But you still hate to see tragedy strike anyone like this:
John Travolta's Son Dies
Posted Jan 2nd 2009 3:10PM by TMZ Staff
Rand Memorial Hospital in the Bahamas tells TMZ the son of John Travolta died today.
We're told 16-year-old Jett was vacationing with Travolta and wife Kelly Preston.
There have been reports that Jett was autistic, though Travolta has denied it, saying he suffers from Kawasaki Syndrome, a condition which often leads to heart disease.
UPDATE 4:54 PM ET -- A police spokeswoman says Jett hit his head in a bathtub.
UPDATE: 4:40 PM ET -- Restview Memorial Mortuary and Crematorium in the Bahamas tells TMZ Jett's body would be transferred to Restview on Monday.
UPDATE: 4:00 PM ET -- Travolta's attorney Michael Ossi says Jett suffered a seizure at his family's vacation home at the Old Bahama Bay Hotel on Grand Bahama Island. Attempts to revive him were unsuccessful and he died on scene.

I remembered hearing about his condition but I always thought that he would get to live a normal life despite it.
Sixteen is just too young to die.

Re: He may not be our favorite actor
John Travolta and Kelly Preston are, without question -- now that Isaac Hayes has been beamed out of his meat body and into the thetan Resurrection Ship in polar orbit around Venus -- my very favorite Scifitologypsies, and on occasion over the years I've been hugely impressed by their family's odyssey... Most particularly by their devotion to Jett and Ms. Preston's advocacy on behalf of and commitment to the cause of environmental allergies and "allergy-proofing" homes and workplaces. I've always thought it an especially cruel twist of fate that Travolta, who many members of my generation remember fondly (not to mention, firstly) for his portrayal of a teenager with an immunological disorder in the Aaron Spelling TV-movie The Boy in the Plastic Bubble, should himself father a child with Kawasaki Syndrome.
My heart breaks for this family. If anyone ever doubted that fame and fortune provided no guarantee that the hardships of this world would not touch those who enjoy them, that the wealthy and well-to-do don't face exactly the same struggles, setbacks and sorrows the rest of us confront each and every day, well, here is the proof to the contrary. My wife and I suffered a miscarriage last year; I can only imagine how awful it must be to lose a child who's near full-grown, who was nearing an age when he could strike out on his own and make his own destiny in this life.
Already there's rampant speculation about the circumstances of Jett's death, how his possible ailments and his parent's beliefs may have impacted his life and, even, hastened his death. I want nothing to do with any of it. A family has borne a terrible misfortune, and will never recover fully, and the rest is just speculation and gossip (and will probably always remain thus). I offer my prayers and good wishes to John, Kelly and their surviving child, Ella, and hope that they may find peace and happiness in time.
God bless you.
