Re: what are you watching RIGHT NOW.... or somewheres about close to "right now"
I recently watched Hustle and Flow and I really enjoyed it for 2 reasons. I liked the aspect of a struggling pimp. It is so far removed from anything in my world that I have no idea wether it is an accurate representation or not but it provided me with a different perspective or viewpoint about that world. As I've said before I like movies that 'enlighten' me about things that I know nothing about and this movie has done that. Secondly I was fascinated in the 'how to create a rap song' aspect. IMO this movie is so much better than the over hyped Eight Mile. It was also interesting to see an early performance of Taraji P Henson.

I saw Knowing (2/5) and Sunshine Cleaning (4.5/5). Knowing had me at the beginning, but quickly fell apart with overly-long-for-no-reason scenes, and an ending I just wasn't sure about. Sunshine Cleaning was great. Amy Adams is one of the best actresses around these days. I'll try to find some time to get a review for you done, Shryke.

I was watching Hard To Kill tonight. The first half is pretty good but the second half is more of an unintentional comedy. This could actually work as a remake but only if the cheese and Seagal-centric elements were played down. My choice for a remake: Daniel Day-Lewis.

Quite interesting that Hard To Kill is on over here tomorrow night. Maybe its an Internation Seagal Weekend. And if there isn't one there should be.....
Today we have been watching an episode of The Twilight Zone, and a couple of episodes of Curb Your Enthusiasm. We never really got around to watching it when it was on tv, I think other things were always on at the same time, so we are watching all the series chronologically now. So far, so great.

i realize i am a week behind (DVR: the cause of--and solution to--all of life's problems!).....................(or is that booze?)
anyhow, Sarah Connor's episode from last week ("Last Voyage of the Jimmy Carter") was fuckin amazing.. top notch stuff.. the kind of episode worthy of the title... (91% perfect.. complaints reside with the "learning" terminator in the lab... and the usual mediocre acting comin in from all directions)..

Re: what are you watching RIGHT NOW.... or somewheres about close to "right now"
Watched Lock Up earlier. This is probably one of the strangest big summer tentpole releases from a major studio ever. I mean, one minute you got a upbeat scene where Stallone and some of the other prisoners are rebuilding a 1965 Mustang in the prison garage and a few minutes later, you get a scene where Donald Sutherland is trying to make Stallone go crazy by flashing bright lights at him every few minutes in a holding cell while having him say his name and number.
Other highlights:
-the prison football scene or Stallone vs. everyone else
-the Mustang joyride scene in the yard
-a character gets killed by having a large weight slammed on his chest (by Sonny Landham, perhaps the only Native American with a heavy Southern accent)
-Tom Sizemore's death scene
-any confrontation between Stallone and Landham
-the climax involving Stallone, Sutherland and an electric chair
In short, this was one crazy movie.

Quantum Of Solace 8/10
I actually liked it better than Casino Royale. The action was great and Daniel Craig didnt get on my nerves as much as he did in the last one. Olga was terrible though and it felt a bit rushed but besides that really good movie.

Dollhouse is definitely keeping me happy with this weeks ep.
Hulu posted the first 3 seasons of Rescue Me, 3 eps in and totally addicted.
Knowing - 6/10 the movie is Signs the lite version, I enjoyed it.
He's Just Not The Into You - 6/10 as always predictable girly movie, alot more thought provoking that the usual though, so good. Its always nice to see Ginnifer Goodwin and Justin Long hook up after their years of sexual tension on Ed. Scarlett Johansen is beginning to make me think of so many other women who basically play themselves in every role, she seems to just be rehashing her selfish flirty seductress character in everything recently.

For me, He's Just Not That Into You was so bad that it soon became a game of seeing who could play the most pointless character in the film. Johansson was the winner by a long shot.
Her characters in Vicky Cristina Barcelona (her and Hall could have traded roles) and The Spirit (her role could have been merged into Mendes's character or Paz Vega could have played dual roles) were equally as pointless.

North by Northwest - 7/10 - The ending ruined it for me. It was such a buzzkill. My favorite scene though was in restaurant with all the choreography and synchronicity.
Vicky Christina Barcelona - 7/10 - The narrator drove me a bit nuts. It was an entertaining film nonetheless.

The Killer Shrews- It doesn't get more terrible than this. But, I guess that's kind of the point.
The Brain that Wouldn't Die- One of the most awesomely horrible movies I've ever had the privlege to see. I'd reccomend this to anyone who wants a good laugh.
You, Me, an Dupree- I love this movie no matter how many times my friends make fun of me for saying so.

The best thing about The Killer Shrews was that recipe for Killer Shrew that the MST3K cast did in Season 4.
I watched Jacob's Ladder earlier. What a crazy and strange movie. But it is a very well done horror/thriller with good direction and acting.

I really rate Jacob's Ladder. Seen it a few times now. One of those movies that as soon as you have finished watching it you want to watch it again. Great performances, and I love that it can be enjoyed on 2 levels. You can just watch it as a horror/thriller purely for entertainment, or it can be one of those movies that make you think about and question one's own views on issues that may or may not be justified, ethical or even just plain old right or wrong.

Re: what are you watching RIGHT NOW.... or somewheres about close to "right now"
Movies I watched this weekend
Watched;
Delicatessan. Very cool and odd. 3 characters from Amelie so it isn't just Tim Burton that recycles his actors... 3.75/5 stars.
Little Children. Very good movie and some great performances. I unerstand the oscar nods for Jackie and Kate. 4/5 stars
Synecdoche, New York. WHAT THE FUCK!!! No seriously, WTF!!?!?!?!?! I can't even rate it really. There was a great message at the end of the film but you have to slog through an hour and a half of retarded, weird, makes no fucking sense film to get to that message. The first 90 minutes 1.5/5 stars. The last 20-30 minutes 4/5 Stars. Hey Charlie, stick to screenwriting because then we get a buffer to your script in the form of a not quite so fucking insane director...

Re: what are you watching RIGHT NOW.... or somewheres about close to "right now"
Yeah Donte, Tim Metzger, who was the lead man (builds the sets) for Synecdoche, New York came and talked to our film class. He's done a bunch of other films too like Burn After Reading, Notorious, Men In Black, Across the Universe and others. He said that was an insane set to work on. Weird ass movie. Actually made me interested in seeing it.
Re: what are you watching RIGHT NOW.... or somewheres about close to "right now"
