Who is your favorite U.S. President?
Favorite Historical U.S. President?
It's almost Inauguration Day, and I thought it'd be a peachy time to find out what people's preferences were. Out of respect for contemporary politics, and sensitivity to the topic generally, I've omitted from the Poll the names of ANY (U.S.) President who's occupied the office in the last thirty years (Gerald R. Ford, Jimmy Carter, Ronald Reagan, George H.W. Bush, Bill Clinton, and George W. Bush), and suggested eight historically significant Presidents, and included a couple of other options as well. If I happened to MISS your fave, go ahead and make your case in the space below, if you happen to feel that William Henry Harrison or Millard Fillmore or James Garfield or Chester A. Arthur or Warren Harding or Calvin Coolidge or somebody was woefully unrepresented. The complete list of U.S. Presidents is below.
Enjoy!
1 George Washington
2 John Adams
3 Thomas Jefferson
4 James Madison
5 James Monroe
6 John Quincy Adams
7 Andrew Jackson

George Washington. Some say, 'meh, he's overated'. I bet he was a great person though, come on, he was asked to be King of the United States and declined. He was president for two terms, i think, and they asked him to continue, and he declined again. He fought in the war, hmm its late, cant think of much else right now.
IS there a grood movie about George Washington? If there is, show me to it, because I havent heard of any.

Hm, as far as actual FILMS go, let me think about that. Oddly enough, it's not a terribly popular subject. John Adams (miniseries, HBO), with David Morse portraying our first Commanding General and President, did a pretty decent job of capturing his aloofness, his dignity and his seriousness, but completely missed certain other traits (namely, his prowess as a soldier, his vanity and his zeal to improve his own social and political standing).
I've been hearing for awhile, now, that Tom Hanks was interested in producing an HBO miniseries to star Daniel Day-Lewis as the complex and often contradictory father of the nation, a quite perfect casting decision in my book, but nothing ever seems to materialize, quite.
As far as films focusing specifically on Washington, erm, no, actually, I can't think of any. There were a couple of very good TV-movies, notably The Crossing, but as far as big-screen representations go, well, all I can say is, at least in this case we're not being taxed for it.
There will be revolution

Re: Favorite Historical U.S. President?
A tie between Roosevelt (Franklin) and Kennedy. Roosevelt was popular, a great leader and one who overcame obstacles to serve four terms as President. Kennedy was also popular and a great leader as well as one who changed the face of American politics but was killed before he could really set out to do what he wanted to do. Have he not been killed, the world today would be much different.
Damn you, Lee Harvey Oswald (or whoever the hell killed JFK)!

It was a conspiracy of the fashion industry carried out by brainwashed, over-the-hill male models on the grassy knoll.

I give my vote to William Henry Harrison.
The real question is why do I say that?
I bet some of you know...

Clinton. I refuse to vote for anyone who wasn't around in my lifetime, or that I can't remember, and he was better than Bush.

...Well, SURE, of COURSE he did the least damage: The stupid son of a bitch was still trying to act like a frontier solider at the age of seventy, and insisted on taking the Oath of Office and delivering a two-hour Inaugual Address in the middle of a nor'easter without a friggin' coat on. The dumb bastard died exactly one month later, of pneumonia and septicemia and pleuresy, not to mention abject friggin' ignorance. If only EVERY President put his country first in such a selfless, not to mention efficient, fashion, sparing the nation the terrible wages of their stupidity by simply self-destructing in a glorious celebration of same.I give my vote to William Henry Harrison.

Too tough between Washington, Lincoln, FDR, and JFK.

My non-counting Canadian vote was for FDR. A brilliant strategist and I respect that. I imagine we'd be in good hands today if he was in charge given the way that the Global economy looks.
