Review is in for Terminator from our local newspaper. 2/5. Man, this is not looking good at this point.

Yep, I jumped off the T4 bandwagon on all slates... It feels way too much like Wolverine for my tastes.

I kept T4 on the slates that i had, although i didnt have it on a lot of slates, i think its still a better pick than NatM. Even if NatM takes the weekend it'll have bigger drops, it has Up next week, then Land of the Lost the week after, Then Imagine That the week after that. Although UP will be its biggest competitor, I think it'll still lose some business to the other two too.

That's not too bad, Star Treks midnights were at 4M.

Dance Flick has the best reviews of any movie coming out this weekend.

I don't get the hate for Terminator at all. I thought it was great.
Re: The most competitive weekend of the summer...maybe ever
Terminator was average. The idea is there but it just doesn't to make a successful transition to the screen. I would have preferred it had they made it the final film and simply focused on John and Kyle before Kyle went to 1984.
Also, the auditorium (at a 3:50 pm show) was about 40% full.

I just checked RT. I dont know what it was at yesterday, but it's the lowest of the three opening wide this weekend right now, so we can all relax, false alarm

It got the worst reveiw of any of the three in the Post-Gazette for this weekend. NATM 2.5 Terminator 2 Dance Flick 1.5. These are out of 5
Re: The most competitive weekend of the summer...maybe ever
Terminator 13.3 million on its Thursday opening day.
http://www.hollywoodreporter.com/hr/content_display/news/e3i9659c5aa3ebf2806bfb75b9ac7215824
That might be a good thing as the article states, since it still leaves breathing space for a very big Friday & helps stretch out its 5 day weekend.
We're at 16.3 million prior to the 4 day weekend. 100 million for the 5 day weekend seems out of reach considering the poor critical reaction. But a $70-75 million haul for the 4 day can still happen looking at a 90 million 5 day weekend.

As a comparison Indy 4 had a Pirates: AWE had 13M, Indy 4 had 25M, and Lost World got 2M,

Re: The most competitive weekend of the summer...maybe ever
thats not right...potc made 13 million from showings starting at 7pm. It is not a good comparison...a correct one is the one with indiana jones. And indiana jones was a much more family oriented film and is also a poor comparison as to how Terminator will play out.
Teens are still in school so its friday should still see about 18 million, but that wont get it anywhere near a 100million 5 day. Also its already being reported at boxoffice.com that NATM2 has already pulled ahead of salvation in online ticket sales by about 11%, it is going to win the weekend

Re: The most competitive weekend of the summer...maybe ever
NATM's imdb isn't looking great right now (sub 6), whereas Term. is at 8.0 w/ over 4k votes. (I'm trying to think on the bright side for all of us w/ Term. on our slates! )
It will be interesting to see how the PTA shakes out between the 2 since NATM is playing in 616 more theaters.
Can't wait for the weekend actuals!

i think terminator still has a good shot at winning the weekend. natm opened in my theater this weekend which is never a great sign (unless its christmas) and today it did WAY less than we were expecting. all day it probably only did 450 people. on a side not dance flick did respectable bringing in about 90 people most of which were early teens which really shouldnt be seeing this movie. if you'ev seen it you know which part i'm talking about.

Re: The most competitive weekend of the summer...maybe ever
Here are Mase's early projections:
Terminator Salvation-$15.5M Fri/$71.3M 5-day
Night At The Museum 2-$14.5M Fri/$64M 4-day
Star Trek-$6.3M Fri/$31M 4-day
Angels and Demons-$6.4M Fri/$28.1M 4-day
Dance Flick-$3.8M Fri/$14M 4-day
Despite these early numbers, I expect Night At The Museum to still be Number One. The reason being that Night At The Museum is a Saturday and Sunday movie rather than a Friday movie. It will jump on Saturday while Terminator will probably drop.
Oh wait, I didn't pay attention to that 5-day marker. Mase seems to agree with me. Minus that first day, he has Terminator doing $57.8 million for the weekend and losing to Night At The Museum.

Re: The most competitive weekend of the summer...maybe ever
Glad I didn't take any of them. Up should clean house next week. Drag Me to Hell may even come in at #2 or #3.
Re: The most competitive weekend of the summer...maybe ever
If those films want to clean up house, they had better pick up tracking-wise.
Plus, it's only Friday of a 4 day weekend. I think it's a bit early to be playing Taps.
EDIT: I wonder why Finke never released FRI numbers. On her blog, there are some irregularities between Fox's lowballing and what rival studios think. Anyways, off to see NATM 2 in Imax.
