Best Film Of April - June 1992
Re: Best Films Of The 1990s [Apr-Jun 1992 poll open NOW! / Noms for July - Sept Open]
Well, sure when I was 8 Turtles was better, and I look forward to watching it with my children, but I just couldn't attach Best Film to it. I however did nominate PW so you can hate me for that. But it's a pretty funny movie, JR is great, and it's the dream story of every Hollywood hooker.

Wow. That was hard as shit. And for the first time in my life, I'm surprised that my head didn't explode trying to figure out whether my film snob side or my 10 yo kid side would win out...Cinema Paradiso is amazing and touching, but nothing beats giant smart-mouthed crime fighting turtles who know karate in my book. Nothing.

Wow... going over the list of 1990 films... I honestly don't remember it sucking this badly.
Here's the link:
BOX OFFICE MOJO
Cry-Baby, The First Power, Ernest Goes to Jail, Q&A, Spaced Invaders, Wild Orchid, Tales from the Darkside: The Movie, Bird on a Wire, Cadillac Man, Gremlins 2: The New Batch... all sucked. Hard. My God, GHOST DAD!!! Aaaargh!
Here are ones that I actually remember liking (just barely):
The Gods Must Be Crazy II
Robocop 2
Dick Tracy
Days of Thunder
But if I'm nominating films from Apr-Jun 1990, here are my top three:
Total Recall (by a wide margin)
Another 48 HRS.
Back to the Future III
Anyone who nominates Frankenhooker gets kneed right in the jewels!

I hated The Gods Must Be Crazy II. The first one was a very good comedy but the second struck me as being very unnecessary.
Meanwhile I liked Q&A, Cry-Baby, Cadillac Man and Bird On A Wire. The Romero segment in Tales From The Darkside was good and Wild Orchid is a gulity pleasure of mine (however, Wild Orchid 2 was awful).
I definitely agree that Spaced Invaders was bad though.

So what happens if the polls stay where they are and we are in a dead heat, do we do a run off with just the two???

Do I just give this to Pretty Woman (sigh) and get on with the next period, or do we want a run off?

I'd say run it off! But I'm biased... but I don't see what it can hurt

I say we run off, I want pretty woman to win, but I want it to be fair to all parties.

I'm gonna hold out for more than six votes. Because that is just pathetic. Then I will put up the poll for April - June.

I can't believe you made me choose between Pretty Woman and TMNT for a best movie poll. Ugh
Re: Best Films Of The 1990s [Apr-Jun 1992 poll open NOW! / Noms for July - Sept Open]
I know, the best film of this period (Cinema Paradiso) just isn't known well enough to win the poll. So it's left to a movie which promotes a woman being totally dependant on a guy being potentially lauded as the best movie of this period. That sucks.

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles won the first period of 1990. New poll is up and nominations are welcome for July - September 1990.

I nominate:
Die Hard 2: Die Harder
Taking Care of Business (I actually thought this was a funny movie)
I Come in Peace (Dolph's best... which ain't saying much, but I thought it was cool)
You're right, Goodfellas should win without a fight.

Well, I guess it's up to me to nominate the BEST movie of this period:
Miller's Crossing
Much more deserving than Goodfellas. And I second Darkman.

I'll second Miller's Crossing. I haven't seen it, but Surfer seems to be awfully strong in his convictions towards it...
Plus Goodfellas was completely underwhelming.

It's a 1930s gangster noir film. Think Road To Perdition directed by the Coens. Probably in the top 3 Coen movies. A brilliant script, fantastic performances, amazing cinematography and score. One of the best movies of the last 20 years. It's THAT good. I have no doubt you would enjoy it.
