Keyser Soze wrote:Frank McCourt, Pulitzer Prize winning author of Angela's Ashes, has passed away at the age of 78. For those of you that listen to/watch Mike and Mike in the morning on ESPN, Frank was also Mike Greenberg's high school English teacher
That's too bad. I've actually seen the film (haven't read the book yet) and it seems like he had a really hard childhood. May he RIP.
Re: Obituaries
From what Mike Greenberg said this morning, Frank was an English teach for 30 years who retired to pursue writing. To have your first book win the Pulitzer is pretty damn impressive.

John Hughes, legendary director of 80's teen movies, has passed. Share your favorite Hughes movie here.

I'm a big fan of Planes Trains and Automobiles although Ferris was a classic.

Re: Obituaries
Probably Planes, Trains, but a big mention should be made for his writing also, he did write Home Alone among many others, after all.

I listed sixteen John Hughes titles in the "RIP John Hughes" thread. Damn, he was prolific.

Re: Obituaries
I never realized he had written so many movies. I only associated him with all those great 80's movies. Thanks for the good times John.
I have to go with The Breakfast Club. One of my favorite 80's movies though Uncle Buck and Ferris are on that list also.
As a writer, he wrote National Lampoons Vacation, Euro, and Xmas vacations. WOW!
He wrote Dutch?! I loved that fucking movie.
We really did lose a great one...

Re: Obituaries
I don't know who he is. Did he happen to die in the morning? Cause that would make it REALLY weird.

They said he was covered in piles of drugs (I exaggerate) so I wonder if the crash has shaken him so badly that he just fell off the wagon and couldn't get back on again...

Re: Obituaries
Blink-182 were in tears over this and payed him a very nice tribute.
Edit: They actually cancelled their show tonight, I'm lucky they even played when I saw them.

Re: Obituaries
The only thing that I know about DJ AM was that he had a channel on AOL Radio. It had a nice mix of New Wave, old school rap and newer dance tracks.

Re: Obituaries
Well, i couldn't give two shits about DJ AM, but I do find this highly ironic, because there was an article on the front page when I was logging into my e-mail a couple days ago with an interview of him saying how the plane crash had made him really appreciate being alive.

Yeah and apparently he appreciated a good crack pipe too. Sorry I have zero sympathy for rich crackhead pill poppers. To quote, "Good riddance to bad rubbish."
Re: Obituaries
Larry Gelbart, the TV and movie writer and playwright, has died from cancer at age 81.
He is mostly known for his work on M*A*S*H, as well as writing the scripts for Oh God! and Tootsie.
M*A*S*H had some of the best writing of any show ever. Larry is the main reason. Rest in peace, sir.

Re: Obituaries
Jim Carroll, writer of one of the best memoirs ever written (The Basketball Diaries), has passed away at the age of 60. He died of a heart attack at his home in Manhattan.
He was also a musician and as mentioned in his memoir, a highly regarded high school basketball player. He is survived by his brother and will be missed dearly.

And now Patrick Swayze has also passed away, according to TMZ, after his long battle with pancreatic cancer. He was 57.
