Pandora Radio
I just found a "widget" called Pandora Radio and I must say that its pretty awesome. I just figured out what a widget is now, and can't completely figure everything out, but this is simple. It creates a radio station based on your personal prefrences. All you do is put in a band that you like and it will play that band and similar music. You can give each individual song a thumbs up (will play similar songs) or thumbs down (will never play that song again) and you can add other bands to tweak their formula a little. Right now I have a Cream + Zeppelin channel which gets them (obviously) plus Deep Purple, the Beatles, the Stones, Hendrix, Sabbath...

Re: Pandora Radio
I had a Michael Jackson station going the other day, as opposed to the Earth, Wind, and Fire station I sometimes use. And it cycled around with "this song has similar characteristics to that one" such that Earth, Wind, and Fire was playing on the Michael Jackson station. Curious.

I listen to a Cream station with Zep and the Allman Bros as the "add variety". The funny thing is, it plays mostly Beatles (older stuff), Hendrix, and Zep. There's also a good amount of CCR and Stones as well.

I'm been trying this...and I really don't like it. You only get five skips per hour TOTAL and there aren't enough lesser-known songs on it.

You can tweak it to your tastes by xing off the tunes you don't like and hitting "add variety," which you can put in a lesser known song in the vein of what you're looking for and (I'm assuming) you will get more lesser known songs.
Pandora is based on the music genome project, which takes songs/bands/people/etc and tears them apart into little pieces (guitar, vocals, whether its bluesy/jazzy/etc) and it plays songs that are like that.
I've actually got three stations right now, the Cream/Zep/Allman one, and AC/DC one, and a Cash one. I'm wondering what other atrists would play if I take the Johnny Cash one and put in some Skynard and Allman Brothers...

Re: Pandora Radio
I have been using Pandora for about 4 years now. I love it. I have found a lot of new music to listen to and an equal number of bands to never listen to again. Damn cool site.

Re: Pandora Radio
We had numerous conversations about Pandora at the old site suprised most of you missed it, its been around for years and is by far the most user friendly online radio out there. Alot of people don't like it because you do have to spend some time really fine tuning your likes and dislikes to get a highly specific station, and even then they still throw in random stuff to try and introduce new things to you... but I find it awesome.
I have discovered soooo many new bands through Pandora I would have never known of otherwise. I have two stations that I've really taken the time to get right and often listen to them upwards of 30 hours a week without getting bored.

The site has finally won me over. I can listen to Scorpions and Ennio Morricone in the same place!
