Re: Fun and Random Trivia of the Day
Yeah, a talking pig is WAY more impressive than a space station exploding.

Re: Fun and Random Trivia of the Day
Exploding space stations occur all the time but when you take 48 pigs plus an anamatronic pig to play one pig and make it very convincing, that is more special.
For similar reasons, that is why The Golden Compass beat Transformers in the same category twelve years later. Killer robots come a dime a dozen but animals that can morph into other animals is purely once a while.

I truly thought the special effects in The Golden Compass where pretty lame. I was Shocked when that won.

Nothing in 2007 had great effects but the Academy loves morphing effects. The Golden Compass had them. The others didn't.

Alvin and the Chipmunks? Sure it's been done before, but I still think it was pretty amazing. Let me put it this way, the effects weren't lame

Sling Blade
So working on Bad Santa must have been strange for Billy Bob.

When Doyle tells Linda that "retards" make him sick, he adds that the same is true for antique furniture and midgets. Billy Bob Thornton has been quoted as saying that two of his phobias are antique furniture and midgets.

Trivia for the day from 'Cujo':
"Cujo is an ancient Indian word meaning 'unstoppable force.'"
Cool!
I also like this tidbit:
"Star Dee Wallace said she has often been praised by parents for the scene where a hysterical Donna screams at Tad in a moment of frustrated terror. She said its a scene only a parent could identify with."

Re: Fun and Random Trivia of the Day
For my 900th post the Trivia for Sunday 4-19-09 is from a great movie and one of the only films I ever saw at the theater twice. From Dusk til Dawn. Although this isn't really good trivia for the movie or QT.
The exchange involving Kate's line, "What's in Mexico?" and Richie's response, "Mexicans," is from The Wild Bunch (1969).
The line "I've got six little friends and they can all run faster than you can" is a reference to That Darn Cat! (1965), in which Neville Brand says the same thing to a kidnapping victim.
The dialogue between Kate and Seth while awaiting the final vampire attack ("use 'em on the first couple of these parasites that try to bite you") is virtually word for word from Assault on Precinct 13 (1976). Scott Fuller is wearing a T-shirt with 'Precinct 13' on it.
Re: Fun and Random Trivia of the Day
The Trivia for 4-20-09 is from The Big Lebowski in homage to the date.
And as a bonus since I thought this was hilarious;
The word "dude" is used around 161 times in the movie. 160 spoken and once in text in the credits for "Gutterballs" the second dream sequence.
The F-word or a variation of the F-word is used 292 times.
The Dude says "man" 147 times in the movie, nearly 1.5 times a minute.
And as a bonus since I thought this was hilarious;
The Dude never actually bowls.

Trivia Of The Day (4/21/2009)
Bad Santa
and
also
I really cannot imagine Jack Nicholson in Bad Santa. It's probably a good thing that he turned it down.
Bad Santa
Possibly a record for a Christmas film, the word "fuck" and its variations are used 147 times while "shit" appears 34 times amid a total of 243 "profanities".
and
The unrated version of the film furthers the record for the most profanities in a Christmas film, including 170 uses of "fuck", 74 uses of "shit", 31 uses of "ass", 10 uses of "bitch", and 1 use of "bastard", in variable forms.
also
Larry David was considered for the role of Willie.
Bill Murray was signed on as Willie but dropped out for Lost in Translation (2003).
Jack Nicholson read the script and wanted to do the film, but had to turn it down because he was already committed to Something's Gotta Give (2003).

Trivia from "Brigadoon":
"Star Gene Kelly and director Vincente Minnelli both wanted to film scenes on location in Scotland but the studio bosses at MGM insisted the film be shot entirely at the studio. When the movie was released critics noted the staged studio feel of the movie."
Also
"To get the effect of Brigadoon emerging from the mist, Vincente Minnelli filmed the sets with the fog being pumped in, then reversed the shot to show the mist moving away."

Re: Fun and Random Trivia of the Day
From a love-it-or-hate-it film, Freddy Got Fingered:
Everyone knows this one.
When originally rated NC-17 by the MPAA, Tom Green replied, "That's like, porn - with murder."
Filming was interrupted by an irate hot dog seller who refused to move his cart out of the way. He eventually moved for $2,000 (a check that was later cancelled!).
Everyone knows this one.
This film won five Razzies, including worst picture, worst actor and worst director. Tom Green showed up to the ceremony to pick up his awards.

