hard to be that satirical take on Hollywood and failed. Thats just me though, I know a lot of you really loved it.

Re: Best Films of The 2000's
I liked TT much more than I thought I would. I think the hilarious premise had a lot to do with it. Cruise's role was funny but not brilliant. RDJ on the other hand...
