Video Game Movies
Here are a few video games I found that are or at least might be turned into Movies. This first one is for Synestro. I know how much ya like the game.
Return to Castle Wolfenstein
Demonic Nazis, your time is drawing nearer. With acclaimed writer/director Roger Avary (Beowulf) on board, this WWII frightfest based on the old PC first-person shooter actually carries some serious street cred. Same goes to Avary, an ex-programmer and avid gamer. He's reportedly working on the script right now, so expect the harrowing tale of BJ Blazkowicz to eventually reach the big screen.
Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time
Hollywood has long had a love affair with sweeping Arabian epics, so it comes as little surprise that Disney and Jerry Bruckheimer Films would flip over the cinematic possibilities of Ubisoft's action series. The upcoming film is based on the older Sands of Time trilogy and brings with it some serious chops, featuring the likes of Jake Gyllenhaal, Alfred Molina and Ben Kingsley. Directed by Mike Newell (Four Wedding and a Funeral, Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire), it's scheduled for release in May of 2010.
Street Fighter: The Legend of Chun Li
Not to be confused with the Sonny Chiba martial arts classic or the critically-panned 1994 action mess starring Jean-Claude Van Damme, the all-new Street Fighter movie centers around femme fatale Chun Li. The story is still under wraps, though we suspect it has something to do with a secret tournament, a gaggle of worldly brawlers and a nefarious scheme or two. Starring Kristin Kreuk (Smallville) in the title role and directed by Andrzej Bartkowiak (Doom, Cradle 2 the Grave), it's scheduled for release in late February of 2009.
World of Warcraft
Eleven million worldwide subscribers make Blizzard's behemoth a can't-miss property. That bodes well for Legendary Pictures, who secured the rights to a Warcraft film back in 2006. Set one year prior to the events depicted in the popular MMO, the film will focus on an Alliance hero (sorry, followers of Thrall - it's not easy being green in Hollywood.) While they've yet to announce a director, cast or, well, much of anything, they've proposed a roomy $100 million budget and are approaching it as an epic war film. But until we get a release date, the hordes will just have to wait.
Halo
Shortly after Halo 3 obliterated sales records, film execs began blaming it for sluggish numbers at the box office -- and apparently, they want revenge. Once thought to be in the hands of fantasy guru Peter Jackson, the Halo film is currently up in the air. After Jackson bailed out, the film adaptation of Microsoft's money machine entered cinematic limbo. However, recent news about Microsoft accepting a script from Stuart Beattie (Pirates of the Caribbean trilogy) has breathed new life into this surefire blockbuster.
BioShock
One of the best games for the Xbox 360 recently made its way to the PS3 with similarly stellar results, so to say there's a legion of fans thrilled about a BioShock film is putting it lightly. Gore Verbinski (Pirates of the Caribbean) is on tap to direct and produce the feature, though no release date has been issued yet and plot details are nonexistent. Here's hoping it's half as good as the game.
Gears of War
Two smash action games means one thing -- movie time! New Line Cinema locked up the film rights to this Xbox 360 series in early 2007, which is currently slated for a 2010 release. Directed by Len Wiseman (Underworld) and penned by Chris Morgan (Wanted), the Gears movie is expected to be a gritty action romp, though gamers longing for authenticity shouldn't fear: Gears designer Cliff Bleszinski will serve as an executive producer. No word yet as to who will play lead grunt Marcus Fenix, though.
God of War
Gamers have been clamoring for a film based on Sony's vengeful demigod since it first hit shelves in 2005. That classical dream could become a modern day reality, although we're not entirely sure when. A script by noted screenwriter David Self (Road to Perdition) has been completed, and ex-X-Men director Brett Ratner is lined up to direct.
The Sims
No story, no main characters, and no marketing angle? "No problem!" proclaimed 20th Century Fox, who in 2007 blew gamer minds by announcing that they picked up the rights to a film version of Will Wright's enormously popular social experiment. The resulting film project is being produced by John Davis (Norbit), who recently explained that the movie will star teenagers in a story about wish-fulfillment gone awry.
Tekken
Once thought to be forever locked in development limbo (it's been postponed three times), the movie version of Namco's fighting phenom could be poised for a legit comeback in 2009. It follows the tale of devil-plagued fighter Jin Kazama (played by John Foo), who enters - you guessed it - the secretive Tekken fighting tournament to track down his accursed family. After a director carousel, it's been settled that Dwight H. Little (Halloween 4) will helm.

