The Academy Awards Extravaganza Thread, Or How To Promote The Bejezzus Out Of A Movie Which Would Usually Flop
Okay, if my maths is correct, The Oscars are due to start in the next 20 minutes or so. So I have created this thread to run through the proceedings and see how the awards go. Hopefully we'll get some nice surprises, and hopefully some of the presenters won't get a little too drunk (here's looking at you Roodey) to present the awards.... Who are we kidding, we love drunk presenters (come on Hugh, don't let us down). Anyway, this is mainly just to keep me updated on how the evening goes as I can't watch it right now as I'm in work. Using the internet quietly is one thing, having the awards streamed is probably a bit hard to get away with.... Anyway, last year was very fun, let's hope for more of the same!
Edit: And by the way, this is apparently an official list of the winners which has been leaked, let's see how many of them are correct:

Slumdog wins Best Picture and Best Director but loses Adapted Screenplay? That sounds fake to me. Oh yeah all they are doing is walking the carpet. The show hasn't started yet. It's kind of funny because every single one of these interviews has been awkward. The most would have to have been Jack Black's.
Also I kind of do hope In Bruge wins Original Screenplay since I bought a few stocks on the cheap hoping for a surprise.

And a film with no distributor that no one has heard of beating The Class and Waltz With Bashir for Foreign Language Film? Has to be a fake.

I'm actually surprised at how self depreciating the song was. Jackman got a standing O and Anne Hathway sung pretty well.

Starting BIG. Supporting Actress in a Supporting role! WTF!? Former winners are paying respects to current nominees. It's really personal.

Okay, I couldn't hold out any more without knowing what is going on, so I've streamed the awards but have it on mute. It does look very personal and not as stuffy as of old. So first category:
Best Supporting Actress:
Viola Davis
Amy Adams
Penelope Cruz
Taraji P. Henson
Marisa Tomei
And the winner is....

Penelope Cruz. Not surprised at all.
My vote was for Taraji P. Henson, but you can't argue with that. And that list was obviously a fake....

Steve Martin looks old. Tina Fey looks hot. And the nominations for Best Adapted Screenplay are:
Bejamin Button
Doubt
Frost/Nixon
The Reader
Slumdog Millionaire
with the winner being...

Okay the nominations:
Bolt
Kung-Fu Panda
Wall-E
If Wall-E doesn't win I will quit my job right now.

Wall-E wins best animated feature. Kind of obvious with Jack Black presenting the award.
La Maison En Petit Cubes wins Animated Short.

Most of them have been pretty much as expected so far. Wonder if we will get any surprises soon.

I actually thought that The Duchess (for Costume Design) and Milk (for Original Screenplay) were surprises. The Duchess didn't have much of an audience and in the case of the screenplays, I thought Wall-E was going to be a make-up win for Ratatouille losing to Juno.

No, I know the Academy love period dramas and have a habit of giving them Best Costume. And they still haven't come to terms with the proposition of an animated film winning anything other than best animated feature or song.
I've lost my streaming, so I'm relying on you guys from now on.

Well, I don't know if you saw it, but Stiller did a Joaquin Phoenix gag in his presentation. I thought it was funny. It's a joke that doesn't get old.
