Rocky III
I don't think that would have worked. It's a good thing that Queen didn't allow for its use in the film.
Rocky III
Before settling on the film's signature song of "Eye of the Tiger" by Survivor, Sylvester Stallone wanted to use the already hit song "Another One Bites the Dust" by Queen.

Kiss Kiss Bang Bang: The movie's title is a reference to an un-used theme song to the James Bond movie Thunderball (1965). "Mr. Kiss Kiss Bang Bang" was recorded by first Shirley Bassey and then Dionne Warwick after composer John Barry had chosen the title when he read a magazine article which mentioned that was how Bond was known in Italy. However, the producers got cold feet at the last moment and asked him to write a title song, "Thunderball", which was performed by Tom Jones. Both versions of "Mr. Kiss Kiss Bang Bang" were released many years later, and "Kiss Kiss Bang Bang" has since become a slang description of the James Bond-style spy genre.

Trivia For The Day (3/28/2009):
Judge Dredd
I like the movie but this is just another example of Stallone's ego and how it destroyed his career until Rocky Balboa.
And as a bonus:
The Coen Brothers? Directing a superhero movie? I'd be first in line for that!
Judge Dredd
Director Danny Cannon was so disheartened over his constant creative disputes with Sylvester Stallone that he swore he would never again work with another big-name actor. He also claimed that the final version was completely different from the script, due to the changes Stallone demanded.

And as a bonus:
The Coen brothers, Peter Hewitt and Richard Stanley all reputedly turned down the chance to direct.

One from 'From Hell':
The Hughes Brothers originally wanted Daniel Day-Lewis to play the lead role. When that fell through, they interviewed Sean Connery, Jude Law, and Brad Pitt before settling on Johnny Depp.

Trivia Of The Day (3/30/2009):
Barfly
Barfly
Cannon had restrictive bank covenants which limited the number of films it could make during periods of financial distress, which it was experiencing at the time. Because of expensive forward commitments to other stars on other films, Cannon decided to exclude "Barfly" from its production slate, because Cannon would have otherwise been forced to abandon another film in its place which had substantially greater monetary penalties to its star for non-production. The film was ultimately produced because Barbet Schroeder appeared at the Cannon offices one day with a battery powered portable saw and threatened to cut off his finger unless Cannon reconsidered its decision and agreed to make the film, stating that he (Barbet) was represented by the law firm of Black and Decker and would be forced cut off his finger to show to the world that Cannon was cutting off a piece of him by abandoning the film. Cannon (to its credit) decided that violating its banking covenants was the lesser evil compared to denying birth to what was ultimately to prove be a classic and important artistic work. Fred Roos and Francis Ford Coppola were certainly important components in ultimately shaping the business plan going forward, but the decision was irrevocably made and committed to the day that Barbet showed up in the offices with both a portable battery powered saw and the will and determination to use it exactly as he said he would if the decision to abort the film was not rescinded that morning. This true story was later fictionalized and retold in Charles Bukowski's novel "Hollywood".

Re: Fun and Random Trivia of the Day
From 'Hotel Rwanda':
"Nick Nolte's character (Col. Oliver) is modeled in part on Lt. Gen. Roméo Dallaire, the Canadian commanding officer of the UN Peacekeeping mission in that country who attempted to interfere with the Rwandan Genocide despite his superiors' indifference to the atrocity. Dallaire was also the subject of Sundance audience award documentary Shake Hands with the Devil: The Journey of Roméo Dallaire (2004), and witnessed such horrible acts in Rwanda that he later suffered severe post-traumatic stress disorder. Despite these facts, this is the only fictional character (name and facts) depicted in the film."
'Shake Hands With The Devil' was a huge bestseller here in Canada and if you can find it, I highly recommend picking it up and giving it a read.

Re: Fun and Random Trivia of the Day
Wow I have a backlog to catch up on.
Thursday 3-26-09 is from Amelie
To continue with the French theme, trivia for Friday. 3-27-09 is from The City of Lost Children.
We go from weird to psychotically deranged for the trivia for Saturday, 3-28-09. Henry; Portrait of a Serial Killer.
Brilliant reply!
Trivia for Sunday, 3-29-09 is from one of my favorites, The Night of the Hunter.
And now the movie is #159 on IMDB top movie ratings ever. Should have stuck around Chuck...

Whenever this film was shot on location, Jean-Pierre Jeunet and the crew would clean the area of debris, grime, trash and graffiti, so that the film would match his fantasy more so. This was an especially difficult task when it came time to shoot at the huge train station.
To continue with the French theme, trivia for Friday. 3-27-09 is from The City of Lost Children.
Ron Perlman doesn't speak French and was the only American on set. But he learned all of his lines, and delivered them without error.
We go from weird to psychotically deranged for the trivia for Saturday, 3-28-09. Henry; Portrait of a Serial Killer.
During the screening of the film at the 1989 Telluride Festival, nearly half the audience walked out during the family massacre scene. When the film finished, it was met with complete silence, as the audience were so stunned by what they had just seen and didn't know how to react. As director John McNaughton was leaving the theatre, he was approached by a distressed man who informed him "You can't do that." McNaughton asked him what he meant, and the man explained that you couldn't make a film about a murderer who gets away in the end, without punishment or without any kind of moral resolution, reiterating "You can't do that." McNaughton thought about this for a moment, and then said to the man, "We just did."
Brilliant reply!
Trivia for Sunday, 3-29-09 is from one of my favorites, The Night of the Hunter.
So disappointed was he by the poor reception of this film on its initial release both critically and commercially, Charles Laughton vowed never to direct a film again, and he never did. The film he was planning to direct next was going to be a screen adaptation of "The Naked and the Dead."
And now the movie is #159 on IMDB top movie ratings ever. Should have stuck around Chuck...

