'TDK' finally eclipses $1,000,000,000.00 worldwide
Saturday WB announced that The Dark Knight had reached $1 billion in global revenues, becoming the fourth film in history to do so (behind Titanic, The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King and Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest).
Take THAT, Slumdog, you whiny bitch.
Sunday's Academy Awards will be the lowest-rated of all time. Count on it.
The only Oscars anyone will watch this year

about time, honestly I didnt think it was going to make it. Secondly, I bet that's the only reason they re-released it a few weeks back.

Wow, that took forever. I blame all these stupid foreign countries, who make movies like the Jessica Simpson vehicle Blonde Ambition the #1 movie in their country (I'm lookin' at you, Ukraine.). Yet they shun great movies like TDK. America did our part - $523 million. Why couldn't the rest of the planet at least match us?

Mamma Mia was a bigger movie than TDK here in the NZ..... Even Prince Caspian beat Wall-E too. I am very ashamed. I did go see TDK in the cinema four times though, three times in IMAX. So I did play my part.
And UDM, I think it was partly released for this reason, but also to bolster its chances in the Best Picture category which never happened.

We-elll, Banks, according to BOM's story on the accomplishment, most "comic book-based pictures" earn far more money domestically than overseas, owing I suppose to the fact that superheroes are a uniquely American institution (concepts like vigilantism and retribution outside the justice system being far more tolerated here than in other parts of the world). ... Then again, action flicks from the likes of Stallone and Schwarzenegger have never had a problem finding an audience, right? Anyway, I don't think it's so much that foreigners turn their nose up to titles like these, as it is that it's just not so natural a concept for them to feel comfortable with. The thought of masked avengers, many of them dressed in brightly colored latex, in places like Slovakia or Argentina or Indonesia may not be exactly a slam dunk. It will be interesting to see if Watchmen can carry the water overseas... I strongly doubt it.
Al-Caped Crusaders? Erm, maybe not