Re: Video Game Movies
Yes! Wolfenstein is my 2nd favorite behind only Half-Life. Yeah, I'm an old school gamer. Both BioSchock and The OrangeBox have yet to tempt me into shelling out bucks for a next-gen (actually it's now current-gen) console. WarCraft will probably make big money and get terrible reviews. I'd pay $15 bucks to see a 90 minute WarCraft/South Park 3D feature. Who's with me? Somebody call Matt and Trey.

Seeing the phrase "Brett Ratner is attached to direct" anywhere sends shudders running through me.

Re: Video Game Movies
Wolfenstien = awesome!
Since when were white guys Princes of Persia?
Chun-Li = California-looking white lady? You'd think they could find an Asian actress in California. At least she's not blond.... I guess...
Don't know much about WoW, but know that tons of people play it and it should get back whatever budget they throw at it and then some.
Halo should be large as well.
By the time BioShock is released, who knows if there will be any intrest in it anymore?
Gears of War: Who knows?
God of War could be good.
The Sims will probably suck.
Tekken was already made. It was called MORTAL KOMBAT!!!!
Anyways, I still want to see a Peter Jackson Zelda film. I very much like video games. I have a PS2, SNES, and am getting a DS for Christmas (I'm 25, married, and have a kid and my parents still buy me stuff... I'm not complaining. It may stop next year as my youngest brother is graduating.)
My favorite games are: Civilization 2, Final Fantasy whatever, puzzle games (Tetris, Dr. Mario), Sports Games, War, and older stuff.

Re: Video Game Movies
I like Run and Gun games. Any game where I can just vent by gettin a sniper rifle and pickin off some people I'm cool with. That's all I do on GTA: Vice City now. I got to the end and now I just get in my chopper go to a roof and just pick people off. Men, Women, Cops. I just shoot them all, then I feel better. Synestro maybe you should try that so you don't want to kill a poor 80 year old Green Jeans.

Yeah, I've been doing that in Battlefield 2. I love using sniper rifles. I used to use them all the time when SOCOM 2 was big and I lived with my parents, which means a great connection.

Forgot about Guitar Hero. I have #2 and my brother has all the rest save Aerosmith. I'm very hopeful for a Guitar Hero: Jimi Hendrix.

Re: Video Game Movies
In the new XPAC for World of Warcraft at the end of a long questline it launches you into a cinematic for about 5 minutes, this more than anything else makes me believe that a movie would succeed against all odds - as long as blizzard actually have creative control. Those 5 minutes were more brilliant and exciting than many 2 hour films I've seen. That said though, I think a Starcraft movie might do better at the box office.
As always I'd love to see anything FF turned into a movie, as someone else mentioned a Zelda flick would be great, Earthbound would be awesome. Half life would be good, but there have been too many of those at this point - RE/Doom. A Halo movie would be pretty awesome, though I've barely played the game, I actually read the first book based off the game and the story was freaking great.

Re: Video Game Movies
If you put Blizzard in charge of a movie it would take six years to film, then get scrapped during editing for being too outdated. Then they've spend three more years doing reshoots. By then, only the diehards would still care but they probably would wait for the DVD.

Re: Video Game Movies
Actually, the diehards would probably just steal the movie. My cousin got a call the other day and Comcast said that he had to move him to Business class because he was downloading so much (he has a room full of illegal dvds). He was in the top 10 of all private users in the country.

I haven't really gotten into the new Warcraft games, but man the first two were so much fun back in the day! That and Starcraft!! I used to play that game until ALL hours of the night! I'd much rather see a movie about Starcraft than WoW

Probably the only person here who would think this, but I would love a Lost Odyssey movie. I loved the story for it
