Rachel Getting Married - 9.5/10 Freaking great movie. Very emotional.
I was really and truly expecting the Anne Hathaway performance to be medicore/bad considering she has a very well worn in type cast, something like Lindsay Lohan "breaking out" of Disney flicks to do I Know Who Killed Me... though Anne at least has actual talent. Well boy did she prove it, the award noms she got were totally deserved. She was completely believable as a broken person, stuggling with deep seated resentment from her family as well as internally from herself, and all of it in collision with her sister's wedding.
The movie has this great gradual unravelling quality to it, everything seems normal at the start, I was prepared for and expecting all this conflict right off, but they all act like you expect, happyish family, everyone civil. Little "frays" pop out here and there (response to her mom not being there, dad not letting her drive, etc..) that let you see things aren't completely as together as they seem, but as the story becomes clearer and clearer there is an effect of spiralling out of control.

I saw
Dog Day Afternoon - 8/10. It was hilarious and at the same time pretty disturbing and sad.
The Life of David Gale - 7/10. Very exciting thriller. A lot of it was just editing gimmicks though, but it was nice to Kevin Spacey back in his American Beauty quality of performance. Kate Winslet and Laura Linney are also very good.

Watched Heavy Metal Parking Lot last night. Horribly disappointed. 16 minutes long. Really? 1.5/5
Rewatched Ichi the Killer and the got through most of JFK Director's Cut before going to sleep. I had to get some goodness into my head after watching burnt out redneck drunks yell "Judas Priest!" for 15 minutes.
On a side note, although I loved Ichi, I still don't entirely understand the ending 2 minutes. If anybody can help I would appreciate it. I don't want to say what I don't understand since it is a spoiler alert for the entire ending.

I liked the movie but I was underwhelmed at the ending. And I thought the beginning was slow. The middle hour was eff'in brilliant however. So I liked the movie but didn't love it. Wish I did because it was such a good idea and the acting was phenomenal.

Vertigo- 7/10
I just thought it was too weird. I understand the technical brilliance but the story itself was just off for me. Like I didn't understand where Jimmy Stewart's love for this woman came from. Its like he had no real reason to fall for her. It seemed to just move to fast without much explanation. I also didn't like him playing the crazy guy but that's just me. I just don't think it should be up there with his other great classics, even if a lot of people call it his best. The story was just too weird for my liking. Not even close to as good as Rear Window.

they were doing a free screening of Wrath of Khan at the Alamo Drafthouse near my house last night.. i was totally set on going, but kate (the gf--who has never even seen the movie) got sick and we ended up staying at home..
from what i hear, the film-print of Khan burned up 10 minutes into the movie.. or so it seemed.. moments later, the writers of the new movie--along with Leonard fucking Nimoy--got on stage for a Q&A, and then proceeded to show JJ Abram's new film in its entirety.. it was the WORLD PREMIERE
needless to say, i just savagely beat kate nearly to death with a bag of oranges...

Now that is a story that you can't find anywhere else on the web. I'm sorry for your loss.

Theres a new wrath of khan? or new star trek? either way, that would definitely warrant a beating...

Milk 7.5/10
Good but not nearly as good as most people say it is. Sean Penn was good but didnt deserve his oscar. Told a good story and a good message but it just wasnt as good as i heard it was.

Sunshine Cleaning-7/10 Was too contrived to be great, but the emotion and the excellent acting of Amy Adams and Emily Blunt along with some well placed humor helped elevate it from slightly entertaining to a solid drama. Although some weird scenes with a CB and a couple of misplaced conflicts held it back quite a bit also.
Zack and Miri Make a Porno- 8/10 Wow. I only liked Kevin Smith movies because I could get a lot of the regional references, but now...This was not what I expected. I mean, it would have been very Kevin Smith to take this to the offensive extreme, and while this is definitely raunchy, it shows a lot of maturity as a filmmaker and a storyteller on his part. The plot's whatever, but it's really Smith's dialogue and the chemistry of the cast that really helps this one be so damn entertaining. Without a doubt his best effort to date.

A Prarie Home Companion - 8/10
All around wonderful movie, short on plot but long on great performances. From Meryl Streep and Lily Tomlin, to Lindsey Lohan singing scene, to Woody Harrelson and John C. Reilly's Bad Jokes song, everything was pretty good. A little weird with the Angel of Death being there though, and a letdown ending. Kevin Kline was pretty funny too...

Even though I really want to see Star Trek, I still hate J.J. Abrams. If I would have been there, I would have booed at Abrams and yell how much his writing sucks.
In fact, I still kind of think that they should have waited on the reboot and done a Deep Space Nine movie first.

I will gladly hold her in place while you pummel her with a bag of fruit. I may even slip a pinapple into the bag since I think scarring will be necessary to teach her a lesson about being whiny while she is sick.

Scorsese is overrated
Re: what are you watching RIGHT NOW.... or somewheres about close to "right now"
True enough. But so is Spielberg. But, they're still the two best directors overall, either way you look at it. But because Buscemi likes him, Scorcese's a hack and should have stopped making movies after Taxi Driver.

Finally got to see Speed Racer last night. I fell asleep about 2/3 in, mostly due to fatigue at 4a.m. but slightly due to the over-stimulation. It's definitely visually interesting. Very true to the TV series in every aspect, but it's definitely not for anyone who is prone to seizures or epileptic fits. The whole time I couldn't help but thinking how much better it would have been if i was stoned and watching it on the big screen. I'll have to finish the ending soon. 6.5/10 so far.

Speed Racer is only watchable in IMAX, although I suppose that if anyone watches it while on acid or LSD, they're likely to rip their face off.
