It was not surprising that Reaper got canceled, especially since The CW waited until March to debut the second season (yes, this March).

For us in Australia that means....?
Too bad though, it was a really good show. And Missy Peregrym is hot as hell too.

Barca, we can have .gif's as our avatars?!?! How come nobody told me this...
I recently watched America's Sweethearts. I liked it, very cool rom-com with great performances from everyone involved. Especially Julia Roberts. 7/10
And I stopped watching Reaper halfway through the first season. It was starting to fall into that "defeat the demon of the week" territory and it felt stale. The shitty special effects kinda got on my nerves too. I do think his best friend is hilarious though, he was in Zack & Miri but he needs to be in more stuff.

W wrote:I just watched the great 12 Angry Men (1957) 10/10: Great, great film. Piglet is in it, BTW (Juror #2). This may sound funny, but it reminds me of a sci-filess Twilight Zone episode. You know, in the vein of the type where they're in a room trying to figure something out (usually if someone is an alien or not). Anyways, watch it. There's a reason why its rated so highly.
Actually, here's a stream of the film in its entirety: http://www.kewego.com/video/iLyROoafYMtS.html
You should post your thoughts about this movie in the movie club thread for 12 Angry Men. I haven't seen it yet myself but it's on my queue.
Also going back in time a bit to your discussion on James Stewart after watching Mr Deeds.... and It's A Wonderful Life etc; have you seen The Philadelphia Story? If not you should check it out. Very funny and quick witted. Great to watch and they all made it look like it would have been fun to make.
Watched the first four episodes of House. I had never got around to watching any, and I expected a lot from what I had heard about it, BUT it was even better than I expected. One of the best pilot episodes I have ever seen, and although the first few episodes felt a bit 'samey' that's not such a bad thing when they're so good.

Philadelphia Story is on the list since its in the IMDB 250. May get to watching it sometime sooner now. FYI: House is based on Sherlock Holmes. Holmes > Homes > House... Wilson = Watson. http://www.housemd-guide.com/holmesian.php

Metropolis 9.49/10: Great sci-fi film and closer to nowadays big budget sci-fi films than I would have thought. "Dated" wouldn't be a great word to use to describe this; I'd go with "historical". The film was like reading a book written during a certain time period and being able to tell it was from that time period because of certain details.
In this instance, you can tell its around the time that unions become little by little more accepted (and needed). There's many references to the working man (factory workers) and planners (the elite) with no real middle class. I believe the unions is what they're talking about when they talk about "the heart" uniting "the hands" and "the brain." Anyways, as a guy that majored in history, it was pretty good.

I just watched the first season of Eastbound and Down. I loved the fact that the show feels like a long movie rather than a dumb sitcom with several plots that don't work well together. Danny McBride does a great job and Katy Mixon reminds me of a Southern Jennifer Tilly.
In the way the show is a combination of Observe and Report and The Wrestler but less dark. Could have used a little more dark and graphic content though.

This is probably true, but the character was also inspired in part by a specialist near my town...I've also met the guy who the soup nazi is based on.

Last couple of nights have been watching This Is England and Night Of The Living Dead, one bonafide classic and one which I think will soon become one. Both stunning and gripping pieces of work.

It's too bad that more people don't know the name Shane Meadows. He's a great writer/director of social dramas but none of them have broken out yet. Hell, even Ken Loach has had a few breakout hits in his career.

I would go close to saying he is the most talented of the new breed of film makers in the UK at the moment. Dead Man's Shoes is one of the best movies this century, while This Is England, A Room For Romeo Brass and Twenty Four Seven are all sterling work. I invite anyone to watch one of those movies and not be amazed.

Oh man yes, the crap that's on now is embarassing. Bring back Alex Mack, Pete & Pete, Aagh! Real Monsters and Ren & Stimpy!!! All That was also good (Pierre Escargot was my fave), and Double Dare was probably the best game show ever but they would just screw it up or over complicate it nowadays.transformers2 wrote:Best All That sketches were Good Burger,Repair Man Man Man Man Man,Pierre Escargot and Randy Quench Volunteer Fireman. Keenan and Kel were also the shit. Damn I miss the 90's
Anyway, finally got around to seeing Smoking Aces I found it to be FREAKING AWESOME. Its very much like an Americanized Guy Ritchie film. I also think this movie is probably what other people see when they watch Tarantino films that I just can't seem to see, except that this is actually good.
Had I seen this previously I might have gone into Star Wars with a much better impression of Chris Pine, I always sort of saw him as the preppy pretty boy ala The OC, but here he is a full out tweaking psycho anarchist, the scene where he uses his hands to move Ben Affleck's face (to talk) and has a conversation with himself, priceless.
I could name off basically the entire cast for the great bits they did, which would take forever, so I'll leave that to people to see the flick. Though I will say it was a bit bizarre seeing Matthew Fox and Nestor Carbonell together, wondering if they were transported into the film by the Lost island.

Agreed. For me he follows the Mike Leigh school of direction, which prioritises natural performances, and it works brilliantly. But while he does have his social dramas like 24-7 and This Is England, both of which are excellent, he also made the disturbing revenge thriller Dead Man's shoes, which like SS, I think is a vastly under-rated movie.
It'll be interesting to see what Meadows does with the horror film (Beware the Devil) he's making next.

East Bound and Down Season 1: 64/100 Very funny in parts, very unfunny in parts...
Lost Entire Series (thus far):50/100-95/100 As usual with the Lost series, it's up and down constantly with a twist at the end. I hope if pays off this upcoming season.
The Great Dictator 68/100: Good, not great. My expectations were probably too high as I expected to laugh out loud during half the movie. It is a great piece of history though, considering it came out before the U.S.'s involvement in WWII.

Lost has gone to shit. I honestly just watch it as a comedy now-a-days. Bloody ridiculous. It's very sad too as it had one of the best Pilots ever made.
I just finished watching the season premiere of the fourth season of Psych. I love that show. I also loved the 'friendly' jab at the mentalist.

Watched the director's cut of Watchmen. There's a few good additional scenes (such as the fate of Hollis, which is quite poignant not to mention critical of the "brave" acts of Night Owl) but it still can't mask the terrible performances of some of the cast, the awful pacing of some scenes (sex scene, funeral scene, opening Comedian fight scene, etc, etc) and the nonsensical ending.
