Re: what are you watching RIGHT NOW.... or somewheres about close to "right now"
Forgetting Sarah Marshall was almost as good the second time around.. the "extended" version doesn't add much.. in general, i don't think Jason Segel really has what it takes to be a leading man--but i suppose he pulls it off here.. the movie is overrated by some, but still a good'un
meanwhile, Step Brothers becomes increasingly brilliant the more times I see it.. we didn't bother renting this one.. after having seen it in the theater, we knew we'd be buying it on dvd.. a new classic
we tried to catch a free midnight showing of From Beyond at the downtown alamo drafthouse.. of course, anything downtown with the word "free" in the title is instantly packed.. heck, they should charge a buck or two just to keep out the riffraff.. anyway, it was already a full-house by the time we got down there.. so, to satisfy our Stuart Gordon fix, we watched Fortress later that night.. kate had never seen it (but has, in the last few years, become a fan of Stuart Gordon, Jeffrey Combs, Christopher Lambert, and Clifton Collins Jr.--aka Tack from The Stoned Age), and she loved it.. i mean, that's a pretty awesome cast, and they even threw in Red from That 70s Show for good measure.. it's like No Escape but without the island.. i had only seen it once before, late night, on TNT, as a stoned teenager.. i knew i'd have to watch it again eventually... now if only Stuart Gordon could get House of Reanimator off the ground..
also rewatched Narc recently.. not quite as profound as i thought it was in the theater--but still a very good movie.. i've described it as the "good" version of Training Day--and i think i'm stickin' with that.. Ray Liotta is a badass.. its too bad director Joe Carnahan would go on to make dreck like Smokin Aces.. ugh
up next: RoboCop (on the big screen!), Prince Caspian (this will be my first viewing since the theater)
netflix queue top 5: Starship Troopers, The Last Boy Scout, Hard Eight, Sukiyaki Western Django, Dolls

I watched Wall-E and Demolition Man last night. I never realized that Demolition Man was so much like both Judge Dredd (the sci-fi, the action and Stallone) and Hudson Hawk (the humor, Daniel Waters as a writer and both feature main characters leaving prison). And Denis Leary gets to do one of his rants.

I just finished the 4th season of Weeds. Every time I write off that show, it just pulls me right back in. The ending may have been a bit much however. Will have to see how they take it...

Watched Johnny English. 4/10. First half hour was funny then it became painful to watch. Natalie Imbruglia might look good but her acting is just par, maybe even sub par.

I watched Fargo last night, but sadly it was on television. So even though it was late at night and not as much gets censored, I still got to hear amazing dubs like:
--"I gave him fruitful instructions!"
--"Drop the freezing briefcase!"
--"I drove the whole frozen way, and not a word out of you."

We watched The Machinist for the first time in a couple of years last night. It is such a fantastic psychological thriller, I can't believe it didn't pick up the same hype the likes of Memento did. Brilliant, no shockingly astonishing acting from Christian Bale, he supposedly broke a world record by dropping 63 lbs for the role. Great cinematography, very pscho-ish musical score, and a very compelling story makes for one of my favourite watches of the last few months.
I don't think I'm gonna be watching (or for that matter on here) too much over the next week though, my wedding is on Saturday, and I'm a little busy. At least we will be the first couple married on The Fantaverse resurrected!!

Once *****/*****
Great movie. One of the best musicals I've seen, and very original in how it's done. Will definitely watch again, and get the soundtrack.
Hoop Dreams ***/*****
Good doc. A bit long for my taste (3 hr runtime). Probably would've been better had I watched it when it was first released, as now HBO has a doc of this type on every 3 hours...

Saw an exceptional movie called Stage Beauty. Billy Crudup gives an inspired performance as a male stage beauty (man who plays the female roles in plays), and the world gets turned upside down when the king (Rupert Everrett, hilarious as always) allows real women on the stage. Its definitely for mature audiences only, but totally worth watching if you enjoy solid acting, historical England, cross dressing and heavy innuendo.

Just finished a 'Mad Max' marathon and watched the trilogy. Suprised to see 'Beyond Thunderdome' rated so pitifully on the iMDb (5.. 'The Road Warrior' was as terrific as I remember it. I wonder if they've ever thought of doing a fourth one. It'd be interesting to see how that world looks after 20 years.

They have considered a fourth but Mel Gibson doesn't want to do it.

oh and the Machinist IS a great film, so underated at the time it came out, i had just seen American Psycho the week before and had to cover this film, it kept me on the edge, though it was no American Psycho i still could not believe the weight loss, stunning.
And good luck with the wedding SS

Tropic Thunder 5/10: I really wanted to like this movie, but the laughs just weren't there... I laughed more at the trailer for "The Foot Fist Way" (which was on the DVD) than this entire film.
X-Files 2: 3/10: Should have just watched a couple of old episodes on TNT. They are much better.

I figured I would get that, but you gotta be truthful. Someone else here had to not love the film, right?

I know that Shryke didn't love it either.

I watched Lethal Weapon 3 and Maximum Overdrive recently. I never realized that Maximum Overdrive was like Night Of The Living Dead but with possessed trucks and a North Carolina setting.

Yeardly Smith (aka the voice of Lisa Simpson) portrayed one of the most annoying characters ever in the history of stage and screen in Maximum Overdrive. Man, I can actually remember rooting for the machines to take her out.

Yeah she was pretty bad but the awesomeness of Emilio Estevez, the Happy Toyz truck and the AC/DC soundtrack salvaged it.

I am in total agreement. I was young enough to be distracted by the cool idea of machines coming to life when the movie first came out to think it was a good movie. Rewatching it years later, it's hard to finish watching because she is so awful. The soundtrack is the only worthwhile thing. I've got the cd and I doubt that I'll ever watch the movie again.
