I think it would be worse parenting to take a 4 year old to see it than an infant. Infants won't be able to retain anything they see... give them a few years and they could be scarred for life.

Yeah, true. But I'm assuming a loud, jump-scarey movie like H2 could damage their eardrums or something like that. Not to mention they'd probably be crying through the whole thing due to the loud noises.

I just hate people who bring their kids to the movies, much less totally inappropriate ones.

My mother and sister went to a showing of The Ugly Truth while I saw Ponyo. At their showing, my mother had a toddler kicking her seat the entire time. After she told me this story, we wondered why the kid's parents came to the conclusion of seeing The Ugly Truth over something like Harry Potter, G-Force or yes, Ponyo.

I think I lot of people didn't realize Ugly Truth was rated R -- the ads and even the trailers played up the romance a lot more than the sleaze. I had a couple people at work be shocked at the R in the corner of the marquee, even. That might be why parents decided to take their little one; they thought it was tamer.

The trailers made it look like Dane Cook's R-rated comedy vehicles rather than anything rated PG-13.

I guess the point of what I'm saying is that many people are idiots. I swear, some people can't even read movie titles -- I got all of these at the ticket counter yesterday:

"Arrogant Bastards"
"In-queer-ious Bastards"
"Ingrateful Bastards"
"Final Designation"
"G.I. Jew"
"Section 9"

On the subject, while in the US I had to deal with a crying baby during Drag Me To Hell (which was kinda funny after the ad at the beginning of the movie of a crying baby). I can't understand people bringing their babies to movies. If you can't get someone to babysit, don't go until you can. It's not that difficult to wait a couple of days!!

I had this too during Up. I stopped stood up, and following Donte's heroic stance last year, told the kid's mother to move her kid or suffer my wrath. She willfully obliged. I was very proud of myself.

I thought the same exact thing, but decided not to say anything...

I was watching The Hangover and there was a family that went to see it. A mom, dad, and a 4, 6, and 8 year old.

My suggestion to these parents: if you really want to see a graphic R-rated movie with your small children, go to the early matinee show so you don't bother anyone. Or go to a show being done under a "Movies For Moms" program. (The art theatre around here actually did one of these shows back in the spring. The movie shown: Sunshine Cleaning.)

Wow, the 4 year old had no clue, the 6 year old was confused and the 8 year old will be wondering why the nice bearded man can't go to Chucky Cheese's. Smile

I had a couple cases with small children today at the movies that I saw:

-I saw a father and uncle take a four-year old to Capitalism: A Love Story. Why? I don't know. However, the kid wasn't bothering anyone.

-Then, I saw a group take a baby to Zombieland. Though the baby cried in a few places, it was nothing really bad.

Also, I saw a baby mouse running around at Zombieland. I moved twice so I wouldn't have to see the mouse. I imagine that they've now got this little guy on the lookout.

For some reason, I've seen a ton of little kids being taken to see Jennifer's Body by their parents lately. Like 5 year olds....

Very weird.

Sounds like teen parents or weekend dads doing that.

I saw an eight year old seeing Inglourious Basterds a while back with her dad (my mother figured that the dad was divorced when I mentioned it). Surprisingly enough, the kid seemed to enjoy the movie.
