It seems a few of us play the game, so we might as well have a topic about it.

After yesterdays triumph i went in for round two, and it was going beautifully until this happened:

Had KK. One person small-raised before me. I re-raised to 4xbig blind. I get two callers.

Flop comes up 3s, 6h, Jd.

Perfect. No Ace, no flop, no straight in sight..

I raise the pot, one guy calls, the other goes all in. I call, the other dude folds.

He flips them over and he has AK off suit.

Turn = Q
River = 10

He hits the ****ing straight.

May he burn in hell

Was going very good up till that point, i was third and there were only 112 people left, but the **** who called me was 6th and pretty much kicked me out.

I found a new game on Pokerstars that's fun. It's a Korean form of poker called Badugi. I'm pretty decent at it considering I've only played it a couple of months. The goal is to have the best Badugi hand, which means a hand where the most suits are represented, no duplicate numbers, and the lowest one.

Any 4 card Badugi beats a 3 card Badugi. Any 3 card beats a 2 card. And any 2 card beats a 1 card (though I have never seen a 1 card Badugi). The best hand possible is A234 representing all 4 suits.

Anyways, I've had a lot of fun playing Badugi, HORSE, Omaha, Texas, and Razz. I've won three round 2 entries so far this week and hopefully I can get some starter capital tomorrow in that round 2.

Hey, Barca, with all that cash you made, get a Fantaverse Freeroll going!

That's actually not a half bad idea. I will see if that's possible to set up. Will need alot more than three people to be interested in it (me, you, shryke) if it's going to happen.

I've been meaning to ask you, Barca... what is it about CD Poker that makes it better than the others? Are your odds of winning really that much better, or is it just luck?

And you want frustrating? Down to two tables, and my stack is getting smaller by the moment...

Finally, I get pockets sixes, and push all in. I get one caller, a guy with just a little bit more than me. Turns out he has pocket fives.

Flop comes A, 2, 3. Bet you can't guess what came on the turn. (Yup, a four.)

I call that one "taking it from behind." Lucky bastard...

Neither. The multi-table tournaments have less players, and they (the players) tend to be better than the ones at PokerStars.. IE: while you get the occasional fish, mostly it's good play. While the cash prizes are less, it's easier to win them.

Plus i really like the layout. Just easy to use and maneuver.

i play some free online poker.. i avoid the sites that require you to enter credit card info--mostly because i don't want the local sheriff to put me in the stockades for a week, but also because i don't want to stupidly lose my last $32.. (i'm saving that for whisky and queso!)

I'm at Full Tilt, not PokerStars. But I imagine it's the same at either place. I'll give CDPoker a try in the next couple weeks, as I'm hella fed up with FTP at the moment.

Perhaps it's just me whining, but I get so frustrated when it only gives me one playable hand in every twenty, and in those cases someone always has a higher pocket pair, or has me outkicked by one, etc. Plus the hugest pots seem to go to whoever is the "big stack" 75% of the time, and usually that person has the weakest hand going in. I'm sick of it.

I haven't been able to play as much between classes and homework and the girlfriend. I used to play every day. My buddy bought me into the Sunday million on Pokerstars a few weeks ago and I cashed in it, made 90 bucks that I split with him. It was intense. I'm pretty proud of it. Its the biggest event they run basically, for those who don't play on there. $216 entry, over 7000 players.

I just lost $20 on one hand! It's all good though, i'm up $50 in the past two hours.

Anyway:

It's a cash table, blinds are 10c/20c. I was small blind. 6 people playing.

It goes like this:

Position 1 = fold
Position 2 = raise to .60c
Position 3 = call
Position 4 = fold
Position 5 (me) = raise to $2
Position 6 (big blind) = call

Position 2 = all in for $3.20
Position 3 = fold
Position 5 (me) = call
Position 6 (big blind) = call
---

Now, i had KK.

The flop comes up: 6d, Qh, 3d.

I bet $2
The guy on big blind goes all in for roughly $15.
I call.

He has KJd and is chasing the flush for all the money he has. On the river a diamond hits! What a knob.

Would have murdered someone if i wasn't having a good session.

That's actually not a bad play. You were only about 62% to win after the flop. There are much, much worse beats than someone going after a flush and hitting. Certainly not worth killing someone over. I've had more 2 outers on the river hit against me than I can count, so this wouldn't even phase me.

