Movies That You Are Ashamed to Have Not Seen
This was talked about on the What Are You Watching Now thread, so we need to start this.

Really Buscemi? [REC] is the best you can come up with? I'm pretty sure the film snob community won't frown upon you for not having seen that. My list will be long, embarrassing and depressing, if I decide to come up with one.

Reservoir Dogs
Now that's just downright WRONG!
I haven't seen Citizen Kane (well, not all of it) and i haven't seen It's A Wonderful Life (have the film, just never in the mood to see it).
Also, on this topic, i'm not exactly ashamed, but i seem to be in the minority; i have seen 2001:ASO but i completely loathe it.
Re: Movies That You Are Ashamed to Have Not Seen
Just off the top of my head:
81/2
Bicycle Thieves
Grand Illusion
Wild Strawberries
The Seventh Seal
Tokyo Story
All movies considered to be amongst the greatest ever made, yet I haven't gotten around to getting them yet. Though they are very high up my wishlist.

Out of those films Surfer, I've only ever heard of 8 1/2
Re: Movies That You Are Ashamed to Have Not Seen
Basically, if it came out pre-80's, I probably haven't seen it. My wife only likes newer films, so it takes some time sometimes. We did have a Hitchcock viewing session over a couple of weeks, though when you've already seen Psycho they just don't seem as good as they should be. I also saw Dirty Harry the other day, so I took a few of them off that list.
#1 is The Godfather Trilogy by far.

Re: Movies That You Are Ashamed to Have Not Seen
Star Wars 1-6
LOTR trilogy
Godfather trilogy
any Alfred Hitchcock movie
Scarface
any Martin Scorsese movie not named The Departed
Citizen Kane
Robocop
The Terminator
Indiana Jones trilogy
basically 99% of movies made before the 2000s since I didn't get into movies until Kill Bill Vol. 1 came out.
This list could go on forever.
Then again I'm not really ashamed since most of those movies I have no interest in ever seeing.

I'm a fan of all of Kubrick's movies (even Eyes Wide Shut), but not 2001:ASO. I didn't loathe it, just didn't really like it much.
My biggest embaressment is The Dark Night, and to a slightly lesser degree Batman Begins. I always intended to go see TDK at the cinema but I just didn't work hard enough to create the oppurtunity to.
I am not ashamed to have not seen it , but I would love to watch The Seventh Seal.
Bicycle Thieves is great Surfer. I think you would really like it.

Wow. That's quite a list Banks.
And Geez, those movies would never touch your radar anyway, considering their language.

Most of the classics, before 1960 and stuff.
Luckily I got Netflix to ameliorate that problem but I still got a long way to go. Just saw Roshomon. Pretty impressive.

Re: Movies That You Are Ashamed to Have Not Seen
I guess having been around a lot longer than most if not all of you and having had a father who was a total movie buff (And even in a few Dean Martin/Jerry Lewis movies), I can't think of any movies that I'm ashamed to have not seen yet. The only one I can even think of that might come close is Pan's Labrynth which has been on our DVR for almost a year, but we always seem to find something else to watch instead of it.
When the AFI published its list of the Top 100 films, I think I had seen 95 of them, and the other 5 were ones that I had no interest in seeing.

Re: Movies That You Are Ashamed to Have Not Seen
I wouldn't say I was ashamed, but the two films people are surprised I haven't seen are Crash and Casablanca.
SS, you really should check out 8 1/2, Seventh Seal, and Wild Strawberries (which I actually did a paper on for a European Film class in undergrad...). Also, check out Jean Luc-Godards French new wave masterpiece, Breathless. If you have netflix, you can stream it to your computer. It's one sf the original films to use jump cuts (that recommendation actually goes out to all my fellow fantaversians with their minds open to foreign titles, not just SS).

Don't be ashamed you haven't seen Crash. Consider yourself lucky that you have been spared.
Re: Movies That You Are Ashamed to Have Not Seen
On The Waterfront
Taxi Driver
The Searchers
Sunset Blvd.
Annie Hall
I own them all but just haven't found time to watch them yet. Also, I own nearly everything of Hitchcock's that is available on dvd, but have watched very little of it. I finally tracked down a copy of 'The Parradine Case.' I was holding out for all of the major films and as many of the major-Minor films as I could because I'm going (in true movie geek fashion) to watch them in the order they were made. I think it'll be fun to see how Hitch's career developed. I've seen most of his silent films and some of the obscure stuff (like his WW2 propaganda films for the Free French) but have thus far avoided Vertigo, Rear Window, Rebecca, Rope, Shadow of a Doubt, Strangers on a Train among several prominent others. Psycho was one I took care of years ago. This summer I'll have a little Hitchcock fest with friends and family.

Actually, I am a big fan of the french new wave and a fan of Godard's in particular. I have owned Breathless for many, many years and consider it a small masterpiece in style and cinematography. I'll have to watch it again actually, probably haven't seen it in 2 or 3 years.
I find it quite amusing that all of us so called movie 'buffs' have not seen so many supposed classics which you would expect us to have. Actually its quite a relief to find that despite our obsession we still have so much to see and so much to learn from cinema, and that none of us are above this.

Re: Movies That You Are Ashamed to Have Not Seen
I got a nice book for Christmas -- 1001 Movies You Must Watch Before You Die -- and it has a funny quote from Roger Ebert on the back. Basically he says that he's seen 943 of the movies in the book and that he's carefully rationing out the rest so that he'll stay alive longer. I got it as a reference for some of the more obscure classics so that I can keep filling in my knowledge gaps. A lot of them are probably too obscure to ever be tracked down, but I'll get to most of the main ones I hope!

It's funny that among my friends and family, I'm the movie guy. But compared to most of you guys or any other movie website, I'm like the little brother tagging along.
Most movie people want to punch me when I tell them I've never seen The Exorcist, Psycho, Terminator, Godfather, Star Wars, Taxi Driver, Rocky, Raging Bull, Serpico, Con Air, One Flew Over The Cuckoo's Nest, Goodfellas, Casino, The Usual Suspects, Silence of The Lambs, Apocalypse Now, Saving Private Ryan, American History X, Lawrence of Arabia, Alien(s), A Clockwork Orange, 2001, The Shining, Chinatown, LA Confidential, Rashomon, Singin In The Rain, Braveheart, Jaws, E.T., The Goonies, The Green Mile, Gladiator, Fargo, Die Hard, The Wizard of Oz, Gone With The Wind, Annie Hall, Heat, Ben Hur, The Deer Hunter, The Graduate, Snatch, Trainspotting, Ed Wood, King Kong, Bonnie & Clyde, Rosemary's Baby, His Girl Friday, Platoon, Patton, Network, Glory, Malcolm X, Spartacus, or any Coen Brothers movies not named No Country For Old Men.
Whew.
