Ok guys.. i've started with the new sub-forums..

Most important part is to get the league threads into the correct areas. Mods, please move any legaue that is done into the archived part, and any league that is still going (like the draft leagues that are in 'more games') into their correct areas..

Also, for the Movies and Tv Shows section, please move the thread with the movie ratings.

I'm now going to make a sub-forum for music and a sub-forum for sports..

I need all the help i can get.

Also, any suggestions about the forums color scheme? Or the forums logo?

Anything at all? I need to know this stuff now.

There's a whole thread devoted to spots? Like that little dog Spot?

i might be in the minority here, but i prefer less "sub"-forums.. ideally, i'd have one forum for the game. and another for everything else.. let the conversations flow naturally.. once things get over-categorized, the natural back-and-forth gets stifled.. people get hung up on where things "should" be posted--and threads that would normally evolve through the process of organic conversation get killed for being "off topic"..

it's also less fun to have to click through a million subforums just to find the three new messages that have been posted since your last visit

furthermore, the only reason some forums go through the hassle of creating subforums and dictating where people should post what is because they've grown too big for their "free for all" board.. and, that's understandable.. if we had 500 regular posters, this place would be a fuckin zoo...

but let's keep in mind that we only have about 20 regulars, and some of them are worrying that this place is dying as it is.. personally, i think one answer is to be consolidating the subforums--not expanding them

Problem is with only the same bunch of us here, the forum has been slowing down. If we ever wanna attract new members who aren't only here for the game, we need to do this. You never know, we might get lucky and someone gets interested.

Also, if you wana see the most recent posts, all you have to do is go to the portal and it has a scrolling list of the last posts made. You can also subscribe to threads if you are really interested in them, and you get emails when there are new posts.. etc etc..

if i were strolling along the internet with a potential interest in perusing a new forum, i'd be more interested in the board with fluid open-ended discussions rather than the one where i'm directed exactly what to contribute and where to put it..

let's make it clear that the forum exists for the Fantasy Movie game we play--and the side-discussion will naturally lend itself to topics concerning movies and entertainment.. and when the conversation naturally moves on to other topics, great! that's when it becomes interesting, and real dialogues open up..

micro-management is the #1 reason why 88% of new BBS's fail...

(though keep in mind that 74% of the statistics i use are made up)

I like the way the game forums are set up now.... much better... but I agree with Nspan, we dont really need extra TV, Sport and Movie sub forums

Things might have been a little slow around here, but I bet its because of spring break and midterms and such... i know that is why i havent been on much lately

I do find it quite amazing that we are still drawing new people. Usually those that I've never heard of. Probably not just stragglers from FM either. They were either recruited, or found us by themselves. They may not be regular contributors (yet) but its a plus. Who knows how the new sub forums will work out, but I'm kinda with NSpan, for the reasons he pointed out.

the movie/tv forum were done so that some people might join this forum with the intention of talking about movies, and then get hooked on the game. It really is the only way to do it cause no one who didn't already know about it is going to show up out of nowhere.

Having said that, it's time we do a recruitment drive.. who wants to spam IMDB and take one for the team? Twisted Evil

Sorry I haven't been much help recently, this work redundancy thing is dragging on and I can't appear to look like I have nothing to do. As soon as I get the chance I'll contribute my admin powers a little more, but at the moment I'm lucky to get on here for more than half an hour per day. Great job though Barca, the forum has really improved over the last few days. And nice to see we have passed the 100 registered players mark too!!

Something's wrong again. Everytime I log in, I get like twenty popups. I've tried blocking them, increasing the security, nothing works.

That is very weird.. I've never had a pop-up. I don't know, maybe this is an IP thing..

Nothing ever messes up on mine either, no pop-ups I mean. I have a couple of things I'd like to bring up, though, just requests, not demands.

1. The chat does a "Session TIme Out" when you idle on it for a while. If this can be deleted until we get 1000 members, that would be great because it makes it hard to both chat and browse/post on the site.

2. I still want sub-forums for all of the hardcore fantasites that want them, if possible. Our own little personal pieces of the site. If people have sites/blogs, they can trasfer (cut/paste) them there as well. Can't bring anything but more posts, right?

3. Since my streak game is pretty much killed, I'm going to put up a new game that's month to month where you predict various things for the month and try to win the month and the year. They'll include the PTA and T5 winners of each week, top IMDB rating performer of the week's new releases, Top #1 of the month, Lowest #1 of the month, "Bang for Your Buck" OW (OW/FM Price), and X vs. Y matchups.

4. I'm going to finish my "Actor Madness" finally, soon here.

5. Shouldn't "More Games" be for all games not FM related? Shouldn't all the "regular leagues," etc. be in "Archived"/"Currently in Play"?

ok..

1. if you actually open it in a new window (the chat - just click on chatbox down the bottom) then you can chat in a different window will still surfing the site. The 'time out' though is just built in. I can't do much about it.

2. as far as i know only Shryke and geez have sites? Shrykes reviews will be linked to in the Movies forum, and he has a banner on the portal page too.. geez is more than welcome to post here if he wants to. I can't set up separate sub-forums for everyone though.

3and4.. ok nothing to do with me..

5. there were too many to move and i got lazy.. the latest ones are in the currently in play.. the rest will be moved when i have more time.. or if my lovely mods decide to do them.

Also.. note to Shryke.. when you update the leagues can you please do them in the SAME thread and just update the thread title.. its much easier to keep track of them that way.

Responding to W:
1. I actually like the session time out, it will let people know i'm not just ignoring them, i actually left to surf the site.
2. No need for more sub forums- just post whatever you want in your slates section. Its your own space for your own stuff.

3. Sounds good.

4. Yeah, I've been keeping it going as much as possible, but it takes a while to actually switch over all the matchups. Its not as far behind as it could be, but i'm glad to have you taking over the reigns again.

5. Well I guess Barca answered that one.

Good call. There are already 'how to play' posts thanks to SS, but if you can encompass them all into one post and put them in the new members board that would be great.. i would do it but im going to make arrangements for a 'movie club' sub-forum right now.
