Hatchet 3 / 10

Despite a handful of good laughs, and a couple memorable moments--this movie was just plain BAD. It reeked of half-baked film-school ideas. Yes, it's tongue-in-cheek, but it came off much more gimmicky and forced than satirical. I had high hopes because I had read a couple reviews that described it in the same way I describe Severance. But the movies are nothing alike. For as ridiculously over-the-top Severance is, Hatchet makes it look subtle. Hatchet 2 is already greenlit--ugh.

GO SEE SEVERANCE!

I just finished re-watching the mammoth ROOTS miniseries. Is it as good as I remembered from when I was a kid? Maybe.

Have actually watched a lot recently.

The Punisher 8/10

Good Stuff. Thomas Jane was not nearly as bad as i had heard he was. Had a good enough story and the action was really well done.

Hancock 8/10
Didn't really understand all the really negative buzz behind this one. I really liked it. I thought Smith was perfect in the role and i wasnt that thrown off by the last 30 min where it becomes darker.

Enchanted 1/10

Fucking terrible got tricked into watching this it was awful.

Journey To The Center Of The Earth 7/10
Surprsingly Pretty Good. Didnt have high hopes for it at all but it was a fun little movie

and lastly i started to Watch Lock Stock and Two Smoking Barrells i got a half hour through and then my Xbox live disconnected so i have to go back to my instant netflix queue and watch that one.

I caught up on the two Thursday TV shows I missed this week: The Office and 30 Rock. I also saw 'Do the Right Thing' recently -- now I understand where the Family Guy line about "as natural as a white man's dialogue in a Spike Lee movie" comes from.

Enchanted to me was a two and a half star film but I didn't like the ending. I felt that Giselle should have gone back to the animated world especially since Idina Menzel's character wasn't even a bad character and was actually nice to Patrick Dempsey's character. Plus Giselle totally would have been lost in the real world.

And tranny, did you happen to watch the director's cut of Hancock? Because that's supposed to change the look of the film entirely.

According to Netflix, I have seen the following films recently

1776 - I saw it for "research." Anyways, it's long as heel but it still is kind of entertaining. 6/10
Finding Nemo - too formulaic and boring 3/10
Harry Potter 1 - They left out some scenes i really liked from the book and totally unnecessarily reinvented the Dragon storyline but int he end I was entertained. 7/10
Encounters At The End of the World - Pretty good visuals, story is just kind of there though - 6/10
Sukiyaki Western Django - 2/10 Tarantino should stick to directing. Story is a mess. I fell asleep.

I watched Accepted on Comedy Central, and surprisingly did not find Jonah Hill as insufferably annoying as usual.

I remember seeing Accepted at a drive-in when it first came out. It was the bottom half of a double bill with Invincible.

I was going to go to a special showing of Labyrinth today and after I bought my ticket, the projector broke and the showing was canceled. I ended up getting my $2.50 back.

Watched "12 Monkeys" again yesterday. Great film. Can you tell me why I thought that Seth Green was in it? Is there another movie where he plays an over-the-top environmentalist type?

Kung Fu Panda, 6/10. was good, but nothing unique.

Pans Labyrenth, 8/10. saw it for the 3rd time. its not as shocking as the first time i saw it, SPOILER, stop reading if ya dont want to know>>>

but i love the aspect of not knowing whether, its all in her head or if its real. its up for interpretation.

Well, I was desperate to go see something this weekend, and our friends won us over with Quantum Of Solace. It was....ok. I'm sure there was a story somewhere below all the explosions. Mark Kermode was spot on with his review in that it seemed like the second unit director had actually taken hold of the reigns from Marc Forster, as it didn't really hold anything to which I thought he would have brought to a Bond movie. It was just explosion after explosion, starting from the opening scene and never stopping for breath. Great if you like that kind of thing, but I like some substance to my movies, and this just didn't seem to have it. 6/10

I finally got around to watching Hostel. (I have to stop prefacing my movie ratings with that - I'll just state now that I'm always years behind).
I know it has it's detractors and I get that, but I am a horror fan and therefore love a good well made horror (as opposed to shite trite without a fright like the recent Prom Night). 9/10

You and me both. Living on the wrong side of the world certainly does have its disadvantages. On the flip side it is summer now. sunny

Just finished watching Dear Zachary. The only thing I knew was the short synopsis and super rating on IMDb. Hadn't read a review or investigated the story, but was prepared for "some" emotional tugs. I feel like someone has kicked me in the pills. I was in no way prepared for what had transpired. The doc- has some ametuerish qualities that almost seem appropriate as it humanizes the people involved. I guess all docs do that, but this one makes you feel like you are a part of this family and therefore victimizes you the viewer. Worth the view. 8/10

I liked Hostel too, just remember to not waste your time on the shitty sequel.

Right now, I'm watching Bedazzled (2000) for the millionth time in my life. I don't know what happened to Elizabeth Hurley but she's hot enough, has some good comedic timing, and a sexy as hell accent. Just look at Austion Powers and Serving Sara (well, not so much that last one...).

Last night we watched Iron Man again. I think I actually appreciated it a little more than the last viewing, and I was very impressed by that. This is going to be high up on my Favourite Movies Of The Year list. Speaking of which, I think I should start compiling it....

Playing by Heart - ensemble cast with interweaving tales dealing with love in LA, made in the late 90s - it's a total girl movie and pretty sad, but thoroughly enjoyable. Jon Stewart is great! I really wish he was in more movies.

Watched Son of Rambow and Snatch last night (as well as Justice League New Frontiers).

Son of Rambow was just about the cutest coolest movie I have seen in ages. I loved it. It really captures that adolescent friendship and loneliness. Great movie 9/10
Snatch was for the wife's benefit as she has never watched it. I think she saw Lock Stock... with me already. She loved it.

I went crazy and bought seven movies on dvd yesterday. First one was 'Mortal Kombat' which keeps it's sentimental place in my heart. Moving on to the sequel which, if memory serves, was disappointing for it's lack of Lambert. Perhaps time has changed my mind.
