Jai Ho! The Slumdog Millionaire Club (OVER Juno Club)
This club is for all the fans of the movie Slumdog Millionaire. Here are the stipulations: 2nd highest domestic gross for a Fox Searchlight distributed film and an Oscar nomination for Best Picture and Danny Boyle. Being the first to call the film since I first heard about it, I am more then thrilled at it's success. When it finally goes really wide near the end January, I feel we will see it's full potential. Also, make sure to check out the soundtrack on Itunes or Amazon. Finally, this club will be updated when to reflect current events. So stay tuned.

It looks like it could get to $100 million because of how its doing, but what's weird is that mainstream America is not seeing this movie at all it feels like.

You're right, its just that JackO has seen the film 2.5 million times.
Re: Jai Ho! The Slumdog Millionaire Club (OVER Juno Club)
What do you mean mainstream america isnt seeing it? It's only opened in 612 theaters so far, and its already at $29M

Mainstream America isn't seeing it because it's not a mainstream film. While they are busy seeing Marley and Me and Bride Wars, the arthouse fans and Indian-Americans are helping the film get noticed. Even if it gets nominated for Best Picture, mainstream America still won't see it. That's just the way things are.

Slumdog Millionaire is not a mainstream film? If it wasn't then the folks at IMDB would lay down the hammer of ignorance like they do with most Tyler Perry projects. But it currently sits at an 8.7 with over 19,000 votes and currently sits at #42 on the Top 250 films.

No guys, mainstream America isn't seeing it because clearly JackO has bought every ticket. Come on, that is the only logical explanation. And he only shares his tickets with arthouse fans and Indian-Americans.
Re: Jai Ho! The Slumdog Millionaire Club (OVER Juno Club)
I'll join the club without even seeing it. I adore everything, absolutely everything (including The Beach and A Life Less Ordinary) that Boyle has done and know this will be amazing.

And this week it declines slightly, down to 601 screens. Think it'll expand any more? Maybe once the Oscar noms come out?

Maybe to 1,000 theatres. Any more and they would probably be pushing it. The Wrestler will be Fox Searchlight's film with the big expansions, Oscars or no Oscars, since it appeals more to mainstream America (wrestling, a name cast, top American indie director who will be remaking a famous film from the 80's soon).

Re: Jai Ho! The Slumdog Millionaire Club (OVER Juno Club)
From what I've heard, it goes wide the end of this month. Count me in the club as I have it as the 2nd best movie I saw in 2008. Nothing was going to beat Dark Knight. Would love to see it clean up with some Golden Globe wins.

Actually looking at the release schedule straight from the Fox Searchlight website, that doesn't seem to be the case. The widest release for Fox Searchlight in January will probably be Notorious.

If Slumdog wins any Golden Globes and gets nominated for Oscar, it'll definitely expand wider

I guess the Best Screenplay award should be shrugged off too

I think I found a first: Best Picture in a Musical or Comedy going to a film that wasn't even funny or musical to begin with (Vicky Cristina Barcelona, the most overrated film of 2008).

I wanted Burn After Reading or In Bruges to win, but alas, it was not meant to be.
Also, should we ignore the Best Director award for Danny Boyle, too?

Re: Jai Ho! The Slumdog Millionaire Club (OVER Juno Club)
I'm really happy Vicky Cristina Barcelona won the award. It was one of my favorites for the year, and brilliantly done. I'm also really juiced that Kate Winslet won for both categories! I was hoping it would happen, since both roles were better than other acting roles that came out this year, but was scared that people wouldn't want to give the same person two awards in one night...

With all the buzz for Anne Hathaway, I'm surprised Kate Winslet beat her out.

I would have joined this club, but it would have been nice to know exactly how much money would make it the second highest Fox Searchlight release, as I have no idea.

The buzz for Hathaway was strong, and after seeing Rachel Getting Married in Oct. I thought she would take it...then I saw Revolutionary Road...
