Damn, The Animals out already. Gotta get The Kinks through this round then, I couldn't put up with the concept that The Rolling Stones and The Beatles would be the sole participants of the British Rock and Roll scene.

The Kinks are curently rated higher than Elvis. Peace in the Middle East. Paris Hilton wins an Oscar. Cats and Dogs are great friends.

And leestu also cast his vote for the kinks. It looks like they are going to take Elvis down.

Damn right the Kinks are winning. Elvis' legacy has mean't nothing to me other than his role in Eerie Indiana. His music has not inspired me in any way. He was more hip thrusting than actual talent. Ray Davies had more talent in his little finger, and The Kinks, at least in my opinion were better than The Beatles. The pretty much introduced electric with She's Really Got Me. That is enough for them to get my vote.

Elvis owes everything to Motown, the Blues and R & B.
Rock and Roll owes everything to Elvis.

Motown came after Elvis. Motown was founded in 1958, Elvis had hits before then.

Leestu I see that you have made it over here. That means you have voted and I don't have to add a vote to the Kinks and Janis Joplin anymore right?
Re: FM Best Artists in the History of Rock and Roll (Tournament Page 1955-1965)
I think Im so-phisticated
cos Im living my life like a good homosapien
But all around me everybodys multiplying
Till theyre walking round like flies man
So Im no better than the animals sitting in their cages
In the zoo man
cos compared to the flowers and the birds and the trees
I am an ape man
I think Im so educated and Im so civilized
cos Im a strict vegetarian
But with the over-population and inflation and starvation
And the crazy politicians
I dont feel safe in this world no more
I dont want to die in a nuclear war
I want to sail away to a distant shore and make like an ape man
Im an ape man, Im an ape ape man
Im an ape man Im a king kong man Im ape ape man
Im an ape man
cos compared to the sun that sits in the sky
Compared to the clouds as they roll by
Compared to the bugs and the spiders and flies
I am an ape man
In mans evolution he has created the cities and
The motor traffic rumble, but give me half a chance
And Id be taking off my clothes and living in the jungle
cos the only time that I feel at ease
Is swinging up and down in a coconut tree
Oh what a life of luxury to be like an ape man
Im an ape, Im an ape ape man, Im an ape man
Im a king kong man, Im a voo-doo man
Im an ape man
I look out my window, but I cant see the sky
cos the air pollution is fogging up my eyes
I want to get out of this city alive
And make like an ape man
Come and love me, be my ape man girl
And we will be so happy in my ape man world
Im an ape man, Im an ape ape man, Im an ape man
Im a king kong man, Im a voo-doo man
Im an ape man
Ill be your tarzan, youll be my jane
Ill keep you warm and youll keep me sane
And well sit in the trees and eat bananas all day
Just like an ape man
Im an ape man, Im an ape ape man, Im an ape man
Im a king kong man, Im a voo-doo man
Im an ape man.

This poll is incredibly tight! I hope Elvis can pull away!

I think I am just going to have to call it for the next to get a vote. It has been extremely close and there are not going to be a lot of votes left cast. Next to get a vote moves on.
Re: FM Best Artists in the History of Rock and Roll (Tournament Page 1955-1965)
I have voted for The Kinks on here properly now Geezer. Thanks.

Well that happens to be the deciding vote. The Kinks pull the "upset" and take it. They will face Johnny Cash in round 2.
Bob Dylan vs The Yardbirds

Re: FM Best Artists in the History of Rock and Roll (Tournament Page 1955-1965)
Yes he certainly did. The Yardbirds never really had a chance. Now lets see if Roy Orbison has a chance at taking down Buddy Holly.
Re: FM Best Artists in the History of Rock and Roll (Tournament Page 1955-1965)
Guess Not. Buddy Holly moves on, although Roy did put up a bit of a fight.
Up Next, The Beatles take on Marvin Gaye!

I missed this vote but it would have been an even closer fight if I hadn't of. The Big O would have got my vote.

Re: FM Best Artists in the History of Rock and Roll (Tournament Page 1955-1965)
The Beatles swiftly crush Marvin Gaye. No big surprise there.
Ray Charles vs the Beach Boys. This is a great match.

Re: FM Best Artists in the History of Rock and Roll (Tournament Page 1955-1965)
The next vote should break the tie and send one of these to the next round. I knew this would be a tight battle.
Re: FM Best Artists in the History of Rock and Roll (Tournament Page 1955-1965)
And Ray Charles gets the deciding vote. Up next, Chuck Berry takes on James Brown.
Re: FM Best Artists in the History of Rock and Roll (Tournament Page 1955-1965)
Another incredibly tight match, but I believe the right man won in the end. Chuck Berry moves on. New poll up momentarily. Last one for the first round, The Stones vs. Sam Cooke. I predict a massacre.

Re: FM Best Artists in the History of Rock and Roll (Tournament Page 1955-1965)
The Rolling Stones roll over Sam Cooke. He never had a chance.
This concludes the first round of another poll with no upsets. Unless you include the Kinks over Elvis, but by seeding that wasn't even a real upset. Here comes the fun, in Round 2!
The match-ups:
1. Johnny Cash
vs.
8. The Kinks
4. Buddy Holly
vs.
5. Bob Dylan
2. The Beatles
vs.
7. Ray Charles
3. The Rolling Stones
vs.
6. Chuck Berry
Not as interesting as the 66-75 poll, but still should be fun to watch.

Re: FM Best Artists in the History of Rock and Roll (Tournament Page 1955-1965)
It's been more than 24 hours and Johnny Cash has a pretty decent sized lead. He moves on to the sweet 16.
Buddy Holly vs. Bob Dylan up now!
Buddy Holly vs. Bob Dylan up now!
Re: FM Best Artists in the History of Rock and Roll (Tournament Page 1955-1965)
I predict the finals here as The Beatles versus Bob Dylan with Beatles winning. Not a surprise really.
