Ryan Reynolds to Play Green Lantern in New Film

With his romantic comedy "The Proposal" currently in theaters, and a new indie project in the works, Ryan Reynolds has just landed another exciting movie role -- read on for more details.

Reynolds has been chosen to play the title role in "Green Lantern," the live-action film based on the DC Comics character, Variety reports.

The 32-year-old star was in the running for the coveted role along with Bradley Cooper and Jared Leto, the trade paper says.

Production is expected to begin in January.

Just read that. I was hoping they would go with Rayner's GL but he is playing Hal Jordan. Will be cool anyway they do it as long as the effects look cool.

I think Ryan is a little too old to play the Rayner version. I hope they leave out all of the 90's stuff where Jordan lost his mind and went insane becomming Parrallax

I was hoping to see Bradley Cooper get this role, really would've propelled him to the A-list. But RR ain't nothing to sneeze at, although I'd hoped he would put the Deadpool movie before all others.

I am so hoping they do not try to make him funny like with Deadpool. That would be rather disasterous.

I think Ryan Reynolds makes sure that it is a contractual obligation that he gets to sling one-liners though Buscemi.

It sucks that the Chris Pine rumors weren't true. I really wanted to see what he could do after the success of Star Trek.

My brother hopes that the movie is exactly that story. Perhaps they could do a trilogy of an introduction to the character, parrallax as part two and synestro wars as part 3.

I think that if a trilogy is made, then use the multiple incarnations of Green Lantern. And include Jade in one of the sequels.

Synestro definitely has to be the villian in the first movie. You have to have a bad guy with a power ring as well. I really hope they don't do the Parallax storyline as I hated what they did to Hal Jordan because he is the Green Lantern that I grew up with

I did read that the screenplay does have the Corps in there so we will see cameo's of Rayner, Gardner, etc.

I hope the Guardians are real midgets and not CGI. LOL

They're only doing this because the deadpool movie, if it ever gets made will bomb...Here's hoping Ryan Reynolds isn't the next Halle Berry.
