Is it time to rename the website?
Or, at least the name at the top of the screen?
Sorry to grouse, but Fantasy Moguls is long gone, and I think we've been around long enough (yeah, eight long months) that we've determined that we can stand on our own. I don't know where we go from here, but I think we need to have a name whose meaning isn't completely lost on those who didn't migrate here from FM. Just my two cents.
I know we talked about this a few months ago, but I think we need to have this discussion again. Especially if we are going to expand. (And believe me, we need to, or we are doomed. It may take a while, but apathy will set in. Look how many stalwarts we've already lost since we started - annyonggob, ashkul88, MrHam, TheJMan, lillylovelost, Haasing1986, rasgriz, packpaljs - not to mention the less-and-less frequent visits by former columnists Mister Informative, Chienfantome and Nico/Swedgin.) Thank god surfer came back, eh?
I am currently being helped by MrHam and a programmer friend of his to give my website (TLMR) a complete facelift. That, coupled with our Italian friends' continued effort to reproduce the FM game a little more closely than our e-mail-and-message-board version, gives me great GREAT hope for the future. But we need more. And I think it starts with a catchy new logo, name and or look. (Slate gray? Is it me, or has it become a little dreary to look at lately?)
Anyway, let all opinions on the matter be heard. I've already exchanged messages with Barca, and he most assuredly will be listening in on this discussion.
And..... go.

Mmmm.... good thought, but there'd be legal issues. Whatever company ran the game before still owns copyright on the name "Fantasy Moguls".

Re: Is it time to rename the website?
Uh. Okay. Thanks, NSpan, I was too lazy to go looking for it.
So, where did we leave this discussion? It seems "Filmaverse" and "Fantasy Box Office" were popular choices for the site and the game, respectively. Then it all got political...
Anyway, let's resume.

Didn't mean to dismiss your new thread, Shrykey. It's just that all of my opinions on the matter are summed up in the old thread.

Re: Is it time to rename the website?
If we want to go with a fantasy type name, something along the line of fantasy producers or fantasy distro might fit the bill nicely, and be easily understood by people not familiar with the game.
That being said, where the hell did Packpal go? He was here all the time, got a virus, and just dropped off...

Re: Is it time to rename the website?
He told me it was computer problems, and that he didn't have enough time to devote to the game at work. He said hopefully he'd be back for next year's games.

Re: Is it time to rename the website?
I like Buttery Popcorn and Junior Mints. Thats pretty creative!
Re: Is it time to rename the website?
Yes it is, but hardly explanatory.
I like "Movie Moguls" or "Box Office Moguls" for the game, and for the site itself, I think "Fantaverse" should be included in the name somewhere. After all, it's a name that pretty much describes all of us.

Re: Is it time to rename the website?
Movie Moguls sounds good. Sort of explains what we do, to the point. I do think we should have the word Fantasy somewhere near or around the headliner - it'll have that automatic association with fantasy sports.
I also like Buttery Popcorn & Junior Mints. Maybe a sub-title?

Re: Is it time to rename the website?
Yeah, it's too bad we can't actually USE "Fantasy Moguls" any more... it was the perfect description... concise and self-defining. But we can't.
How about:
The Fantaverse presents Movie Moguls
How about:
The Fantaverse presents Movie Moguls
Re: Is it time to rename the website?
I still like my name from the other thread...
My Suggestion was calling it: The Ultimate Box Office Fantasy Challenge or The Ultimate Box Office Movie Challenge. Maybe putting "The Fantaverse Presents:" in there for the sake of the name.

Re: Is it time to rename the website?
If we call it Geezer's Place, we have to add "And NSpan chills here too" as the subtitle.

Re: Is it time to rename the website?
I still am steadfast in my argument that the words "Fantasy" and "Movie" can not be juxtaposed because "fantasy movie" means something totally different, and if the idea is to get people to come by searching for movie games, that doesn't work, as it will be buried under all of the "fantasy movie" websites.
Re: Is it time to rename the website?
You can use something totally off-topic if you put a subtitle (is that what its called?) under it.
Like, why do people know what rottentomatoes is? Do people go out and say, "You know what, I was watching a film and wanted to see if there was a site that rated films by a tomato scale."? No, its whole name is "Rotten Tomatoes: Movies - New Release Reviews and Previews" when you search it on Google.
We could do something like "Buttery Popcorn and Junior Mints: Box Office Games and Film Discussion" We could even rate films on "The Kernel's Scale." I give it FIVE BAGS of popcorn! Anyone who watches First Take at all would know what I'm talking about there...
