This is the beginning of a little writing practice that I am beginning. This is a serial about a Juilliard student who needs money for the high cost of living in New York. So she gets a job as a decoy on a talk show focusing on out-of-control and wayward teenagers. The result becomes six years in the life of hanging out with the craziest and most frightening young people you've ever read about.

Yes, I've been watching a lot of Maury lately (hey Donte you'd really be into Victoria, the nympho who had sex over 300 times by age 15).

Prologue: The Actress

I remember the day that I was accepted into Juilliard. I was sixteen years old and
living in Bloomington, Minnesota. I had just finished high school in only three years mainly because I hated most of the assholes in high school and I basically wanted to get the fuck out. I was a very good student, A-B honor roll, yearbook club, newspaper club, the basics. But the most important thing about my high school career was my drama class. As a freshman, I was in “South Pacific” in the first semester in a supporting role. I auditioned for the lead but the drama teacher had a strict “no freshman in the leads” rule that was bullshit. After that, I played a Lost Boy in “Peter Pan” for Christmas and played Abigail Adams in “1776”. During that summer, I joined a theatre group in Minneapolis and we did “Funny Girl”. Somehow, I nabbed the Fanny Brice role. Believe it or not, I got raves for the performance. My drama teacher found out about my performance as Fanny Brice and he started casting me in all the lead female roles. “Oklahoma!”, “The Goodbye Girl” and “Romeo and Juliet” were the performances in my sophomore year. That summer, I managed to complete my junior year in three months for the summer. Knowing about my talents and intelligence, my teacher started calling all the big drama schools across the nation to show my talents. I had my hearts set on Juilliard in New York City but I was disappointed when they didn’t call after my first play of the year where I played Lady Macbeth. In my second play of my senior year, “My Favorite Year”, more schools came but no Juilliard. So now I decided that I wanted Juilliard to notice my talents, then I’d have to show them myself. I got the teacher, Mr. Weston, to let me write the final play of the year. The concept: a lesbian version of “Chicago”. Something bold, something daring, something that could show my talent and my interest to explore new horizons. The final result was the most successful play in the school’s history, three area television stations doing reports on the play, YouTube footage leaking around the world, one really horny teacher, a lesbian kiss with my best friend, 19-year-old Rebecca Tallarico, hundreds of date offers

and Juilliard knocking my door. After a short meeting with the recruiter, Mr. Hill, I committed to Juilliard

on a drama scholarship. That’s right, Miranda Callahan was to be a Juilliard girl.

So, as a non-writer... What exactly is a serial?

A serial is basically publishing one chapter every few days or so. Another good example would be the old Flash Gordon film series in the 1930's. Those were short serials told over several weekends.
