Discuss.

Personally i like most of the movies in there. I am one of the people who didn't like The Host as much as everyone else. Also, while i love Speed for what it is, it wouldn't make my top 20 list.

I'm happy to see Unbreakable there, IMO very under-rated by most and it's probably the best Shamalamadingdong movie.

Wow, Tarantino liked Anything Else? To me, that was Woody Allen's absolute worst film since it was him making a film for teen audiences. Also, I was surprised that he didn't list Speed Racer. Apparently he was one of the few fans of that film.

And Speed was my favorite movie when I was five.

I really need to see Battle Royale.

For someone so into Asian films, I'm surprised that he didn't mention Oldboy.

I always thought Anything Else was a great script ruined by awful casting (Biggs and Ricci are so wooden).

Isn't everyone in Woody Allen films always wooden? including himself... I found it to be the least mentally offensive of his films (that I've seen), but still not a movie I would enjoy re-watching.

I wouldn't say so, Becs. You're obviously not a fan but Woody usually goes for a natural approach with actors. His scripts can be a little stage-y at times, but if you look at something like Annie Hall it's not wooden at all.

After watching QT's picks, here's my thoughts

Battle Royale: Great fun. Not the greatest movie ever but highly entertaining
Anything Else: Poor performances but good script
Audition: Interesting, insular approach to horror
The Blade: Never seen, not interested
Boogie Nights: Brilliant, one of the best of the 90's. PTA hasn't made anything as good since
Dazed & Confused: Meh. I'm not into "hangout" movies or nostalgia flicks.
Dogville: Pretentious attempt at Brechtian approach to cinema.
Fight Club: Good but flawed
Fridays: Never seen
The Host: A little long but excellent
The Insider: A very engaging thriller. Wouldn't watch it repeatedly though
Joint Security Area: Haven't seen but would love to as I enjoyed the Vengeance Trilogy
Lost In Translation: over-rated and hollow movie that's more interested in soundtrack than substance
The Matrix: Also over-rated
Memories of Murder: Never seen it but am now interested
Police Story 3: Never seen it
Shaun of the Dead: Funny
Speed: I suppose QT has a point but it's far from high on my list of great films
Team America: Very funny
Unbreakable: Another insubstantial film. It's the plot of a short film stretched.

6 or 7 of his top 20 of the last 17 years made my top 100 list ever. And Unbreakable was brilliant. Especially to a comic geek. It was a superhero movie without the tights.

great call on The Host by QT. fantastic film.

Battle Royale is fun as hell (as no.6 said), but it's a bit overrated..

i'm proud to have QT on my side considering our recent debate about Dazed & Confused.. i think it's a bona fide classic

Memories of Murder. just put this on my netflix queue--i'm pumped

funny, i watched Speed on cable the other night.. hadn't seen it in years.. i said to the gf, "man.. this is actually a halfway decent movie that somebody decided to jam Keanu Reeves and Sandra Bullock right smackdab in the middle of!".. QT got it right--even if it's somewhat of a joke nowadays, it was quite an experience to see in the theater

ps. i'm glad even holllywood insiders call him M Night Shamalamadingdong

So, I thought this was interesting. I was looking at the imdb top 250 and the only two tarantino movies not on it are death proof and jackie brown, and personally, I think Jackie Brown is hands down his best, with death proof probably at 3...fanboys.

As I have said before when filmmakers create something different, the diehards are bound to hate it. Just look at Woody Allen.

I think Reservoir Dogs and Pulp Fiction are the only ones that deserve to be on a greatest anything list.

I'm a die-hard, and the only movie of QT's I don't LOVE is Pulp Fiction...W, not going to argue my opinion, but that's what most people's answer would be. Although Reservoir Dogs is my favorite of his, I feel it's slightly trumped by Jackie Brown as far as showing how great of a filmmaker he really is. I mean, it's just so much more mature than his other work.

The book for Battle Royale was WAY better than the movie.

Speed had a bus jumping from one side of the freeway to the other over a non-existent section...enough said.

Personally, as far as films Tarantino has done, I like From Dusk Til Dawn best, even though he only wrote and acted in it.

Yeah, I don't understand his love for speed either, like saying Jan DeBont's in front of it makes it less of an indecipherable mess to modern audiences. It was great in 94, but it's definitely not a classic for anything other than nostalgia. When I first started doing stand-up, I had a routine where I did speed in a minute. If i say so myself, it was pretty damn funny.

i read the first volume of the manga... REALLY didn't hold my interest enough to warrant buying the next one.. and i'm a big fan of graphic novels in general, so it wasn't the medium that threw me off
