I thought the film was supposed to show what Hollywood is really like and therefore I felt that a happy ending was too artificial and didn't fit the tone of the film. Plus, most of the characters are real assholes and by the end you want them to get their just desserts.

I was able to get the Commitments for $5.50 at Target (which someone else above did as well, I think it was Busc, but may be mistaken), which was awesome considering the only other place here that had it was charging $23.99. I also ordered Serenity and Flags of our Fathers on Blu Ray from Amazon.

Yesterday we did our bank accounts some damage and bought:

Dark City
Cloverfield
Russian Dolls
A Life Less Ordinary
How To Make An American Quilt (the wife's choice, I went along with it just so I could perve at Winona for another couple of hours...)
Heavenly Creatures
La Vie En Rose
The City Of Lost Children

lol.. even in his choice of candy, surfer needs to reaffirm his masculinity to the world

we got Dark City: Director's Cut on bluray from netflix.. prolly watch it tonight.. haven't seen the directors cut yet.. but the movie's a classic.. (i cite it often when arguing that the Matrix is nothing but derivative gobbledygook)

and, despite all of its flaws, City of Lost Children is damn fun to watch

I don't mind there being biscuit (in British English, that's a cookie), but raisin? Maybe in a cookie but in a candy bar, no way.

Actually, the Raisin and Cookie part is just a branch of the Yorkie family tree. There are a number of different varieties. However, nothing compares to the original. The original is just pure chocolate, thick and chunky creamy goodness. Best eaten when slightly chilled as it gives it that extra bite. And it does help improve my masculinity too. You should try some NSpan, I'm sure your gf would appreciate it, especially after what she has had to put up with so far.

Man, we are coming out to the US for our honeymoon in June. Every time I come on this thread I have to note down the name of another store to visit when I'm there. $3 for special editions!! Man, IF we ever get DVDs cheap over here in NZ, its for the US equivalent of about $15 minimum. The amount of money I have spent on DVDs over the years. I won't list them all, but I have well in excess of 500 just here, with another stack in the UK. If I could have gotten even half of them for $3 I'd be a lot richer.... or I'd have bought a lot more.....

Surfer, I live here and I don't know where these places are. Don't get too excited. You should be able to find them for $10 or less though, as long as they're not new.

Yeah, Big Lots seems to get boxes of things that the major studios clear from their warehouses. The only drawback usually is that Warner Bros. will put slits on the bar codes and slight mar the box art. But for three dollars, you can't complain. I've lately been trying to check once every month more DVD's.

Other Ones That I've Seen There But Didn't Purchase:
Bugsy (director's cut)
Hudson Hawk (special edition)
The Sure Thing (special edition)
East Of Eden (special edition)
Grand Hotel (special edition)
Sneakers (special edition)
8 Mile (special edition but full screen only)
I Am A Fugitive From A Chain Gang
The Band Wagon (special edition)
Barbershop 2: Back In Business (special edition)

and a lot of movie-only DVD's as well

Yeah, I'm not too worried about the box art. I used to be when I lived in the UK, but here in NZ they plaster the box art with guidance stickers which will ruin the dvd if you try to peel it off. I hate stickers on box art. I'll certainly be making a welcome stop to some of these stores then, I don't have Chain Gang on dvd yet, and things like that are almost impossible to find over here.