Trivia Of The Day (3/31/2009)
Total Recall
Nice way to get back at people. Let nature do it!
Total Recall
All of the crew fell ill due to food poisoning during production, with the exception of Arnold Schwarzenegger and Ronald Shusett. Schwarzenegger escaped because he always had his food catered from the US. This was because three years earlier, he had fallen ill due to drinking tap water in Mexico during production of Predator (1987). As for Shusett, he took extreme health precautions, such as only brushing his teeth with boiled or bottled water and insisting on getting a weekly vitamin B12 shot. Shusett was even mocked by the crew until they all got sick themselves.

Re: Fun and Random Trivia of the Day
Speaking of Arnie, here's one from 'Last Action Hero':
Charles Dance said in interviews that, after being told that he had won a part turned down by Alan Rickman because of the salary, he wore a t-shirt on set which read; "I'm Cheaper Than Alan Rickman!".
The only one on that page that I like even better is that Steven Spielberg decided not to direct 'Last Action Hero' because he wanted to direct 'Schindler's List.' Clearly he made the wrong choice.

I would wear a "I'm cheaper than Alan Rickman" t-shirt, but only if the back said "...and cheaper than Charles Dance too."

Re: Fun and Random Trivia of the Day
Trivia for Monday 3-30-09 is from Robocop.
The comic book that the robber in the convenience store grabs is Marvel Comic's "Iron Man", which is about a wealthy man who wears a hi-tech armor to fight evil.
In addition to 'Iron Man', the comic book 'ROM' is also seen in the mom-and-pop store, the storyline of which involves a hero sacrificing his human body and having his mind placed into a robot in order to save his people.

From Bloodsucking Freaks (also known as the Incredible Torture Show)
Gotta love Troma!
Troma had the film cut to gain an "R" rating, then shipped the unrated print to theaters telling them it was the R rated version. Eventually it was discovered when a woman complained the film upset her child. Eventually the MPAA sued Troma for improper use of the "R" logo.
Gotta love Troma!

Re: Fun and Random Trivia of the Day
Trivia for Tuesday, 3-31-09 is from Pi and relates to the numbers theme in the movie.
The number Max is searching for is 216 digits long. 216 is 6x6x6; 666 is the "number of the beast" according to the Book of Revelation.
Freeze-framing shows that the 216 digit number actually has 218 digits. It's: 941432434315126593210548723904868285129134748760 276719592346023858295830472501652325259296925727655364363462727 184012012643147546329450127847264841075622347896267285928582953 47502772262646456217613984829519475412398501.
The movie ends with Jenna asking for the result of the division of 748 by 238. This simplifies to the fraction 22/7, the result is 3.1428 which is a good approximation of pi often taught in primary schools. (3.1415...) by 3 digits.

In an interview to promote the film, Arnold Schwarzenegger said this was the first film where he got to wear an elaborate and modern wardrobe. He said that before this, his wardrobe budget for a film was about "10 dollars".

Re: Fun and Random Trivia of the Day
Nice finds guys. Leave it to FriendO to give us some TromaTrivia. LOL
I love that Oldsmobile. I was one of the few who cheered when it first appeared in Spider-Man. Non movie geeks looked at my friends and I weird.
"why are those guys cheering for a car?"
Trivia for Aprils Fools is from Mad Max. Since Mel Gibson is a notorious prankster, I thought one of his films would be appropriate.

The "get-out-of-jail-free card" that Goose gives the triker was an on-set joke. Because of the limited budget, the biker gang was an actual biker gang (the Vigilantes), and they had to ride to the set each day in-costume; often with their prop weapons displayed. Since the production company expected them to be pulled over by the local police, each was given a letter explaining the film's peculiar requirements, and asking for law-enforcement's understanding & cooperation.
Re: Fun and Random Trivia of the Day
Short couple of trivia bits of the day for 4-2-09. Silence of the Lambs (all are related to awards)
Anthony Hopkins's performance was the shortest ever to win a leading acting Oscar.
The first film to win the Best Picture Oscar that was widely available on home video at the time of the ceremony.
One of only three films (the others being It Happened One Night (1934) and One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest (1975)) to win the top five Oscars - Best Actor, Best Actress, Best Director, Best Picture and Best Screenplay (Adapted).
Re: Fun and Random Trivia of the Day
Two today from 'The Apartment' (1960):
"This is the first Best Picture Oscar winner to specifically refer to a previous winner, in this case Grand Hotel (1932), which Baxter attempts to watch on television but is too long delayed because of commercials. Bud's boss also refers to Bud and Fran having "a lost weekend" together in Bud's apartment, a reference to Billy Wilder's earlier Oscar winner, The Lost Weekend (1945)."
"This was the last B&W movie to win Best Picture at The Academy Awards until Schindler's List (1993)."

Good thing that was the case.

Arnold Schwarzenegger, Danny DeVito and Hulk Hogan have all revealed in interviews that Schwarzenegger and DeVito were given the option of doing this movie or Suburban Commando (1991); had the two chosen Suburban Commando, Hogan and Christopher Lloyd would have done this movie.

The bad guy who Ivan Danko shoots on the steps in Moscow was played by one of Hungary's leading action-movie actors. "Man, look at me, I am a pussy."
Plus Sven Ole Thorsen was in Red Heat also and he is even bigger.
