Star Trek is doing FANTASTIC! Only a 42.8% drop. It rose 55.5% on Saturday and was #1 for the day. Also excellent for GoGP, 17 Again, and MvA. Actually, it was great for all of the holdovers. Next weekend should be really interesting and hopefully Star Trek can hold strong despite losing its IMAX screens and its family audience and having Terminator Salvation to compete with.

Yep... NATM2 and T4 pretty much cuts into Star Trek's entire audience. Wonder how big of a drop it'll be next weekend?

Star Trek this weekend has surpass what I thought it'd do in its lifetime.

I hope that Terminator and NatM kill it next week. Less than 50% drop? Damn. Those excellent reviews are making the difference (and while I thought it was alright, I certainly don't get this manufactured hype.)

Either T4 falls flat on its face (doubtful) or Star Trek is in for a pretty steep drop due to its competition. This should bode well for Angels and Demons, which has more of the adult audience going for it, and should have a stronger hold than Star Trek.

Yeah, Star Trek will have a nice sized drop, but it'll still do fine.

I don't see why. Star Trek is having amazing word of mouth that is being very effective (obviously) and just had a 42.8% second weekend drop which is freaking unheard of. Angels and Demons on the other hand is considered an OK movie and will not survive its second weekend competition of Terminator Salvation. Star Trek will be over Angels and Demons next weekend for sure.

MvA is up to $190 million. Think it will break $200?

Because J.I., Angels and Demons and Terminator Salvation are not in the same target market. Star Trek is in the exact same market as T4. Word of mouth can only carry a movie so far when there is this much direct competition. Plus its losing all the family trips to Night at the Museum. Competition matters.

I think it will limp over 200M, it did better this weekend than expected and with the holiday weekend next week it should help.

You are right Geez. Families gave Star Trek a 55% increase on Saturday after a disappointing Friday. Families also have kept MvA, 17 Again, Wolverine, Earth and Hannah Montana afloat when they should all be long dead. Now they got what they've been waiting for. An event film directed right to them that has a brand name over a long holiday weeekend. I can just see the cash registers ringing. bom

Yeah and they are advertising the fuck out of it too. Even on channels that I watch, where I rarely get the family advertising. Its going to be big. I still think it will lose out to Terminator though, I can't change my mind now. T4 is just as much of an event film for the 13-30 male side of the coin. It just better be good, that's all I have to say.

Star Trek increased with the actuals and was only $3 million behind Angels and Demons.

Anyway, you all say that Star Trek will fall hard, but I bet you were thinking that last weekend. It fell 42%. That hasn't happened for a movie that opened over $75 million since Shrek 2. AND its a four day weekend. If people are hearing constantly about Star Trek, they're not just going to see T4 this weekend, they will check out Star Trek first.

Actually no, I thought star Trek would hold well, falling around 50%. It did better than I expected. That was its hold facing one new film. Lets see how it holds when we throw two more monsters into the ring. If it doesn't fall over 50% this time, I'd be shocked.

But I have been wrong before, I know its hard to believe, but it does happen.
