Post by Buscemi Wed Mar 25, 2009 4:07 am

Is anyone anticipating this film as highly as I am?

And since I don't want to talk like I'm a raving lunatic, I'll let the trailer do the talking.

I was until I saw the trailer. I just can't buy Brad Pitt in that role, and his accent is really annoying.

I'm about 50-50 on it. I'll see it no doubt cause it's Tarantino, but then again Tarantino is vastly overrated. He has a knack for interesting monologues, but that's about it.

I do like Brad Pitt in that role though, and I want to see what Mike Myers does in a serious role.

Well, here's some new footage that was on American Idol recently, supposedly QT was the guest-host (?).

I think its look pretty good, but I don't know why Mike Myers sounds like Dr. Evil. Or maybe I'm so used to that voice coming out of The Cat In The Hat that I'll never get over it. Hopefully, it doesn't ruin the movie for me.

I find it ironic that two of the best film concepts of 2009 both involve Nazis..

1. Inglorious Basterds

2. Dead Snow: Norwegian film about a bunch of Polish (?) people who get stuck while on a ski trip, and then get confronted by Nazi zombies.. Laughing

He was a host on American Idol...that's where they're promoting it? This is going to be absolutely fucking horrible. Let's face it, he hasn't had a "great' movie since Pulp Fiction. Kill Bill 2 was really good, but 1 was just so-so, and mainly had people get off on it for the end scene, which was well done granted. I never made it through the Planet Terror portion of Grindhouse to see Death Proof, but I don't hear good things. Bottom line, he's a hack who's good with dialogue. ALL of his ideas are stolen from other films with just the context changed (i'm not gonna list it here, but you can do an online search).

I really loved Dogs and PF and Dusk Til Dawn (even though they were pretty much rip offs too), but since then it's been disappointing.

I think it's common knowledge that Taratino rips off lesser known films, he's just got an ear for monologues.

And I still can't figure out why they're promoting it on American Idol. And 5 months before it's released, at that.

Tarantino is one of my favorite directors... Yes, he's a ripoff artist--but, as we've discussed before, so were Led Zeppelin.. and that doesn't usually keep them from being discussed as one of somebody's favorite rock bands

he's never let me down so far.. I'd say his weakest entry is easily Kill Bill Vol. 01, but if he ever gets around to releasing the full-length director's cut (of Vol. 01 and 02 combined), all will be forgiven..

and a longer runtime, in this case, only means more QT goodness.. i wouldn't want to see a rushed, overly-edited version of this film..

I agree. I could care less about the running time of a great movie. Long boring movies are tough but can anybody really say that TDK or LotR is too long??? No way. I would watch 4 hours of Amelie or 5 hours of Conan the Barbarian. Movie length is only a concern for the general populace with no attention span.

I don't know, man...LotR got pretty long and drawn out at the end there...

I think movies have gotten way too long for what they're putting out these days. Granted, this doesn't apply to all, as some great movies are long, but much of what comes out these days takes 2 hrs 15 min to say what could easily be said in 80 min...check out Knowing for an example of a drawn out piece of shit (and I'm not even sure how long it was...it just felt like FOREVER...).

Not really, The Dark Knight was too long. Even though it was amazing, it dragged. And I haven't seen LotR but I'm sure that it is also looooong, since it's like 9 hours.

And I halfway agree with mfrendo, Knowing was waaay too long, but it wasn't a piece of shit. Well, at least, I don't think it was.

Related note, is anybody noticing that chick flicks are getting longer and longer? Sex and The City, He's Just Not That Into You, even New In Town felt like it was longer than Grindhouse.

If a movie is good, I dont care how long they are, LotR, in my opinion, could of been longer and I would sit through it all.

on a side note, I just read that LotR would be coming out on blu-ray this december, but only the directors cut, extended cut would come out in 2011. I dont care though, I know what i'm getting myself for christmas!!! cheers

i'm calling it now.... FLOP! 20M OW / 40M T, and i think thats being generous

3 hour runtime, i read somewhere that 70% is french and german. most americans hate reading subtitles. I dont mind reading subtitles, some of my favorites are foreign, but i know that im in the minority. Also read that it's more dialogue based than action.

I didn't know anyone thought it would be a BO hit, it's severly limited due to alot of things. Most of all I think is its release date. Why not an Oscar bait date in November or December? Instead of in the ass end of the summer.....
