THE SUPER LEAGUES 2008 - WINNERS!!!!
The results are not official yet, and by the end of this week, I will post the final statistics of each round of every tournament this year for all to peruse, but I think that the end of this year-long event, to which many, many people have sweated it out, deserved its own thread.
The date of this post is December 29th (Monday), which means that the tournaments officially ended yesterday. The results are not officially final yet, but I thought I'd get a jump on the kudos, to those who so richly deserve them.
ULTIMATE HALF-YEAR TOURNAMENT (1st Half)
Gold Medal: pulpclub
Silver Medal: d0nnie dark0
Bronze Medal: sean14307
This tournament was over at the end of July, but it's worth bringing up again. Nineteen players survived four brutal cuts to make the final round, which was won by Mogul stalwart pulpclub, who had the following lineup:
What Happens in Vegas
The Edge of Heaven
Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull
You Don't Mess With the Zohan
The Incredible Hulk
Get Smart
Kit Kittredge: An American Girl
Hellboy II: The Golden Army
Final tally: $830.3M, 43 PTA, 54 Top 5, 55.9 U.R.
Sadly, pulpclub has not yet joined the new Fantaverse, but I'm sure we all send his well-wishes.
BOX OFFICE HALF-YEAR TOURNEMENT (1st Half)
Gold Medal: geezer9687
Silver Medal: Teh_Sham
Bronze Medal: SuperShaan
In this tournament as well, 19 players survived four cuts to take on the biggest box office explosion in FM history. 18 of the 19 players topped $1 billion total, but it was geezer's lineup that pulled in nearly $1.3 billion at the ticket counters, good for a victory of only $12 million:
Iron Man
Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull
The Strangers
You Don't Mess With The Zohan
The Incredible Hulk
Hellboy II: The Golden Army
The Dark Knight ($313M in two weeks!!)
That takes care of what we already knew, so let's get to what we don't...
BOX OFFICE FULL-YEAR TOURNAMENT
Gold Medal: annyonggob888
Silver Medal: codeslinger
Bronze Medal: delfinasu
Seventy players started, but only seventeen survived to the tenth and final round, but anny took control early and never really looked back. He did it with the following lineup:
Beverly Hills Chihuahua
High School Musical 3: Senior Year
Zack and Miri Make a Porno
Role Models (he was the only one that took it for $6)
Soul Men
Twilight
Four Christmases (one of only two to take this one for $18 )
Well done, anny!
BOX OFFICE HALF-YEAR TOURNAMENT (2nd Half)
Gold Medal: Aquamann2001
Silver Medal: lainiediamond
Bronze Medal: codeslinger
Exactly 100 players turned in lineups at the beginning of June to fight for this crown, but only 25 survived four brutal cuts to jockey for the title at the end. And in that end, the rest of the field was no match for Aquamann2001, who slaughtered his competition with the following lineup, which topped $570 million for the victory (more than $25 million ahead of 2nd place):
Beverly Hills Chihuahua
Quarantine
The Secret Life of Bees (the only one to take this film)
High School Musical 3: Senior Year
Zack and Miri Make a Porno
The Haunting of Molly Hartley
Twilight
Four Christmases
Outstanding work, Aquamann!
ULTIMATE HALF-YEAR TOURNAMENT (2nd Half)
Gold Medal: codeslinger (winner by tiebreak)
Gold Medal: A_Roode
Bronze Medal: SuperShaan
I was sure that Bedtime Stories was going to be the difference-maker on the final weekend, but it actually turned out to be Valkyrie, which ends up pushing both Roode and codeslinger past Shaan for the dual victory.
Both players' rosters included:
Beverly Hills Chihuahua
Quarantine
Dear Zachary
Quantum of Solace
Bolt
Valkyrie
Whereas Roode opted for Twilight and Repo: The Genetic Opera, codeslinger chose Nick and Norah's Infinite Playlist and Four Christmases. Result: Roode finished with more B.O. and PTA, but codeslinger finished with more Top 5 points and higher User Ratings.
The tiebreak, decided by head-to-head matchups, goes to codeslinger, who finished ahead of Roode in three of the first four rounds.
And now, the brass ring, the Fantaverse's Stanley Cup, goes to:
ULTIMATE FULL-YEAR TOURNAMENT
Gold Medal: SuperShaan
Silver Medal: Thomassi87
Bronze Medal: ashkul88
Ashkul made a late charge, but Shaan ends up taking first place by a mere half a point over Thomassi87.
Shaan's roster had the following titles:
Beverly Hills Chihuahua
Quarantine
The Boy in the Striped Pajamas
Twilight
Four Christmases
Nick and Norah's Infinite Playlist
Soul Men
Quantum of Solace
I originally posted a tie between Shaan and Thomassi, but a late correction tipped the scales in Shaan's favor. Way to go, sir!
Absolutely outstanding work to everyone who made it all the way to the end! I will post the final results of all rounds, in all tournaments, hopefully no later than Jan 6.
Let the kudos and the Monday-Morning Quarterbacking begin!

Re: THE SUPER LEAGUES 2008 - WINNERS!!!!
Wow! I have a shot for Bronze Medal in BOX OFFICE FULL-YEAR TOURNAMENT! I've never expected to be so close... If I haven't chosen High School Musical 3: Senior Year after his beautiful 3-days start it seemed possible $130 M... That's life! Everything else was way more than I projected... including Marley & Me...
Re: THE SUPER LEAGUES 2008 - WINNERS!!!!
Can't believe if I hadn't gotten knocked out in round 4(Thanks Clone Wars and Guy Ritchie), I would have come in second for the Half-Year Box Office game. Having Marley, Bedtime Stories and Valkyrie would have vaulted me all the way to 2nd.
Oh well, bring on the 2009 Super leagues and congrats to all of the 2008 winners.
Shryke - At some point, maybe we should also give kudos to the mogul(s) who have the highest Box Office take for the entire game(s) (Full Year and Half Year) to see who is the best slate picker over the course of the whole game and not just for the final slate. The reason I say thiis that you could just barely qualify at the end of each game, and then hit it big in the final game whereas someone could actually be winning every month and then come in second in the final slate and not get the win. Just a thought

Re: THE SUPER LEAGUES 2008 - WINNERS!!!!
And it's a good thought, Keyser. Tell you what, I'll leave that to you to determine, once I post all of the individuals rounds for you all to peruse.
Re: THE SUPER LEAGUES 2008 - WINNERS!!!!
Congrats to all the winners who have been announced. But be very afraid, I will hunt you down. I will look for you, I will find you, and I will kill you. And then I will whistle away with your trophy in my hands.
That's what you get for being better than me.

Re: THE SUPER LEAGUES 2008 - WINNERS!!!!
Made a late change to the Ultimate FY stats. It seems we don't have co-champs after all!
Re: THE SUPER LEAGUES 2008 - WINNERS!!!!
Hey Shryke, thegreenarrow wants to use the same slates for her FY tournaments as well. I'll get her to think of some studio names too.

Re: THE SUPER LEAGUES 2008 - WINNERS!!!!
Lies! I have posted slates for three of four leagues, the only one missing is for Full Year BO. (And I know Shryke saw them AFTER he posted the list of delinquents.) But Box Office is more of my bread and butter, so I don't want to just cobble that one together.
