can anybody on the board remember where/when we were talking about Synecdoche, New York? Our search feature doesn't seem to work all too great for me...

I don't remember where or when we discussed it...but the consensus was that it was a pretty horrible piece of shit.

Yeah, I heard it was confusing and pretty retarded overall.

Re: what are you watching RIGHT NOW.... or somewheres about close to "right now" PART 2
thanks guys. Glad I could help
Anyway watched 2 movies this morning
The Rocker 7/10
Rainn Willson carries this. Its pretty funny and is worth a watch for Willson and the funny as hell hair-metal sequences.
Kung Fu Panda 7.5/10
I am surprised i enjoyed this. But it was a light, interesting story. It was funny and touching.
Going to see The Hangover this afternoon [ finally].

Re: what are you watching RIGHT NOW.... or somewheres about close to "right now" PART 2
Watched Defiance and I really liked it. 8.5/10
What makes a great drama stand a part from a decent drama is the story and how it is presented. So where Ben Button failed, Defiance stood tall in it's glory. Part of me wished that Daniel Craig was not in it. Nothing against Craig or his acting but it almost seemed like he was put in the role just to attach a HUGE name. It would have been just as good with another lesser known. Look it's Bond, James Bond was a slight distraction to the film. Best film I've seen this year thus far. Not saying too much as I haven't seen too many.
Introduced myself to Freaks and Geeks and Flight of the Conchords over the past couple of weeks. Freaks, I guess, was too much too soon. Audiences today would eat it up and beg for more. Makes me understand all of the appreciation Franco gets. I'll get on the train here. Could be the next Johnny Depp.
Flight of the Conchords is some of the most hilarious shit I have watched in a long time. This show invokes a sense of hilarity reminiscent of the early early early years of South Park. I know there are SP haters here, but, that is probably one of the biggest compliments I can give Conchords. I guess the chemistry between these two guys reminds me of Matt and Trey.

Freaks and Geeks is one of my all-time favorite shows. My top all time shows are (in no particular order):
Battlestar Galactica (the newer version)
Freaks and Geeks (Undeclared is really good too)
Firefly (though this is interchangeable with Buffy/Angel/Dollhouse or anything else Joss Whedon has done)
The Shield
Oz

Re: what are you watching RIGHT NOW.... or somewheres about close to "right now" PART 2
Attempted a 'Critters' marathon yesterday but after watching the first one (6/10) and struggling through the second one (4/10), I decided to re-evaluate my life and my priorities. Conclusion? Move on to better things. I've seen the third one before (3/10) so the bar of expectations wasn't very high.
Drag Me To Hell: 8/10 Truly a horror film and not a thriller like so many of the horror films today are. There's an argument to make that the film is unecessarily cruel to Alison Lohman, but she did fail to observe with one indisputable truth of the universe: don't f@#k around with old gypsy women.

Horsemen (4/10):
Started out well, everything after that went downhill. Acting was mostly horrible, the script was woeful, especially with the ending climax, and after trying to set up a 'smart' plot, it all took a shit turn (people who have seen it will know what i am referring to).
Anyway, not worth it. The only good thing about this movie is the opening 20-ish minutes which is why i gave it a 4/10 and not less.

Saw two great DVD's this weekend.
Fanboys 5/5
Must see for Star Wars fans, especially one's who went deeper than the films. This movie was made for us. And it doesn't take into account any of the new ones, thank God (since it's set pre-release of ep 1). Possibly the best Star Wars related release since 1998.
Sicko 5/5
It took me forever to sit down and watch this one, but it was well worth it. Moore takes a look at the health care system, along with others around the world. The comparison is not in our favor (as one in America). The most shocking part is how much better so many other countries have it.

Taken 9/10
Finally saw it. It was awesome. Short, Brutal and Kick-Ass. Liam Nesson was a monster. One of my faves for the year so far.

Hellboy II: The Golden Army - 8/10
Wow, I didn't expect to like this that much. I finally caught it on Cinemax and I couldn't really find anything wrong with it. It's leaps and bounds better than the first which dragged in places. This was quick, had a good story, great performances from Perlman and the Prince/Princess. Only weak part would be Selma Blair's lack of acting ability.
The Assassination of Jesse James By The Coward Robert Ford - 10/10
Damn. This was long, but it was terrific. I especially loved the drawn out scene of Jesse's murder. Casey Affleck should get more recogniziton than he does, this and Gone Baby Gone are just amazing performances from him. Brad Pitt was good too, but I think Affleck was the star here.

I just watched Executive Decision. The Steven Seagal fans seem to hate it because he's barely in it, but you really can't go wrong with an action film headed by Kurt Russell. To me, he is the ultimate action badass.
Also you had Halle Berry, John Leguizamo, Oliver Platt, Joe Morton (Dyson from Terminator 2) and David Suchet (better known as the guy who plays Poirot on TV) playing the main villain. It's entertaining and well-casted. It would make a good double feature with Speed (oddly enough, both films feature Joe Morton in supporting roles).

Don't regard Michael Moore as the truth. The Health system of France and England are full of problems themselves, especially waiting lists and queues. That said, I still prefer them to the US's private healthcare system.

Congrats! You just watched a propaganda film. That's what a one-sided documentary is. Can I ask how in depth Moore went into the flaws in the other countries health care systems? Proabably not at all. Did he go around those countries looking for people scorned by their systems? I bet not. Nothing is unflawed (especially public policy), but I'd rather be in control of myself in a republic/democracy rather than a socialist/communist/dictatorship. That's being taken away (self-control) more and more no matter what party is in the White House.

Re: what are you watching RIGHT NOW.... or somewheres about close to "right now" PART 2
I watched 300 (8/10): I had never seen it before, but I think they could have told the ancient battle without mythological monsters. Elephants and Rhinos would have seemed monstrous to ancient Spartans and should have been good enough. Giving some blobby guy swords for hands is like giving Hitler a gun for an arm. I just didn't think it was needed and distracted myself from the big picture. I thought it was great nonetheless.
Lost: Season 1 (10/10): Great show, started the second season already, but its not shaping up to be as good... It never is, is it?

Watched Evil Dead I and II, Groundhog Day, and The International yesterday. It rained all day so I did not go to Rocklahoma.
I don't even need to rate Evil Dead. They rule.
Groundhog Day. Still awesome. 8 / 10
The International was okay. It did get a bit muddled near the end. I was barely paying attention and lost track of half the minor characters. Still decent but not one of Clive's best. Naomi Watts was relly not very good in this film. 6 / 10 stars
Watched Up at a 3D theater on Saturday. Wow. Just Fucking Wow!. 9.5 / 10 stars

Stanley Cup Finals Game 7 11/10 What can I say? Winning a Super Bowl and a Stanley Cup within 4 months of each other. Doesn't get much better than this. Now if only we had a decent baseball team, but I guess I can't be that greedy.

I watch Lost religiously, I'm already sad that next year is the last year.

It is kind of good, though, because most shows only think about the pilot when they start filming. Some think about where the first season is going. Very, very few have an idea of where the ENTIRE SERIES is going from the getgo. It makes it much less random, all they have to do is fill in the minor details.