Gotta admire him for that at least.
Re: Fun and Random Trivia of the Day
Lets's go with a classic movie that we all love. If you don't you are a right bastard.
Trivia for 4-21-09 is from Forrest Gump.
And to show Tom Hank's smarts;
Chevy Chase and John Travolta both turned dow the offer to play Forrest.
"No thanks, I wouldn't like to make 40 Mil to play an Oscar winning role."
At least Travolta was in Pulp Fiction that year. Chase was in the glorious comedy, Cops and Robbersons. No, I haven't heard of that movie either.
Trivia for 4-21-09 is from Forrest Gump.
This took only 66 days to pass the $250 million mark at the box office.
The fastest grossing Paramount film to pass the $100 million, $150 million and $200 million marks (as of February 2008)
And to show Tom Hank's smarts;
Tom Hanks wasn't paid for the film. Instead he took percentage points which ultimately netted him in the region of $40 million.
Chevy Chase and John Travolta both turned dow the offer to play Forrest.

To be fair, do you REALLY think either Travolta or Chase would have lead to that result? Maybe they knew it just wasn't for them. Like you said, Travolta went on to do Pulp Fiction.
Re: Fun and Random Trivia of the Day
Hanks did turn down Forrest Gump 2. And I saw Cops and Robertsons in the theater.

Re: Fun and Random Trivia of the Day
I guess thats why I never heard of it. I was 17.
There are so many trivia bits about who turned down what role and a lot of the times the people say they regret turning it down. I bet this was one of those times.

I think the most legendary is Will Smith turning down The Matrix to do Wild Wild West.

Trivia Of The Day (4/22/2009)
in honor of Earth Day
E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial
That would have been sad to make E.T. evil.
Spielberg: "So Columbia, would you like to make a billion dollars and win several Academy Awards?"
Columbia: "I don't know Mr. Spielberg. I like your idea but we really think that Jeff Bridges and John Carpenter's movie will be far more successful. We'll pass."
Cut to 1985
Columbia: "Whoever passed E.T. to make Starman for the studio is a fucking dead man!"
So, some studio hitmen killed the man who made the decision while Spielberg laughed his way to the bank. By the way, 1985 was a great summer for Spielberg. Back To The Future, the E.T. reissue and The Color Purple. Combined domestic take: over $350 million.

E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial
Steven Spielberg's original concept was for a much darker movie in which a family was terrorized in their house by aliens. When Spielberg decided to go with a more benevolent alien, the family-in-jeopardy concept was recycled as Poltergeist (1982).
That would have been sad to make E.T. evil.
This script was being developed at Columbia at the same time as another script about an alien visitation. The studio did not want to make both, so the head of the studio had to choose which film to make; he decided to let ET go and make Starman (1984).

Trivia for the Day: Witness for the Prosecution (1957)
"The plot deals with Charles Laughton's character recovering from a severe heart attack while defending Tyrone Power's character. In reality, this would be Tyrone Power's last complete film - he would die of a heart attack while on the set of his next film less than one year after release of this one. Unsure if he could play a man with a heart condition, Charles Laughton staged a heart attack in the pool one day at home. His wife (Elsa Lanchester) and a house guest panicked and pulled him from the water, at which point he explained his trick (Elsa's reaction has not been recorded)."

From Saving Private Ryan:
Stupid People...
Wow!
At least he has good taste in film?
All the principal actors underwent several days of grueling army training - except for Matt Damon, who was spared so that the other actors would resent him, and would convey that resentment in their performances.
Although Steven Spielberg reduced the color saturation of the movie by 60% for artistic reasons, both major American satellite providers (DirecTV and Dish Newtork) and numerous cable TV providers turned up the chroma gain to re-enhance the color saturation to normal-looking levels when broadcasting the movie. They did this because on the first day or two of the movie's broadcast run, their customer service centers were swamped with calls from viewers complaining that something was wrong with the color.
Stupid People...
The names Rieben reads off the dog tags are all friends of actor Edward Burns.
The Department of Veterans Affairs set up a special 800 number to help the hundreds of former soldiers who were traumatized after seeing the film.
The film was blocked by the Censor Board of India for too much violence. The Board demanded cuts that Steven Spielberg declined to make, and instead he decided not to release the movie in India at all. Realizing the seriousness of the situation, the then Home Minister of India saw the movie himself and, impressed, ordered it to be released uncut.
Private Jackson's shot through the sniper scope and into the eye did actually happen, though not in WWII and not by a Private Jackson. In fact, this was accomplished by Carlos Hathcock (III) during the Vietnam War. It is rumored to be a tribute to Hathcock who has been regarded as one of the USA's most famous snipers.
Wow!
Former US President George W. Bush's favorite movie.
At least he has good taste in film?

I lost all respect for this movie. I may even remove it from my top 100. LOL