In a tournament this is OK play, on a cash table for all you have it's just stupid. Especially when you didn't hit anything. For example, i can understand if he did that after hitting the K or the J, or even if there was a straight draw in it for him as well, but to chase a flush and NOTHING else when you don't even have the Ace is just very wrong. He should have called/min raised to see the turn.

Chances of hitting a flush with a flush draw on the flop = 30% (roughly)

Its closer to 35%, and its called gambling for a reason. I'm just saying that someone hitting a flush draw isn't even a big suck out. Its not like you had KK and he had QQ and hit a Q on the river, not that would be something to complain about. Sure, it was a risk on his part, but online sights always seem to pay off the player coming from behind. Try winning a coin flip with the under pair, it just never happens unless you hit trips. Plus I'm sure its not "All he had." I'm sure it was pennies to him if he is making that call.

1. I never said it was a suckout or a bad beat.
2. It was all he had on the table, he later lost the whole amount (most of it back to me mind you).
3. I was annoyed not because of his odds, but because of how he played it.
4. I was more annoyed because to be totally honest i moved pokerrooms to try and escape this kind of play.
5. I was even more annoyed because he was a bad player, and it wasn't the first time he had gone fishing.
6. I was also annoyed because it hit on the river, i hate when what you want hits on the river.
7. I was mostly annoyed because it lost me $20 which put a halt to a very good session i was having.

Also.. my QQ lost to 10-10 like 2 minutes ago. Thank god i didn't put too much into that one though (the all in guy had $2.83). But i'm nowhere near as pissed as the other play. I guess it's all about how much you lose eh?

Yeah, I guess it is, which is why I completely avoid cash games altogether. They tend to piss you off a whole lot more than tournaments. I was merely saying that I don't necessarily disagree with the way he played it. He knew he needed to hit that diamond to win the hand, and was willing to take his one in three chances. There are a lot of dumber plays I have seen. Like someone calling off all of their chips with bottom pair, then hitting trips when you had top pair or something. At least he knew he was drawing to a winning hand, and in his mind, you probably were pushing with at best a pair of queens. In that scenario, he has 3 more outs, and his chances become about 50/50. I personally would have been more mad about the 10 10 beating my QQ, but you are right, it is all about how much you lose in the hand.

And no matter where you go, you will never escape bad play. No way. The donkeys will always find you. This play however, was not one of a donkey, just one of an agressive, risk taking style of player.

Last night I flopped a king-high club flush, with J-8-7 on the board.

I pushed all in, and a guy with roughly 1.5 times my stack calls with only a pair of eights.

Turn - 8 of hearts
River - 7 of spades

So my club flush loses to a runner-runner boat. Man, I hate Full Tilt when that shit happens. But less so than someone who would call an all-in for 3/4 of his stack with only middle pair.

funny how differently people would describe the exact same hand depending on whether it was theirs or their opponents.. seems like "luck" is always the deciding factor in other people's success, while it's purely "skill" and "odds" when it's yourself rakin' in the dough..

(i'm just as guilty of it as anyone)

re-read my post.. i'm not saying there isn't skill in poker.. my point is how differently people perceive the game based on their own standing at that moment.. it just seems like there's very little objectivity when you have a vested interest in the outcome

btw, we should all play a tournament on triplejack (totally free, just-for-fun site.. though you can win prizes).. i can set up a private tourney for just us guys

What POes me is when I make a bad move. No one ever acknowledges that. I can deal with luck because in the end you screw over just as much as you get screwed...

Anyways, there's this site called www.sharkscope.com and you can check how well you're doing. You can check it five times a day. Let me know if anyone beats a ROI of +13% because that's what I've got and I haven't seen anyone beat it yet. Though I'm not completely sure what it means, they seem to make a big deal about ROI...

ROI is return on investment ie: how much money profit per one dollar you spend, so you are making 13% profit on every dollar you play with. It only counts for SnGs and tournaments though. Would be nice if they come up with one for the cash tables.

Right now on CD poker my ROI is 181%. Thanks to the tournament i won, but it's been dropping since then, even though i've won a couple of low-stake SnGs.

Have won a total of $159 profit on the cash tables on CD poker in around 2 weeks.

On PS my ROI was shockingly bad. I never won a tournament there or even placed. Won some SnGs but nothing special. I think my ROI was something like -38% with a $450 loss, the only thing that kept me going there was the cash tables, but I had enough of those and switched.
