I've rated 12 films so far with three and a half stars or higher. The most that I have probably rated high in a year would be 19.

True but maybe its just me i dont have much faith in the next 4 months there a few films that intrigue me but i dont think anything will skyrocket to the top of my list. Hopefully i'm wrong and there is some great films about to be released that will surprise me

Yet I notice you haven't watched Up or Drag Me To Hell yet.

And I have a feeling I may find another 5 or 6 movies break my top ten of the year in the coming months. With Where The Wild Things Are, Moon, Ponyo, Avatar, Sherlock Holmes, The Lovely Bones and possibly A Serious Man and (500) Days Of Summer all looking promising.

Yeah, I'm sure Up will make at the very least a 9. Not sure about Drag Me, though. It looks good, but I won't know if its 7 good or 10 good until I actually sit down and watch it.

If you are a fan of the Evil Dead trilogy (or just that style of horror, even) I'm sure it will hit the top end. It more than matched what I hoped it would be.

Agreed. I loved every minute of it. Even my brother who scoffed at the trailer (cause he is a dick) liked it alot. It was a real crowd favorite. Pretty much the best you could hope for with a comedy/horror.

A good friend of mine is a HUGE Evil Dead fan and he didn't like Drag Me to Hell. He said is was almost Raimi but watered down to be PG-13.

i respectfully disagree with your buddy.

yes, it's PG13... but when compared to previous Evil Dead installments, i don't think it's "watered down" at all.. if anything, the rating system itself has become much more lax in the last couple decades.. if i'm not mistaken, Evil Dead 2 was originally rated X...

Granted, he does seem to have an inherent hatred of PG 13 horror movies.

To his detriment he also didn't think Quarantine was that impressive.

I am hoping to watch Drag Me to Hell soon now that I have been reminded of its existance.

Honestly, I think Drag Me To Hell works even with the PG-13 rating. It is a film driven more on its script and its scares rather than gore.

Drag Me To Hell scared the shit out of me, and I loved it, but not because of the gore. You can have 100 Saw's and Hostel's which throw the gore at you, but just because its Rated R doesn't make it scary, and certainly doesn't make it good.

The scares in Drag Me To Hell were exactly the type of scares you got in the Evil Dead trilogy, that creeping tension followed by the most over the top scares. It's one of the most fun horror movies in years, and honestly who goes to see a horror movie which isn't fun?

Anyway, I also agree that the rating system does seem to have dropped its standards lately, as I'm sure a movie like Drag Me To Hell would have been rated R only a decade ago, but more and more movies are getting away with the rating probably for profit sake. Shame it didn't help Drag Me To Hell. Also, if you like that kind of horror, but maybe do want a little more gore then maybe you should try and check out Dead Snow, a norwegian Nazi Zombie movie. Absolutely hilarious, and with some very over the top gory cliches which are ramped up to the max.
