100 Films to See Before You Die
I was bored, so I went to Yahoo!'s movie site. I found this: http://movies.yahoo.com/feature/100-movies-to-see-before-you-die.html
I've only seen 33 and I need to rewatch approxiamtely 10-12. How many have you seen?
Want to put together a list like this? How would we do that?

I've seen 54 of them...but there are others besides those that I've either seen most of, parts of, or the whole thing, but it's been so long that I can't really remember...not a bad list overall...

Re: 100 Films to See Before You Die
I always see lists like this, and always want to have like a 100 day marathon. Just go down the list.
Then I realize I have no interest in watching 90% of these so-called "classics", and it's really hard to force yourself to watch a movie (at least for me it is).
I still kinda want to see them, but really, I just don't have the patience or free time to sit down to watch movies. Kinda sucks...
Maybe after I'm rich, I'll just devote an entire year to discovering all the good movies I've missed. I hear this one called The Godfather (I think that's the name) is pretty good. Anyone heard of it....?

Re: 100 Films to See Before You Die
we've actually seen 70 of those, quite impressed, but you are totally correct, Banks. We will never go totally out of our wa to find a movie, but if it is going cheap we will pick it up. And some of the movies missing from that list are ridiculous.

Saw 55. Have a quite a few on the list on my Netflix queue. Need to re-watch quite a few of them though. I think The Movie Club will help narrow that down though

Re: 100 Films to See Before You Die
An idea on how we could a top 100 here in Fantaverse. First I think we need 400 nominees. This could take a while to get, but we get all the people are are interested in doing this. Then similar to the draft we have a picking order. In order a person can throw out 1 pick, then it has to get 60% of the votes from the remaining people to be put on the nominee list. Once we have our nominee's then we can all put together on 100 and how we would combine is still a question but at least we'd have the nominee's.
E.G.
I nominate Raging Bull
out of 10 other people 6 2nd my nom. Then it would be put on the nominee's list.
Thoughts?

I think its a great idea to do our own, and I think maybe we should take it into consideration that we should use it for the movie club.
And I've seen 38

The World Of Apu. Netflix doesn't have it and no video stores would even think of stocking the Apu trilogy. I would probably ask the library to order them but I think that they are out of print.

Re: 100 Films to See Before You Die
This 100 list is gonna be difficult to compile. I only say, and not meaning to be prejudiced in any way, that a lot of you guys from the US focus your movie watching to US made movies. That's not a bad thing, just that it will automatically eliminate a lot of very important foreign language movies just because you haven't had the opportunity to watch them.
Having said that, I think the idea is great, and it will be good to hear some of your thoughts on what makes a movie so important. I'll start working on a list of my own.

Re: 100 Films to See Before You Die
I've seen 60 of them. I find it interesting that they list the Lord of the Rings as one film (as it has three dates listed for its release, I didn't see any other entry listed like that).

Re: 100 Films to See Before You Die
I imagine they were listed as one for three reasons:
1.They were all shot as one film but released as three.
2.All three films focus upon the same plot (Frodo and Sam's journey to destroy the ring and the battle between the elves and the orcs).
and
3.to make more room for other, not as popular but just as important titles.
For similar reasons, Kill Bill is often listed as one film instead of two.

Re: 100 Films to See Before You Die
Yeah, but I can watch all of the Lord of the Rings individually. They all have their own story arcs that complete within their own movie. I can see how the argument can be made, and it is a good one, but not as good as the one for Kill Bill. I can't watch a Kill Bill without the other. Its two halves of the same arc to me. the first one offers no closure to it. Its like a cliffhanger episode of a television show, with to be continued at the end. I just don't see LOTR the same way. But your third point is definitely valid, and is why I have absolutely no problem with them doing it.
