Thanks Roode, no awards shows complete without the suspiciously tipsy presenter. Bravo to Marisa Tomei

Wouldn't have been my first choice, but can't go wrong. I think we should give a special award to her tits: Best supporting tits to the best supporting actress.

Apparently the devil made her hit Mrs. Gyllenhaal with the chair. But Mrs. Gyllenhaal is okay according to the Forumotion Medical Center.

So we hit the half way point and Undeadmonkey is nowhere to be seen. So Geezer would you mind presenting your Featurette for the wrestler now.

The Wrestler. I think the film can be summed up best using two words: Mickey Rourke. Talk about your all time comebacks. Have we ever seen one better than Rourke's portrayal of Randy "the Ram" Robinson? I certainly can not think of any. His portrayal of a beaten down professional wrestler whose fame ran out long ago but can't seem to let go was masterful in itself, but I'm here to talk about the film.

From the very beginning, I found myself pulling for the Ram, the very definition of a "loveable loser." You cheer for this man to succeed throughout the film, as he continues to destroy his body, his relationships, and eventually his life. This is a film that is going to hit you hard, like a Randy the Ram body slam. I'm not one that usually gets emotional when it comes to a film. This one had me in tears.

With a supporting cast of Best Supporting actress winner Marrissa Tomei and Breakthrough Performance nominee Evan Rachel Wood, the cast has to be counted amongst the best of the year. The acting, as our good friend IPKI$$ said earlier, is what draws you in and makes you forget that you are watching people, and immerse yourself into the story. I didn't see a better example of this all year.

Darren Aronofski is not known for shooting gritty realistic films. That does not however mean that he can't accomplish it. Throwing away his stylized tendencies of the past he delivers a film that is raw and gritty, just the way professional wrestling should be portrayed. Vince McMahon may not have enjoyed the film (probably because it shows wrestling in all of its horrifying reality) but the public has shown that they disagree with him.

The most moving film I have seen in several years, the single greatest acting performance I have ever seen, A film that cracks my top 20 after just one viewing. For your consideration, Ladies and Gentlemen I give you The Wrestler.

Now Numbersix99 couldn't be here with us but he did have this to write.

numbersix_99 wrote:Oxford defines "best" as of the highest quality, excellence, or standing. The nominees for Best Screenplay are...

Slumdog Millionaire – Simon Beaufoy
The Dark Knight – Jonathan Nolan and Christopher Nolan
WALL•E– Andrew Stanton and Jim Reardon
In Bruges – Martin McDonagh
The Curious Case of Benjamin Button – Eric Roth

And the winner is.... a fellow countryman of mine, gaining a great reputation on stage for his dark yet witty plays and scripts. So it gives me great pelasure to announce that the award rightfully goes to Martin McDonagh for In Bruges. The Guinness is on me, boys.

My school just recently closed a play written by Mr. McDonough, The Lieutenant of Inishmore. It's quite a piece of work. In a good way. So, all in all, I have warmed up to In Bruge a bit.

Since Undeadmonkey is not here I will do the The Curious Case of Benjamin Button Featurette. He did have this to say
undeadmonkey wrote:Based on a short story by F. Scott Fitzgerald, "The Curious Case of Benjamin Button" tells the story of an old boy who grows up to be a young man and eventually into a baby. Through it he learns lessons in life, love and death and everything in between in a way nobody has experienced before.

For your consideration.

I watched 'The Lieutenant of Inishmore' performed when I was living in the UK. Brilliant. I'd love to see it filmed, and if McDonagh keeps on the same career trajectory, I think it could happen!

The world of cinema would not be the world of cinema without the films that are made internationally. Though it can be often hard to get the chance to see these films, it is often rewarding to see them anyway. And rewarded, these films did for us, the people at the Fantaverse. A sequel to a highly-acclaimed gang film, the comeback for a once great action star, a vampire film, the legend of one of the most notorious rulers in history and an animated documentary about war.

The nominees are...

City Of Men, from Brazil

JCVD, a co-production of Belgium, Luxembourg and France

Let The Right One In, from Sweden

Mongol, a co-production of Kazakhstan, Russia, Mongolia and Germany

Waltz With Bashir, a co-proudction of Israel, Germany, France and the United States

And the winner is...

I'm so happy Let The Right One In comes out on DVD in March. I'll finally be able to see it before that Cloverfield director ruins it.
