hahaha

Tracking shmacking. Smile

Let's all discuss our favorite racist/stereotyped character's in movies. One of mine is Mr. Miyagi. The kindly older Japanese guy who is a martial arts master. Cause every Japanese guy is a martial artist right? That is racist, it just isn't a negative racist stereotype but is still a stereotype. Yet Pat Morita got an Oscar nod.

Or how about Tony Montana, the psycho drug crazed Cuban drug lord. Played by an Italian-American born in New York. That is racist also isn't it? Might as well put a white guy in "Brown Face" and have him sneer and snarl at the camera. Caricature in action.

Yet it sits at #172 on IMDB Top 250.

I am not saying that I don't think these Twins on Transformers 2 are racist (since I have not seen the movie I cannot yet say for sure), just that it isn't anything new in movies and that there are bigger things to worry about.

Like the fact that our world is so bad that people have paid roughly 160 Million dollars in a few days to escape from the world to watch giant robots fight in slo mo. On a side note, how many homeless people could be fed in the world for 160 Million dollars?

I am indicting myself along with the rest of us since I plan on paying my 9 bucks to see Transformers and will not in fact be buying a homeless guy a meal. Neutral

Don't worry. We can feed the homeless with all the money that we saved by not seeing Miss March.

Yeah but there isn't nearly the dough in a shitty movie. The homeless got the shaft on that deal. Actually they got the shaft on a lot of deals. That is why some of them are homeless. I assume some of them are drug addicts and alcholics too. (Or is that a stereotype? LOL)

The Whitest Kids U'Know will be living on sidewalks and streets someday. And their eight or nine fans won't give a damn.

Actuals are in. And the weekend was down about $3 million from expected, but the total only went down $1 million and was still over $200 million. How did this happen? Look at Wednesday and Thursday. They rose a lot from before, and they were actuals before. According to thenumbers.com, they added Puerto Rico's numbers to the Wednesday and Thursday numbers to push it over $200 million. And Star Trek had an unusually high drop on Sunday which indicates Paramount changing the numbers.

Well, it seems we all agree that the Twins are racially insensitive. It's not the first time, and yes, all stereotypes have a grain of truth at the heart of them.

My BIG problem was the "we don't read" line they had, and then Shia LaBeouf saying "Well, if you guys can't read, we need to find someone who can". It wasn't neccessary, it did nothing for the movie, it felt like it was only there to hurt. It wasn't supposed to be funny because nobody laughed in either of the sold out shows I went to. It seemed like it took the whole audience out of the movie.

Just a thought, but Banks has made an awful big fuss about the racial insensitivity of the twins, then I look at his signature that says "The Eyes are like the Nipples of the face" and well, that doesn't scream sexual equality very much to me.... but I guess since that's only against women it doesn't matter.... Just saying...

Bank's quote was by a woman, in a movie produced by a woman, from a script written by women. Yeah, that totally screams sexism.

So that's like if I say the word "nigga" its racist but if a black person says its fine. Gotcha, thanks for clearing that up. Or maybe its just that some people can have a sense of humor about their stereotypes like the people involved in that movie. I was merely pointing it out. Basically you are saying that if Michael Bay were black and his writers and voice actors were black, they'd be entirely off the hook? Something tells me you don't believe that.

No, but writers talking about their own experience in a humorous fashion is called satire, which is far different than gross caricatures of one culture written by another culture to make fun and generate cheap laughs.

Re: Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen Tracking

Post by Donte77 on Tue Jun 30, 2009 7:18 pm

As I said, I haven't seen the movie so I am only going by what has been said here and from what I have read online. I agree with Banksy that the line he just quoted was absolutely appalling and unnecessary. But it doesn't change my stand that we can't expect Bay to produce brilliant writing. When he said "We didn't really have dialogue written for the characters" I almost believe him because he is that bad of a filmmaker. They spent months on the CGI and about 5 hours writing the dialogue. That is why there is a lot of slo mo running and screaming.

Also why is nobody crucifying Reno Wilson. Shouldn't he have maybe mentioned to the film crew that the dialogue is very "Al Jolson" and either refused to do it or had them change it? He did the movie for the paycheck and either didn't notice the racist undertones, which is bad, or didn't care and just wanted a paycheck, which is worse.

That doesn't justify the racism, it just underlines that Bay is a lazy filmmaker who relies entirely on big explosions and slo mo to tell a story. Whether he is racist or not is besides the point that he makes bad, albeit pretty, movies. It just made the movie worse and that makes me mad. I am not even that excited to see the movie anymore. I will just want to find Bay in an alley and kick his ass for ruining one of my childhood toys.

Racism is terrible but with all the hate in the world it is understandable that it bleeds into our entertainment. It is unfortunate that this is so, but I understand why it happens. Hate is all most of us know.

Enough of that, I want to be in a good mood today. Smile

Thanks for the kudos guys. I was just in a mood this month. And since NicoSwedge isn't around much I had to write a diatribe in his honor. Smile Glad you all enjoyed it. I'll be here all week, two shows a night.

I think I took Ice Age on about half my slates. I am really betting on it to pull in 200-230 Mil. Public Enemies I actually put on my BK slate as a gamble. I think it will do pretty well in Ultimates but I think its BO pull will be around 80-100 tops.

Our newspaper revied Public Enemies this morning because it mu topen at midnight. They gave it 3 out of 4, and said it actually needed to be longer than its 140 minutes as it felt like they tried to cram too much into too short of a period and ended up leaving a few things undeveloped.
