I'm opening up this poll for the voting between the match-ups so we can run them simultaneously with the nominations.

Damn, The Animals out already. Gotta get The Kinks through this round then, I couldn't put up with the concept that The Rolling Stones and The Beatles would be the sole participants of the British Rock and Roll scene.

The Kinks are curently rated higher than Elvis. Peace in the Middle East. Paris Hilton wins an Oscar. Cats and Dogs are great friends.

And leestu also cast his vote for the kinks. It looks like they are going to take Elvis down.

Damn right the Kinks are winning. Elvis' legacy has mean't nothing to me other than his role in Eerie Indiana. His music has not inspired me in any way. He was more hip thrusting than actual talent. Ray Davies had more talent in his little finger, and The Kinks, at least in my opinion were better than The Beatles. The pretty much introduced electric with She's Really Got Me. That is enough for them to get my vote.

Elvis owes everything to Motown, the Blues and R & B.

Rock and Roll owes everything to Elvis.

Motown came after Elvis. Motown was founded in 1958, Elvis had hits before then.

This poll is incredibly tight! I hope Elvis can pull away!

I think I am just going to have to call it for the next to get a vote. It has been extremely close and there are not going to be a lot of votes left cast. Next to get a vote moves on.

Well that happens to be the deciding vote. The Kinks pull the "upset" and take it. They will face Johnny Cash in round 2.

Yes he certainly did. The Yardbirds never really had a chance. Now lets see if Roy Orbison has a chance at taking down Buddy Holly.

Guess Not. Buddy Holly moves on, although Roy did put up a bit of a fight.

I missed this vote but it would have been an even closer fight if I hadn't of. The Big O would have got my vote.

The Beatles swiftly crush Marvin Gaye. No big surprise there.

Ray Charles vs the Beach Boys. This is a great match.

The next vote should break the tie and send one of these to the next round. I knew this would be a tight battle.

And Ray Charles gets the deciding vote. Up next, Chuck Berry takes on James Brown.

Another incredibly tight match, but I believe the right man won in the end. Chuck Berry moves on. New poll up momentarily. Last one for the first round, The Stones vs. Sam Cooke. I predict a massacre.

The Rolling Stones roll over Sam Cooke. He never had a chance.
