Recommendations: Alan Rickman
Horrified to learn that my significant other knows Alan Rickman ONLY from the Harry Potter movies, I told her that we're going to have a four or five film 'Best of Alan Rickman' festival. I've decided on three movies:
Die Hard
Robin Hood Prince of Thieves
Galaxy Quest
But am looking for at least one other, possibly two films to add to the all day event. In my mind I'd prefer films where he gets to be either a villain or deliver icy venom-dripping lines of sarcasm, but the focus is really just to show here what a great talent the guy is. Thought I'd open it up for suggestions. Toying with adding 'Quigley Down Under' to the list but I thought I'd see what the Fantaverse could come up with first. All suggestions appreciated!

Truly, Madly, Deeply
Bottle Shock (probably a lesser Rickman role, but it's a recent one and quite good)
Dogma

Good lineup Roodey I would add Dogma to that list and then it would be perfect.

Show her this hilarious video before you start:
I just saw that he played Rasputin... I wonder how that turned out. Here's the link.

Really, all you need is Die Hard.

You have to have Dogma. It was my first taste of Alan Rickman and he will be forever known to me as "The Voice of God"
Re: Recommendations: Alan Rickman
It's gotta be Dogma. He was superb in that.
Also, if you don't mind voice-acting, he was by FAR the best thing about Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy, which was an awesome movie.
Plus there's Love Actually, which the misses will probably like. I'll actually admit to liking that film, excellent cast and good humour.

Agree with Love Actually, Hitchhiker's Guide, and Dogma.
For newer films, Sweeney Todd and Bottle Shock.

Re: Recommendations: Alan Rickman
The first time I remember seeing him (besides Die Hard) was in a really OTT serial killer movie called The January Man, starring Kevin Kline. Alan played a painter named Ed, who also helped Kevin and M.E. Mastrantonio catch the killer.

Only thing you really need is Galaxy Quest.

Gotta back up Buscemi's suggestion of Truly, Madly Deeply. I know that doesn't fit your criteria of villainy or sarcasm but it shows the depth of emotion he can portray and that he can do comedy. And IMHO also showed Minghella's potential.

Rickman and Sir Ian McKellen in the same film? I've got to find this one!

I saw the Rasputin film with Rickman last year in my history class. It was pretty decent.

I've heard Nobel Son is great, but haven't seen it myself. Would highly recommend Bottle Shock, Love Actually is always good, and I have a big weakness for him in Sense & Sensibility.

My thanks to you all for the great suggestions. I'll give her the choice of 'Bottle Shock,' 'Love Actually' and 'Dogma' to finish off the set. I'm betting she goes with #2, lol

Nobel Son was really good...and I think me and my friend were the only two in the world who saw it, which makes it that much cooler...

It never came to theatres here so I saw it on DVD. I can't understand why critics hated it so much but then hailed things like Rachel Getting Married and The Reader.
