Pelham 123/ Imagine That weekend tracking Empty Pelham 123/ Imagine That weekend tracking

Post by BanksIsDaFuture Thu Jun 11, 2009 5:27 am

I don't actually have any tracking numbers, nor do I know where to find them.

But I'll just post my predictions and invite you guys to do the same:

1. Up - $28
2. Pelham 123 - $26
3. Hangover - $25
4. Imagine That - $16
5. Night At The Museum 2 - $8

Obviously, 1-3 could end up in any order, it'll be a very close race.

I would love for Up to keep holding well. Would also love for The Hangover to have another ridonkilously good weekend.

Pellham looks like a good thriller/action film, and should open well with two good draws.

I think:

1. Up: 29.3M
2. Pellham: 27.5M
3. Hangover: 26.5M
4. Imagine That: 12.5M

Oh, also, add whatever The Proposal sneaks make to that Up number. We could be looking at $32M+ in that case.

39% drop for Up
41% drop for The Hangover
$28 million for Pelham
$16 million for Imagine That

And I just noticed something while looking up the drops for Knoced Up and 40 Year Old Virgin, Universal's weekend actauls always end in a 5 or 0. Something's screwed up here as studios are apparently making up their own numbers for actuals.

Yeah. That was my first thought too. It's not like they all ended in 000 which would be too much rounding, it's just the last number. Hardly worth anything in the grand (or even not so grand) scheme of things.

Huge thursday for Up, its gaining on Finding Nemo, and was only down 16.9% from last Thursday.

The Hangover is looking at hitting $100 million in ten days.

Will be interesting now to see how the Friday bumps treat Up and The Hangover.

I think that with the Thursday bump, and a favorable Friday bump, Up will win the weekend, so it's wait and see for now.

Mase's numbers:

Final Weekend Box Office (see note below):
THE HANGOVER-$10.2M Fri/$32M 3-day,
Pixar's UP-$8.3M Fri/$28.5M 3-day,
PELHAM 123-$9M Fri/$26M 3-day
& well down the Top 10 Eddie Murphy's IMAGINE THAT-$1.9M Fri/$6M 3-day!

If that holds, I really hope I don't have Imagine That left on any slates...

Great Scott. Poor Eddie. I really thought this one looked good. Reviews have been favorable, more so than most of his recent crap. Perhaps he has officially entered has-been-hood as an actor.

Wow, W was kind of wrong on something! Great Scott indeed! Those numbers bear out pretty much exactly what I expected from the top 3. I expected up to break 30 million as well, but that's what I thought we'd get from the order. And Pelham was slightly higher than my prediction, but still third place.

It's looking better and better by the day for my prediction of 'The Hangover' joining 200 million dollar comedy club.

If the estimates hold 'The Hangover' will be at 106 mil after it's second weekend, the estimated 32 million is a sub-30% drop on it's second weekend. It's holding right now better than UP was, a better first mid-week total and a smaller 2nd weekend drop.. But don't worry the guys at Pixar aren't distraught, they are looking at (pat on my back again for calling it) one of the few animated features that will reach 300 million!

UP will stand around 185 million after it's 3rd weekend with a sub-40% drop. I see UP leap frogging Taking of Pelham for the No.2 slot.

Awesome weekend as Hangover and Up both will make over $30 million (even if Steve Mason says Up will miss out, it won't). The Hangover getting $32-35 million (from BOG) is insane. It will hit $200 million now. Up having a better third weekend than Finding Nemo puts it on course for $300 million. Pelham 123 did OK, if not a little under expectations at $24 million.

EDIT: Up looks to have one of the Top 10 3rd weekends of all time.

Damn, I picked Imagine That in one league I think... MISTAKE!

I thought Pelham would do better, but it could still do Face/Off numbers and hit $100M (probably not thought).

Yep, kind of. In my defense, I did take it off of all but some of the April-June leagues where the only other choice was really My Sister's Keeper, which may not even fare this well. I also said its stock was falling in this week's Bonanza...
