Re: Forum Name Change..
i definitely agree that the name needs to be changed pronto.. so, let's pool our collective brilliance and get it done.. here are some of the candidates thus far:
The Filmaverse
The Ultimate Movie Box Office Challenge
The Fantasy Box Office Challenge
Film Rotisserie: The Fantasy Box Office Game
Box Office CEO
Chicken FuckersUnanimous Anonymous
The Movie ROTO Club
The Movie Game (although, i just checked and some douche just registered the url, so it might be confusing)
and Geezer's favorite:
Super Ultimate X-Treme Cinema Fantastic Fest 2.0: Revenge of the Awesome
i say we give everyone another day or so to submit ideas, then we take it to a vote.. in my opinion, it really boils down to how long-term of a plan we want.. for short-term purposes (ie. to get a few new people to play the game and contribute to discussion now), i agree that we should stick with the SIMPLEST, most generic, and most straight-forward title possible.. however, if we are looking farther down the road--to a point where, POSSIBLY, one (or several) of us might want to take this idea to the next level by making the game semi-automated and maybe even viewing it as a potential business platform, then we should definitely come up with something unique (yet descriptive).. and we should do it now.. if there's ANY possibility of this ever becoming a professional site (i'm looking at you Barca and Shryke), establishing a presence now (with a memorable-but-novel name) would be a huge step in the right direction...
and for those who honestly just don't give a shit--who cares what we name it?

Re: Forum Name Change..
I will say this; consider this forum a dry run. If it starts working out well things could go further. I've got some of the necessary skills needed to create a website, but unfortunately i have no idea how to get the FM code, or a similar one, i am trying in that aspect though.
So that last paragraph you wrote is why we need a REAL name, the 'generic' BOX OFFICE GAME can come later on in the description, but not the name.
Which is why i am leaning towards more original and non-bland names like The Filmaverse and Rotisserie.

Re: Forum Name Change..
okay, what if its proper name was "The Film Rotisserie".. but we called it Film Roto for short (which would eliminate the potential problem of someone not knowing how to spell rotisserie).. and the website could be FROTO.forumotion.net (or f-roto.net)--and then, over time, people would just refer to it as "Froto" (pronounced like "Frodo" a la Lord of the Rings).. that would be mildly clever, and it would entertain film nerds worldwide

How about infusing some film jargon into the games?

good point.. i guess that means we have two separate issues to discuss.. first, the title.. and second, the subtitle--which, so far, is looking like it will be some variation on (The) (Ultimate) (Fantasy) (Box-Office / Movie) (Game / Challenge)we need a REAL name, the 'generic' BOX OFFICE GAME can come later on in the description, but not the name.

Actually, I meant I and you as a whole. For example, any of us could be Barack Obama and any of us could be Sarah Palin.
Meanwhile Becs has to be Bristol Palin, the Juno of 2008.

Why do I have to be Bristol Palin? I don't even like kids.. plus, wasn't Juno the Juno of 2008? (it came out only like a week before the year started...). I would much rather be snarky Ellen Page.

I kinda like Box Office CEO and it looks like www.boxofficeceo.com is not taken.
Re: Forum Name Change..
Box Office CEO sounds way too much like an informative website. Like another Box Office Mojo. Would any of us REALLY be interested in that much upkeep?
Re: Forum Name Change..
That reminded me of a line from an episode of the dilbert cartoon when they're trying to come up with a new product for their company, but instead of making the product first they come up with the name first and then try to make a product based on the name.
"How about Socrates?"- Dilbert
"That's good. But do any of us know how to build cars?"- Boss
"It doesn't necessarily have to be a car."- Dilbert
"Then why would we give it a name for a car?"- Boss
Oh man, I love Dilbert.

We just need a name. Right now the two options are Filmaverse and Chicken Cooker :p
This is why I initially thought of throwing "The Fantaverse Presents" in front of it. However, I disagree with your statement. I thing The Ultimate Box Office Fantasy Challenge is a name in itself. If anything comes before it, I say we stick with the Fantaverse in it, because that is who we are. It gives the originals around here a meaning. It has a story behind it. At least to me, its something special and unique to our little corner of cyberspace. So if we have to name it something, that is what I would want to go with. But the reason I put the word Challenge at the end of my title is because that is the word that makes it a title in itself. I think it works on its own.
Re: Forum Name Change..
I feel like we are way overcomplicating, why can't we just name it something simple, cheesy and uttlerly cliche like Movie Moguls, Movie Madness, Flick Pick... personally I like the fantaverse

Actually, I think Barca came up with the idea from an Empire game last year, where you had to guess the movie behind each poster letter.

Exactly. I even got the letters from there as well.
